I've been working at Delco for 5 years, and I must say it's been an incredibly fulfilling experience. One of the things that stand out the most about this company is its unwavering commitment to employee well-being. From the moment I joined, I noticed a genuine effort to create a supportive and inclusive work environment where every team member feels valued and respected.

Company has flexible start times, decent salaries and benefits.

There are a lot of good, knowledgeable co-workers and a wide range of projects. You're constantly learning and re-learning new skills.

Despite that workplace culture feels very isolated. Most employees don't take coffee breaks and work through lunch at their desks.

There's high turnover among junior employees for a variety of reasons. 

Managers, supervisors and project managers don't really know how to manage people. The focus is all on the work. There's also no formal training structure so it's every man/woman for themselves.

The company takes a top-down planning approach to projects but there's a definite lack of leadership, mentor-ship and direction from project managers. Any direction that does come is late in the process and reactionary.

The company also forces employees to bank all overtime and often charges it as straight time, which is often against federal and provincial labour laws.

Management is a bit of an Old Boys Club. Managers definitely have a "type" when it comes to female hires. Male hires come in all ages, shapes and sizes. Female hires are almost exclusively 18-25, thin, fit and attractive. Great if you're a guy working here, not so great if you're a woman looking to get hired here.

I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, this workplace fosters a demoralizing atmosphere where favoured individuals are often assigned roles for which they very clearly lack the knowledge, let alone the qualifications, leading to widespread incompetence that hampers overall productivity. Managers exhibit a lack of concern for these issues as long they are unaffected. The office operates with a political and high school-like dynamic, despite boasting about its departure from "traditional style" management, which, in reality, translates to poor overall management. It is very obvious that some employees are more favoured than others, regardless of their competence or productivity. Employees frequently find themselves forced to follow misguided instructions from said incompetent people and are shut down when raising valid concerns. Manager also does not share the general vision of the company to any employee, or only shares it with favoured employees, making it extremely difficult to get things done. 

Delco has established itself as a stable, long-standing company that continually pushes boundaries in a number of sectors, always striving for excellence of work for personal, company, customer, and societal benefit. 

The work done at Delco Automation is varied and highly technical, with a focus in the industrial automation space.  Strong problem solving, critical thinking, technical, and communication skills are a must in the fast-paced environment. 

The teamwork and collaboration across a number of challenging projects is an exciting aspect of the work.  There is always something new to learn, and a new challenge to overcome.  

As with any company, there are always improvements to be made.  The positive attitude of co-workers working together is encouraging to see how Delco will continue to grow and improve as a company moving forward. 

In many ways Delco is still trying to find its way as a larger company. Lots of growth has happened very quickly, and to their credit, management have restructured departments often and empowered individuals from within in an attempt to create more structure and a better on-boarding experience. Speaking from experience in the Water division, management is very flexible with time off, work from home, and other unique arrangements. The company is quite young in the engineering department and lots of opportunity to carve out a role and advance in the company if you are willing to put in the time and take more responsibility when it is offered to you. People who work well independently and thrive with little micromanagement will have a great time here. 

Delco is a very unique company in Saskatoon.  Started in the 1990's, it has grown tremendously since then, and with that growth comes a lot of opportunities.  New roles are being identified all the time, and Delco likes to promote from within.  Work hard, contribute something innovative, and you will be rewarded.  It is not all smooth sailing, of course.  With rapid growth means pressure to meet a rising work-load.  Sometimes there is a lack of mentorship, you may have to seek out and build those relationships on your own.  But Delco is not rigid - it is flexible, cooperative, collaborative, inclusive, and there are a large variety of cool things going on.  

Delco is a solid Saskatoon based company that provides a wonderful place to work and live for those that choose to make a long term commitment to the organization.

With any company, there may be flaws, but the management in place are always doing their best to adapt and change to the marketplace, as well as the needs and expectations of the diverse workforce that is employed here.  

Delco is a fair and honest company that is diversified across multiple industries with growth potential.  

Management is often overbearing when you need space, but when you need help, they are nowhere to be found. You set annual goals for your performance reviews, but it's never clear if it's helping your progress, and there is no indication for how to move up the ladder or where you stand. The pay is below the rest of the industry. You'll see money be spent on things like a golf simulator and massage chair while receiving hardly any raised from year to year, even if you hit your targets. 

Typical day - work on existing projects, provide phone support to clients, provide support to other office employees. Order and configure computers for projects. Fix office computer related issues. Install and test applications.

What I learned is team work and collaboration on large and small projects.

Most enjoyable part is commissioning road trips and seeing places, most people do not even know exist.

management is bad and a stressful place to work. You’re expected to do your job but half the time they don’t even tell you what your job will be and often times I show up to a site and the sites not even ready for me. Huge waste of time and not at all organized.
Management never thinks they are the problem. It’s always other people.
