A typical day is monitoring children in 3 classrooms for about 2 hrs a day..during 2 different lunch breaks, keeping the lunch room, clean n safe.Also taking the children outdoors for some physical activities after eating lunch, and cleaning the lunch area.Its a very nice rewarding job, to see the kids happy, and appreciate you for looking after them, helping them with there lunch, and cleaning up after them.I enjoy my job, love people, and like to clean.

Friday is the most topical day

EAs are overworked and underpaid. They call in sick and jobs go infilled making it unsafe for the children they support (and the staff too). It’s no longer a job about education but a job about managing behaviours and keeping other kids safe. 

I was an on call library technician for the dsbn to get some experience as a librarian. Staff at the schools were nice and the regular librarians were helpful. The kids were also well behaved and respectful of librarians.

If you’re applying for an educational assistant positions - RUN,  do not walk. Literally the worst job I have ever had. The work culture is incredibly toxic. Supply EAs do the same job as contract EAs but have no benefits or increase of pay. The behaviours that you’ll deal with is NOT worth it. 

Love working here, My day consisted of making lesson plans for my students, teaching and modifying their work. 
I was a one on one assistant in and out of the class room. Performed extra duties as needed.

I had the privilege of working for the DSBN for a very short time on a contract assignment.  I found all staff very supportive, approachable and helpful in a very busy work environment.

Great place to work with wonderful benefits.  I am appreciative of the great work environment and challenging and interesting school situations. My career was very rewarding.

Not about the kids, only the weak minded and “yes” people move up. Loved most of my colleagues that were in it for the right reasons. Pretty relaxing environment for the most part though


can sometimes be challanging given help/support not always being accessable when needed 

mostly all staff is felaxble and supportive of ideas/stratigies
