I have been part of the Dawson Group since 2010, and during my time here, I've had the privilege to grow both personally and professionally. I've taken on various roles—starting in accounting, moving into operations and marketing, and finally settling into my position as Marketing Specialist for Dawson Group and their family of companies since 2018. This journey has allowed me to experience our companies from multiple perspectives, each bringing its own set of new exciting challenges.

One of the aspects I appreciate most about working at Dawson Group is how supportive management and the executive team has been. Over the years, I’ve seen shifts in leadership, and while change can sometimes be challenging, these changes have been for the better. I have never felt as confident in the company's direction as I do now. At the forefront of every decision and in all company relationships, Dawson Group holds its core value of "People First." This commitment is clear in how management prioritizes team well-being, development, and support, creating an environment where we feel valued and respected as individuals.

Additionally, the company culture here fosters collaboration and encourages innovation, which is especially important in a marketing role. I genuinely feel that Dawson Group values input from its team members, and I've always felt empowered to bring new ideas to the table.

I got on with Dawson Group back in the latter half of 2020. I initially got wind of the position through one of the staff members (HR/Admin) through LinkedIn, who recommended me for the role as they needed someone in my field. The onboarding process went fairly quickly as it wasn't too long before I was right into working with the company. Initially, everything went well. I was working from home and had a lot of freedom to develop and initiate the projects that I was a part of. I did like the role a lot and I enjoyed some of the projects I got to work on, but the company is another story. It didn't take too long to experience what a lot of the other reviewers shared here. 

The upper management of the company has no connection with the staff members from all departments. Even though I worked from home, I would occasionally go into the office to take care of a few tasks and I would notice the lack of communication amongst everyone. One of the big problems Dawson Group has is the amount of nepotism and monarchy between the higher-ups within the organization. At the time when I was there, they had a large staff, lots of projects, and tons of moving pieces, which made it easy for management to make a lot of unnoticed changes behind the scenes. The biggest issue with the company is the lack of accountability from most of the senior staff. Layoffs every other quarter in certain departments of the on-site staff made morale low and drama swirl in the admin/HR department. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Shifts are 4 on 3 off. Most of the crew are good people to work with. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management. Lack of training and mgmt not taking accountability.  Also paychecks often are missing days.  Negligence, lacking effort and commitment. Mgmt often have personal agendas. Poor financial managment. Safety is preached yet not a concern. Equipment is old and often not road legal. Usually in violation at best. 
Poor management and general lack of support and interest are typically and unanimously the highest stressor for the crews working in the field.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Older seasoned crew are good to work with, very skilled in what they do. 

However, culture of rewarding bad behavior, and punishing good work ethics is punished or oppressed. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work always varies throughout seasons. 
Summers are generally a lot of ditching, brushing, patching. Equipment maintenance.  
Winter, plowing and sanding. Material transfers. Equipment maintenance.

Im a former SM at this dealership. Ill start by saying if your a tech\parts tech or anything but a manager its a great place to work and grow, as there is massive opportunity there. I strongly recommend applying. The benefits, the stats, 3 weeks holiday are well above average and more.
The Branch Manager is an amazing woman who's heart is dedicated to making the Dealership a better place. She treats good people well and wants nothing but a successful Dealership filled with good people. Here is where it goes down. Managers are grossly underpaid including the Branch Manager. The VP of the company believes managers should be paid less than the employee's they are responsible for. (So manager's who are accountable to answer for their staff's errors and babysitting grown humans are paid less than them). I left the dealership strictly due to being under paid. It made me sad that the VP feels that way. Its not Right!!
To summarize This dealership is a great place and run by a great woman!! For Employee's not management.

Wow, where to begin... I agree with a lot of the previous reviews that have been posted over the years. Dawson Group has a revolving door of staff members between each quarter and year. There is a divide from the onsite staff, office staff, road staff, and travelling staff between the senior management. Don't let the high salaries fool you either, as they are a way to intrigue you to jumping onboard. The only real benefit I felt in the role was a decent work-life balance and my salary. Other than that, the environment here is very poor because of the senior managements lack of decision making skills and having no real relationship amongst the general staff. Questionable decisions from management often lead to confusion from everyone, work being repeated over and over again, or staff members getting laid off.  

It was an great company to work for with great people, decent wage and pension, and good direct managers. But unfortunately upper management changed and the company went spinning down hill faster than i have ever seen, all the lower managers quit, and most of the employees left and no one is left with any experence, all due to one individual in upper management who "can do no wrong" i wouldent deal with them as a company, bring my trucks there, or work for them in any department, they also cant pay bills so be prepaired to be scolded by outside venders and constant phone calls of companys wanting there money. Until the upper management wakes up work elsewhere. 

I was there for 6 years once the new management was in place they proceeded to get rid of key people me being one of them. If you didn't agree with their ridiculous ideas you were fired or reprimanded unfairly 
Senior management now is losing people regularly and still think they are doing a good job lol 
I don't recommend this company to anyone it's not a friendly place to work and you aren't going to be treated well ever they treat the employees horribly. The company was vibrant and fun before the management changes now the doors are closed because they don't want to engage with anyone 

I had a shirt contract with Dawson, and I had a few exceptional coworkers. My manager did care about us all but was very concerned in covering his own behind. Management politics were strong and managers were quick to point fingers. Lack of professionalism with admin. The pay is excellent, but hours are long and time off can be hard to get if needed during busy season. If you want to just put your head down and work, it’s great.

You hear of few things coming out of this company and mostly all of it is a dreadful negative wildfire of how poorly managed the Business is and how poor the morale of each employee (with a wild turnover) is. 

Each passing week a promise was made about initial "changes" by Management only to be left swept under the rug & repeat the process every other month. Employees are taken advantage of. You don't exist to the higher ups in this Corporate goon squad. 

Moving forward ?  This company has spiralled just saying   All the department managers have quit and as well as of most of the seasoned technicians in Kamloops   The few remaining voted the union in place so that speaks volumes how the place is run  , this just doesn’t happen without a reason . Penticton also certified and all thanks to one individual. Was certainly a people first establishment before new management implemented. Very sad
