Typical day as a dock worker hear involves using a forklift to unload and load trailers and paperwork to help you find the location of everything your loading and where you are putting unloaded freight. It can be fun and laid back at times when it's not busy and things are going smooth (Very Rare). 

Transportation of Dangerous goods and forklift training is required by law and the company provided me with 0 of this training. I had a valid forklift ticket prior to starting here although they are still required (oddly) by law to train you and have records of that training on file.

The facility is too small for the amount of freight coming through and therefor it is a challenge to safely maneuver sit down propane forklifts without hitting or damaging customer freight. I had experienced constant near misses with other employees constantly walking in front of or behind moving equipment. This place is a safety hazard, with 90% of the docks not functional and doors always broken and nothing gets repaired, no Fire extinguishers, No First Aid, No Eye wash station, Garbage and damaged freight everywhere. Be prepared to clean out your nose daily. If you like working with technology and software from the early 1990's this place is for you.

Stress levels run high here, People never put freight they have moved back to where it's supposed to be and this makes it a nightmare to find things, especially when a customer is waiting for pickup. I Swear I was expected to do everything at once sometimes, and could never focus on properly getting my main job done in a timely manner. I always dealt with frustrated and upset customers because there freight is always damaged or we couldn't find it.

Workplace culture well I think you get the idea, come on in and experience it for yourself.
Management...what management? I saw my Operations manager on my first day and then never again. Lots of Micro-Managing from supervisors here. I've lost count at how many times they said they were going to do something, or have something done a certain way and it never happened. 

Most of the time I stepped up and went the extra mile to try and make things better and do things properly but nobody else would listen or do the same and when I made my very first major mistake I was written up without any consideration of my work ethic or the conditions I had to work with.

I'm sure in due time things will improve and change, but doesn't look like it anytime soon.

One of the largest transportation carriers in Canada where I learned to be professional, able to cope with reoccurring changes, management skills.  When I started with the company, there were 3 office staff in Calgary working in an agency environment, now there are over 20 office staff as well as numerous drivers and dock personnel.  I was instrumental in growing with the company for 18 years.

A typical day at work was multi-tasking with all other departments and 24 terminals across the country. I booked appointments with Walmart distribution (Supply Chain Management) and all other grocery warehouses and distribution warehouses in Calgary.  Customer service, problem solving, extra billing, co-ordinating,  document control with the CPC pallets and organizing clearance of inbond US freight. were an every day duty.
The most enjoyable part of my job was helping internal and external customers, I could never say no to whatever challenge they gave me and made sure they had an answer quickly.
The hardest part of my job was dealing with irate customers which I would try to help and would transfer to higher management if unable to satisfy them.

My co-workers always came to me if they needed an answer or help with certain things which I always welcomed.  I have made friends for life with many co-workers whether they worked in Calgary or Hartland.  It was a fun environment for the most part.

I worked for so many different managers over the years.  Some were very, very good to work with and some were a challenge to say the least.  I trained a few and was always willing to take extra duties or more work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I can't think of anything.... 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The generally low levels of fs given by different levels and types of employees (forklift driver, truck driver, office coordinators and supervisors)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Low level of training, hardly any warehousing equipment (tape and shrink wrap are hard to find, lucky if you can locate some banding equipment, no stock of quality replacement pallets just a junk trailer for the spit we break. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Punch in at a paper punch clock @ 10:30pm.
Hope I've got a 'yota or I have to drive a stupid crown for a few hours until someone leaves from an overlapping shift. 
Drive to the little central office and grab a gun, go unload some appointment trailers from our yard and stage freight in lanes on the floor or reload other trailers with the freight not meant to go out yet. 
Finish in our area between about 1-3am or so.
After that I might do some outbound loads for the upcoming day, preload a morning driver or help with unloading trailers from other terminals. 
Drivers start arriving between 5am and 6am.
When the route drivers come in most of us are assisting them with loading or at least digging out freight from the cramped together lanes and some are still unloading trailers that oftentimes have freight some drivers need. 
Try to get out closer to 7am than 8am as the driving conditions have gotten quite bad and the workload will be decreasing soon.

As an Account Manager in Freight, it was great to get out there and really learn about the multiple industries clients service, and build out tailored solutions. Flexibility in the logistics industry made it easy to compile options for clients, IE multiple solutions to choose from to get the desired result to earn business. 

I learned the complete in / outs of the logistics business, but more importantly that customer service is key in defining the future path a business will take; regardless of the industry. 

Management was phenomenal in certain departments, however was or seemed to be continuously changing, which sometimes caused confusion. Each sector maintained a different procedure for getting things done, which often made cohesion between terminals / departments extremely difficult. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was listening, and building client relationships. That was ultimately the fundamental part of what I did, and the reason I was successful. Listening, understanding & executing strategies with Clients made this job fun.

Overall great managers: friendly staff, most staff are helpful. Over-dependence on email communication (can be frustrating). No room for advancement. You must work with the company, for at least, one year before you can request changing departments or become a full-time permanent staff member. Company hires through agencies (can be a downside depending on what your goals are). Be wary of SOME staff who boss others around when they are NOT in the management role. Lots of staff events to promote healthy work culture; lots of eating events and holiday events. Easy to access the company by car or public transit. At the border of Mississauga and Brampton. Reasonable 8-hour shifts and reasonable & fair pay.

If you're thinking about working here, first make a list of all the things you're willing to lose!!! In a month, You'll spend 95% of your time on the road. You'll be lucky to get 5000Km/ week!!! So, with that being said, say good bye to your house, hobbies, family and life in general. Come payday you'll wonder what you'll do with the less than $3000.00 cheque. Oh yes that's what an Owner/Operator will get, IF YOU'RE LUCKY!! This is by far the worst company I've ever worked for in 20 years of being an Owner/Op!! I'm not alone in this opinion. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT WORK FOR DAY & ROSS!!!! Sit and wait, that's all they know. With the Socialist E-Log, fighting to get work, fighting every time you get paid about missing funds and on and on!! Nobody deserves this stress and frustration in life. I'm amazed they continue to operate as long as they have. Ask drivers who work there, there full of it if they say otherwise. To the Owners, Dispatcher, Fleet Support Specialist and Load Planners.. I have one thing to say; How can you even sleep at night? (I'd curse but this won't allow me to.)

The company was good, benefits and rpp, but the surrey terminal management are the worst, especially pm shift too much stress of work coz from manager to lead hand are selfish they only thinking was the good of himself not about the company and the dock worker and driver..they dont have even experienced the only they had was acting smartguy that thinking they know what are they doing, giving them idea or suggestion they are passive listener. Goodluck for that terminal after the hard work of previous manager i hope its gonna be survived.

Afternoon shift i think there is hidden agenda, seniority wasnt exist in that company. As long same color you have a chance a position.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Everyday i like working in that company except for the management gaving us order.

Being in Spot Quotes, this was my first ever office job. In my department, we have great leadership with our amazing department manager and supervisors, and they take the time to get to know us and are always willing to help us out where need be. Being in the office, even if most of our department is still working from home due to Covid-19, all of us are able to bounce off each other for things that we need, and sometimes as a treat we will bring food in. Sometimes, however, we do get long wait times when we have system issues, however we all work diligently to make sure that the calls are taken care of. 
Another thing that is enjoyable about this job is, as long as you are willing to learn, you will always be given opportunities to learn new things, new systems, etc. 
Day & Ross Inc, is one of the best places to work for, in my personal opinion. It's great, and I have no complaints at all. 

Each kindergarten classroom is staffed with a kindergarten teacher and paraprofessional. Class sizes range from 20-23 students with several kindergarten classrooms also hosting a student teacher or Professional Development School intern. The morning typically involves an opening gathering/morning meeting time, language arts centers and math centers. After lunch and recess most classrooms schedule Kid Writing, science, social studies, and developmental play activities.
My co worker is amazing, we both have children and understand the needs and wants for the younger generation.
The hardest part of the job is when the kintergarten move on to SK and we dont' see them as often or deal with them on a one to one basis.
The most enjoyable part of the job is when the children arrive in the morning and embrace me with a big hug. To see the smiles on their faces bring joy and smile to my face.

This is a great place to work if you like being treated like a number instead of a person, are a brown noser, or you love working unpaid overtime.
Hard work is not rewarded. Good work is not rewarded. Going above and beyond is not rewarded. The only thing that is rewarded is stroking upper managements ego.
They have no idea how to train or onboard new employees, and they don’t care to learn. They will change processes on a weekly basis, without even providing the proper communications.
They allow employees to harass and bully others so long as it is one of their favourites doing the bullying.
You will work non stop, achieving all targets. The moment it slows down, you will be laid off without so much as a “sorry”.
