Deerhurst Resort

Deerhurst Resort is an overrated hotel. The cleaning they expect you to do in the smallest amount of time is disproportionate to how much guests are paying to stay. I felt like I threw all my morals out the window trying to live up to their standard. 
Management is the poorest I have ever encountered.  Even if you say you don’t want over time, they force you to work it anyways with little days off for your body to recoup. 
They promote people that have no job experience to what the promotion entails leaving the staff under them questioning why they chose this person when literally anyone could do a better job than the person they chose. 
Manager of Housekeeping is very petty and when you quit, will call your new employer saying bad things about you.
Most supervisors are childish and act like teenagers in high school, making secret chats to complain and about their fellow colleagues, while management has little to no care as to whats going on in those conversations.  
They have a shuttle to take you to different buildings but cram all of you in a 9 seater, no thought as to the pandemic going on, if you miss the shuttle and are late to start your rooms, they blame it on you for being slow when they know all too well that there is not enough room for 30+ people in one shuttle. 
Training was very poor, from being left alone on your first day for more than half an hour at a time to every single supervisor having their own way of what you should and shouldn’t be doing. 
Overall this was the worst place I have ever worked and wouldn’t recommend any one to work here. 
If you wanted to be treated like a slave and worked like a dog. Go for it. 

When you work at a well known Canadian resort you get to meet a lot of different people from many different walks of life. This was very enlightening to me, and I believe meeting so many different people has allowed me to have more of a well rounded view on life.  

Many of my co-workers were hard workers and very easy to get along with.  However, there were also some of my co-workers who would try to pawn their tasks off to others which was always frustrating. This allowed me learn to be proactive with my time and depend only on myself to get a job done. Working there also taught me that communication is the key to having a successful business. This was very clear to me when we got new staff members and they were not trained properly. 

The hardest part of the job was the fact that we were rarely allowed a break. When you are a waitress/bartender, the ability to have a 10 minute break is difficult because you have tables that need to be tended to. But working for 12 hours a day as I often would without a scheduled break can get quite tiring. 

One of the things I enjoyed most about my job was the hours. I am a hard worker who enjoys getting plenty of hours, and Deerhurst was always able to provide me with those extra hours. Regardless of if it was in another department, my boss was always very accommodating to find me more work and I was always grateful for that.

Deerhurst is a very large, fast-paced resort however the attitudes driven by local workers as well as the fun work-crew in the summer make the shifts tolerable. If you enjoy a social job, this would definitely be one I recommend. I had to quit because of the overall rudeness of the staff. I couldn't handle the pressures of working somewhere with such relaxed policies where the  customers expected to be treated like celebrities. There were events with children (i.e dance competitions) filled with rude parents who refused to control their kids. My own manager at the time tried her best to control these incidences as well as others such as angry guests or drunk patrons but there is only so much workers can do before the resort should step in and implement policies to protect their staff.
As well, many of the male staff were highly inappropriate at times, including with younger workers and instead of addressing the men for these issues, I was simply told by staff beforehand to "look out" or that people acted a certain way.

Although it was only four months, Deerhurst Resort showed me the management in Food and Beverage, but especially the attitude to have in order to endure in this industry. I always keep in mind one sentence that my supervisor told me: “Stay humble, you always have something new to learn in this industry.”. They trusted and gave me plenty of opportunities to handle tasks by myself. For instance, I had the chance to be a trainer and lead a small group of staff to accomplish tasks. I got positive feedback and the result was great. I feel ready for more responsibilities. In the future, if I would be in a management position, I believe I can use what I learned and be taught in this internship to do things better in an effectively and productively way.

I was hired from my school program and was told that shuttle, accommodations and food was inculed. I was hired in the RSA position but however the management at housekeeping is terrible and having to find out that i had 6 to 8 bosses. with getting food i was told i am entitled to get food from the buffet but the management and messages around the resort dosnt know about the program witch leading me not to have food and to this point i had to email the hr coordinator to address this problem. the working schedule is by far hard to get around and not knowing when to start.

	Represented multiple condominium corporations through legal disputes to ensure positive outcomes and prevent escalation.
	Discovered evidence securement of embezzlement valued at $100K+.through trust fund audit processes and forensic management of funds.
	Integral in Shared Asset meetings to establish groundwork for reasonable practices as a collective representing 120 investors.

I'm highly satisfied with Deerhurst Resort's management. I have been working here from last 2 years in Food and Beverage department and also got some hours in Housekeeping. I can firmly say that Deerhurst is one the top rated work places in my entire life. The whole management is spectacular and they are very friendly and helpful. The peak time is from June to January 1st for Food and Beverage. Hence, Housekeeping department is being steady throughout the year. The wages are also comparatively good. Deerhurst provides housing for their full-time employees

Liked most of the people I worked with. Some on the Admin. Floor wouldn't even acknowledge that you were part of the team.
As a manager you were not allowed to make decisions without those above you giving their ok.
I didn't like having to implement policies or procedures that did nothing for the morale of the staff.
I enjoyed working with my team....great bunch of people!

Long days and hard work sometimes 12 to 14 hours a day. I have been taught about different food allergies and diets having set up buffets that have feed thousands of people including heads of state.
The management was very knowledgable setting up the clients agenda well in advance sending us the orders and we would make them happen no matter what the location. The clients were always interesting and fun to be around. But the hardest part of the job was the late nights long hours and never being able to see your family on holidays

If you’re willing to give up weekends and holidays, Deerhurst is a fine place to work. 

Management demands hard work, and the job can be quite stressful at times, but you can also see great paycheques - particularly in food and beverage service.

There is plenty of room to grow and advance at Deerhurst if you’re interested in building a career in hospitality.
