DRAIN ALL

Drain-All has been one of my more challenging work environments. If you truly like a dynamic workplace then Drain All may be for you. A day at Drain-All may consist of a 4am start that may carry through to the next evening. You could be dragging a myriad of hose all different dimension and weights through many levels of buildings tying back to the vac truck you have been authorized  to use. You may be up to your waist in industrial waste or standing for 10-12 hrs watching over other workers monitoring their safety as confined space watch attendant and/or rescue nothing is ever for certain. In the same way, the work schedule is never for certain likewise today you may be scheduled for a full days work to only be met the following day with no work or half a day's work (this is just the nature of the industry I'm told "it is what it is". Note: All work is arranged the evening prior by calling after hours dispatch leaving very little room for preparations such as out of town/city locations which may require you to stay overnight or more. Management is more difficult to relate. I believe management is trying its best to be fair to each worker. It has developed an Annual review to critique the performance of each individual pronouncing their strengths and discernable area of improvement.the annual review is verbal and written and remains as a part of your permanent evaluation. The results of such reviews determine advancement and income increases. There is room for improvement which a competent General Manager has displayed an open door policy approach to subordinates and opportunities to improve on day to day operation. All in All, this has been an enjoyable work experience for me from the guidance of the assistant manager (one of the hardest working men I have ever met) to the co- workers hardworking and second to none. There is so much more that could be said but I will leave the rest to those interested in gaining experience from Drain All themselves.

In my experience at Drain-All, the workplace politics were difficult to navigate.  On my first day, the person that trained me said that he/she strongly disliked the job, for reasons largely involving the politics and health and safety issues.

On face value everyone seemed to get along well, so do try to be friendly and meet many people when you can, such as at break. Also be very respectful to your supervisor, and anyone appointed in their place.  It would be appreciated by management if you can make improvements, but try not to overly step on toes of others also trying to advance. Unfortunately, it is not an environment where new team members are appreciated.  The same people that are now valued long time employees, has told me they had a very difficult first few years.  

Everyone that has been there any length on time, has been very busy justifying their own jobs. You must continually work to justify your own job, such as on your time sheet and make it compelling.

This main problem at Drain-All is Health and Safety, so first try hard to to get injured if at all possible. Management has tried very hard to not let anyone stay home for a full day after being injured. This keeps their workman's comp rates low, at your expense. Do yourself a favour, and get a doctors note to stay home a FULL day in you are injured.  

If you can survive long enough, the more senior employees are very valued; but good luck lasting that long.

Just going to list some things off here ...
-Management will tell you what you want to hear to make you happy but rarely ever follows through. 
-When your on call don't bother making plans with your family because you will have to cancel. 
-14 plus hour work days are a common thing at drainall so if you like hours I guess its a good thing.
-not many people appreciate hard work you do so don't be surprised. 
-new guys will have a hard time, unfortunately that's just a given here.
-don't think you have a "job" I've seen people get fired just because a manager doesnt like said person.
- respect your superior I don't need to say that twice.
- watch what you say to who, I've known some guys that were " two faced " 
- unless your an DZ or AZ driver ( that is good ) don't expect anything over 20 an hour.
- your job title doesnt mean anything, you are what they say you are that day 
- I could go on about bad things but I feel I'm bashing my company to much.

The good things 
- if you stay long enough you will become valuable to them
- co workers are great, some i would consider brothers 

All in all the co workers are the best part of this company.

Very strong and stable company family owned and operated . Good equipment, good salary . Great people! 

Management cares and listen, nice part about Drain-All versus other companies, is you have direct line communication right from the owner down to management.

Day's can be long, but what company in this industry doesn't have long days. Management will work with you and provide time off when requested whether planned ahead or on short notice.

Definently room to grow and learn with this company, there is such a variety of work, no day is the same which makes it fun rather then doing the same old thing day in and day out!

When I was hired, I was not mislead to what the job entailed and explained the different types of work environments...I actually recieved training (compared to other companies) and wasn't put in a situation of being an operator until comfortable.

Although the salary was not very high, there were opportunities for out-of-town work that involved 12-hour shifts. I learned a lot while working there, including new skills like hydrovac excavation, blasting, and becoming more handy with tools. Most of my co-workers were willing to help each other on job sites. The most enjoyable part of working at Drain-All for me was getting paid weekly, which helped me manage my finances, and the experience of working with tools and improvising solutions. The hardest part was the long, week-long 12-hour shifts; by Friday, I often felt exhausted. Overall, it was the best job I had, despite the managers not being great and the physical demands of the work. If you show up everyday and are not afraid to work they will keep u on the schedule however if you are the opposite they will make u work less. 

I would not recommend working at this company or for any of the individuals that are in management most of the managers aren't plumbers have never been plumbers And try to direct you as if they were and when you don't agree with them you're dragged into the office and scorned and written up for arguing with them about the process that they're trying to get you to.
implement even though you know what's wrong because you have a license and you have a diploma. They charge plumbers rates when most of the guys are pool repair guys and janitors that I've run a snake machine one time or 2 in their lifetime you won't be working with plumbers or anybody in your trade the place is filled with hacks.

Lots of money to be made because you will be expected to work ALL the time.

Dirty, hard, menial work.  Dispatched each evening so you never know when, where or if you are working from one day to the next.

Terrible management, little to no training, forced overtime, unpaid on call weekends and no regard for family or life outside of work.

Good benefit package although most people don't last long enough to qualify.

AZ drivers beware.  This is not a driving job.  You will spend more time on the end of a hose than you do in a Tractor.  (no matter what they tell you)

Good for short term money making employment but nothing more.

If you don't want a personal life and enjoy being bullied into doing what your employer wants this is the place for you... you never know if you are working one day to the next, sometimes required to work 14 plus hrs a day. No room for advancement in this company also. Good guys to work with but management will tell you what you want to hear to keep you working. When you're on call they act like they own you and if you don't do as your told they will "hit you where it hurts, in your wallet"... overall not a healthy place to work.

Incompetent management, broken equipment, dead end job, they will offer more training and responsibilities with no added compensation 
No paid sick days

When I worked there, a girl was in an accident and lost her eyes. It was 100% on management, always pushing more work, not providing the right safety gear, not having the right processes. Before and after, management was disengaged. No addressing what happened, just silence. It's a joke this place is still running.
