I want to sincerely thank you and the entire team at Darling Ingredients for the opportunity to work with the company over the past few weeks. It has been a valuable experience, and I was truly looking forward to contributing meaningfully to the team’s success in the long term.

However, I must express my disappointment and concern regarding the decision made about my employment in such a short period — less than a month. I was informed that I did not demonstrate the performance required to ensure a successful long-term employment relationship. I believe it is too early to make such a conclusive and judgmental assessment, especially without any formal feedback or indication of specific issues related to my performance.

This decision feels particularly unfair to me at this point in my life, as my wife just gave birth to our child a week ago. Despite the lack of sleep and the challenges that come with a newborn, I have shown up to work early each day, carried out my duties with diligence, enthusiasm, and full commitment. I believe I have made a genuine effort to meet expectations and integrate into the team.

I would have appreciated clearer feedback or an opportunity to improve if there were areas of concern. Being let go without a transparent explanation leaves me feeling disheartened and undervalued.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity, and I hope you will take this message into consideration for future decisions regarding new employees.



From what I understand, this USED TO BE a very family oriented and inclusive workplace... not sure what happened. Management takes no responsibility for anything. Very quick to blame workers. Lots of politics. HR is not there to help you AT ALL, just used as a pawn by management to do their dirty work. Management work is dirtier than plant work... and it's a rendering plant! Pay is good, but not good enough for the work load they expect of you. Expect you to stay longer, at a moments notice. Irregular schedule makes balancing work-life extremely difficult. Turn over in most departments across the plant is high. All departments are short staffed (they know this and do nothing about it). Most supervisors have NO IDEA how anything works. You can't go to them for actual help, because they genuinely have no clue what is happening. Preach safety, but would rather you get the job done quickly and quietly. Until something happens, then they throw the book at you and blame you for not following the rules. SOPs are out of date. Policies/rules seem to be different for everyone (depending on who you are and whether or not they "like" you).

Advice to anyone with a good conscience, morale code and any self-dignity, who is looking for work: KEEP LOOKING! You deserve so much better than this toxic environment!

Ok, here we go... first off, the interview you get is with multiple management that really have no interviewing skills, once hired you’re made out to believe that it’s the end all be all of jobs until you make one little mistake, and the management never lets you forget it either! Drivers get the minimalist of training for the route they are training for, weekly schedule always changes due to incompetent supervisor, verbal abuse as well as the general manager bad mouthing you to other supervisors while at the same time there is a company wide anti-bullying and verbal abuse agreement within the company ( yes, you are forced to sign a form on this as well as many others) long hours and forced over time, management DOES not care about your personal life and expects you to give up all free time to work. The smells from the plant are ridiculous and gets into your skin for days! 
Equipment isn’t too bad but all the trailers used are not DOT compliant. There is an extremely high turn over rate and after a while it makes sense when you hear of someone quitting. I would highly not recommend gaining employment there.

Typical day you start of with a drivers meeting, which plans the routes for the day for each driver. You learn how to load deadstock and drive to various plants across southwestern Ontario to deliver your load. Management is backstabbing and will throw you under the bus, this company DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR DRIVERS. If you get into an accident and are not at fault you are fired without an explanation! This job is a gamble you will make tons of money, but at the cost of driving down poorly managed roads, and if you go into a ditch you are fired. Do not go into this job with a positive attitude, other drivers will hate you just for being happy to work here. They preach driver retention, but it is the complete opposite when an accident happens. I understand if you are at fault, but accidents happen and when you are not at fault any GOOD company will stand behind you, Rothsay does not. If you do not believe me look at their overall reviews, I wish I had of done that before switching from a stable job to this joke.

Rothsay is awful. Plain and simple. The pay is average at best. The work/loads are the most disgusting thing you have ever seen or smelled in your life. When you get hired as a driver, you will be stuck in the yard dumping trailers full of blood and guts/ dead animals for months if not years. You will not start out actually driving a truck. The pay here is what everyone talks about. But there's other companies in the area paying the same if not more. Management at rothsay is terrible. They set you up to fail constantly when you first start and knit pick every little thing with regards to driving. The "union mentality" aka laziness and negativity run strong here. "Union brothers" will constantly try to stab you in the back and rat you out whether you did something or not. The workplace culture here is as bad as it gets. Do yourself a favor and just work somewhere else. I promise you will hate it here in a matter of months. 

Rothsay recycling is a large company, i was employed there for 6 months on a contract first off would like to say thats a brutal and ridiculous length to be on contract when your disposable at any point in time. rothsay will over work you and the dispatchers and mangement team treat you with no respect. the dispatching crew was the most unorganized group i had ever worked with. always under staffed because they treat the employees poorly. i was told by the mangement staff i would be hired on full-time and had nothing to worry about and 2 weeks later they handed me my papers saying i wasnt being hired on with no warning. your working hours are all over the map and never stay the same you could be days to afternoons and nights in one week. absolute lack of scheduling, mangement ability and respect.

Rothsay has a great family-like atmosphere and provides social and family friendly events for their employees. The industry is extremely interesting and it is evident that Rothsay provides valuable services. The parent company, Darling, continues to invest in Rothsay’s facilities.

Some departments are spread too thin; however, colleagues are always willing to help. 

Advice to Management: don’t be so risk averse when it comes to adopting innovative processes and programs. Stop implementing/rehashing programs that were from the Maple Leaf Foods days. Time to move on and create something new that works best for Rothsay.

One of the worst companies I've ever worked for. Some employees are bullies and if you file a complaint management ignores it even though harrassment in the workplace is illegal. Management lies to you about everything. Management had no concept of time and don't consider things like traffic when putting Runs together.  Too much work and not enough time. The work is disgusting and very smelly but you do get used to it. Great wages and benefits and a great Christmas party. Other than that I would rather be trapped in a coal mine disaster than work for those liars ever again.

They keep trying to "fix" their people and management issues. The problem is, the same 2 or 3 at the very top for 25 years, they think everyone else is the problem when they are the problem. They don't listen to subject matter experts, one leader promotes schoolyard behaviour (tattling/snitching/bad mouthing). 
If you don't work more than your contracted hours (for free), you aren't doing your job. They need to learn if you can't so your job in your scheduled hours, you actually are the one that can't do their job. 

Decisions are always overridden by 1 person, they are usually wrong.

Run, run very far. You can try making a difference but you won't be around long. They like sycophants. 

I have been with the company for 10 years. I started straight out of school and have progressed through 4 different roles across different functions. I am extremely happy with the development opportunities and the advancement I have received.

The company is always looking for ways to improve, which creates a fast paced work environment. People that love to be busy and a constant challenge will love this company.

The people in the organization are great. People get along well and really care about each other.

The compensation package at the company is generally very good, especially for the areas they are located.
