What is the best part of working at the company?
Very little can honestly be described as a “best part.” At most, the platform creates the initial impression that opportunities may become available, but in my experience that promise was never matched by actual professionalism, communication, or progress.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is the complete uncertainty and lack of communication. After spending significant time completing the assessment, I was left in limbo for more than two months with no response, no timeline, no explanation, and no visible progress. Repeated follow-ups through multiple channels were ignored, which made the process feel careless and deeply disrespectful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
From my experience, the culture appears highly impersonal, opaque, and negligent toward applicants. There seems to be little respect for people’s time, effort, or legitimate requests for updates. The silence across email, internal messaging, and social media gives the impression of an organization that does not value transparency or accountability.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In my case, there was no real “workday” because the application never progressed. The experience consisted of waiting without updates, checking a stagnant dashboard, sending follow-up messages, and receiving no response at all.

This job is great if you need something that is accessible anytime and anywhere (with internet access). I appreciate that I can fit it in in smaller chunks of time here and there in the nooks and crannies of my day, or sit down for a longer chunk of time as needed. It's perfect for my busy life and unpredictable schedule.

Management seems helpful when you need some troubleshooting assistance. It's pretty straightforward work if you're willing and able to read the thorough instructions. There's always an optional chat going on of other people working on similar tasks to bounce questions off of. 

It takes some time for your pay to get approved and become available to you to withdraw, but it's not any longer than a typical paycheck. And you can cash out every week if you so choose, you basically get to determine a more frequent or less frequent pay schedule on your own terms. You are considered a contractor so will need to track your own taxes, etc.

My favourite part is the flexibility. The hardest part is continuing to apply myself through tedious tasks, as some can be less interesting than others, but that seems like a 'life problem' in general (sometimes you've gotta do some boring stuff), rather than a job-specific problem. The tasks you have access to increase as your skills, qualifications, and reliability do.

The high hourly pay and the "flexibility" that comes with it being a remote job make it sound enticing, but there are a couple of things about this job that they don't mention.

1. There is a lot of unpaid work. To get jobs from them, you need to take assessments. Every individual job has its own assessment, so you'll have to take a lot of them if you want to have work consistently. These assessments can take hours and are almost always unpaid. And even if you pass an assessment, this doesn't guarantee work. When I factored in the amount of time I took taking assessments, my pay was around minimum wage.

2. You probably won't get enough work for it to be that flexible. If a job pops up and you don't take it soon enough, others will take it. There is no way to know when jobs will come--it can be days before another job shows up. So in reality, you have less of a choice of when to work than it seems.

3. They can ghost you without warning. One day, I opened the site, and everything was gone. There were no jobs and no assessments. There were no messages explaining the situation. Clicking "support" only opened the same blank page in a new tab. It's been a month now, and the page is still empty. I've heard of this happening to many others.

Overall, due to these experiences, I would not recommend these jobs to anyone, and I do not think very highly of this employer.

I worked for this company from home with a wonderful schedule of “whenever I wanted” for 4 relatively happy months of this year, before I was shadowbanned from my job. Had tons of work, with some slow Mondays, up until I logged in one morning to see my dashboard completely empty, Qualifications included. Which was weird considering I had a couple there the day before. When I scrolled down to click on the Support button, the page simply refreshed and nothing happened. I checked back everyday for 3 weeks and nothing changed, my emails were never answered. There is no stable line of communication between workers and the upper employees, the only real area of support and information is in the Data Annotation subreddit (r/DataAnnotationTech). That’s how I find out I and many other workers had the exact same experience. Try at your own risk, there is no real job security here. 

Working at Data Annotation has been such an awesome experience where I have been able to use my skills and passions combined to contribute towards AI development in fields that I believe in. My life as a mother, learner and community worker means that I do a lot of work in this world for free, so having Data Annotation as a gig has allowed me to meet new financial goals while still working in the fields that matter to me. 

I would encourage anyone looking to broaden their skills and experience to try out working for Data Annotation. While the onboarding can take a moment, it is worth the wait when the interesting projects begin rolling into your dashboard.

The "company" lacks transparency, and detailed information about the company's leadership, financial stability, or long-term vision is nonexistent. 

LACK OF COMMUNICATION, especially regarding account issues or payment problems. Some users have reported having their accounts deactivated with large amounts of earnings yet to be paid out and not receiving any response from the company's support contacts.

SUDDEN ACCOUNT DEACTIVATION:  Your accounts are deactivated without warning or explanation, sometimes with significant unpaid earnings. Transparency is absent, and accountability can be frustrating and concerning for workers.

INCONSISTENT PROJECT AVAILABILITY: The availability of projects can be unpredictable, making it difficult to rely on this platform for consistent income. There are long periods  (for months and years) of time with no available tasks.

Decent money when there's actually tasks.

Zero communication from the company, even when submitting multiple support tickets. 

Because of this, Reddit is full of people desperately looking for answers. Even when you're in a project slack channel, your questions are ignored. You'll have no idea if you've been kicked from the platform for just experiencing a project drought, there's no distinction. And if you're not on the platform as soon as those tasks go up, you'll miss out. So the claim of "making your own schedule" is completely false. 

Advice to leadership:
You seriously need to answer people's questions. This is utterly ridiculous. Everyone is confused. Do better.


Once you pass the initial assessment to land the job, you will need to complete more qualifications before being able to work on actual paid tasks. The pay ranges based on complexity. There are no benefits and no management to talk to if you need help. You don't get any feedback, so you won't know if you're doing good or bad and you will get dropped without having a chance to correct yourself. There are down times where there is little or no work for you to do. Best part about the job is that you get to choose when and how much you want to work, at least when there are jobs available. Good as a side gig, don't rely on it as your primary source of income if you have a choice.

DataAnnotation is pretty amazing. I've been with them for 5 months now. I work from home as much as I want, whenever I want. The pay is competitive for my region, and the work is actually fun at times. There's a lot of variety in the available tasks and they provide qualification quizzes for access to higher-paying projects. There's not much feedback unless you ask for it, which I find ideal. For those who appreciate feedback and collaboration, there are active admins and Slack channels for discussion. The best part of the job is it doesn't dictate my schedule. It has allowed me to take trips, focus my time on personal projects, and spend more time with my family and friends. Seriously, DataAnnotation is the most freeing work I've ever done, and I believe it's the future of employment.

I spent a year doing contract work for this company, and it has been the worst experience ever. The onboarding process is almost non-existent, and there is no ongoing training on completing the different jobs and tasks provided.  There is no feedback as to your work performance and if you are completing tasks properly. After working for the company for a year, they requested an ID verification, and for the last four months since, the projects queue has been empty with no work available.  This is an issue reported by a large percentage of their workers.
