A typical day at work for a dining room server would include working breakfast shift, lunch shift, or dinner shift, or any combination of them.  You will gain valuable experience as a server in one of the better retirement homes out there.  You will learn how to serve the elderly and provide excellent service.  The hardest part of the job is learning to not sweat the small things and learn to deal with death.  The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with residents learning about them and their stories and making their day with excellent service.  
The job starts you off above minimum wage as tips are not accepted.  The job work/life balance can be very difficult as most shifts will be 3 hours long and often for new employees be 5-8 which is in the middle of the day.  Also schedules are often released only 2 or 3 days in advance for a 2 week period so trying to plan your life ahead of time becomes very difficult.  
There is no room for advancement at this workplace in the dining room as all higher positions are filled and will not be opening any time soon, and there is seniority hierarchy in place.
Overall it is a good place to work for a part-time position, suited to a student who needs the extra cash.

The most difficult part of any of my jobs was building team and keeping a healthy, motivated environment.

The most enjoyable part of my work were the people and the challenge of building team and maintaing a health motivated environment.

I began working here when they first opened their doors, during the Pandemic.  As a server I was responsible for setting up continental breakfast, serving lunch and all the side duties that comes with that.
I watched it grow from a few Residents to over 100 when I left. 
The culture for the most part is fantastic. The sense of family is unmatched. The GM was very involved,  easy to talk to and well respected. In my opinion, experience is what drives the Management team at Delmanor. 
You will meet some awesome residents who will share their lives with you, and you get to make their days a little brighter.

Health and wellness manager (DOC) was new to her role and felt as though she had to prove herself. Was very unprofessional and RUDE towards her own staff. However, when approached by other department or residents/ family she appeared to be someone else. This place is a perfect example of work place violence (manager is a bully). Work environment was toxic, due to lack of proper training, lack of proper communication, incompetent DOC and no support. I'd advise you do not waste your time applying for this location!

When don't have coverage for your shift, she obligated to be there when ur sick.

Working at my current position involves being in a constantly fast paced environment with a multitude of small jobs to do while maintaining the flow of services in my department. You have to move around a lot while checking on other places in your department, delivering equipment and orders to co-workers in my department as well as maintain your specified area while equipment comes back to be maintained.

I worked at Delmanor and it was great. It truly felt like a family with the residents and staff. could be tiring but knowing the exact hours always was great. The hardest part was that for the most of the time there was constant Dining room manager changes and I was being overworked as a student in High School at the time. As well as the head office did not like to adjust our pay as minimum wage increased. however the hours were great and the team was all nice and understanding.

This work environment was anything but enjoyable. From the day I started it was unorganized and stressful. 
I was given zero training to new programs. I was asked to start disciplining staff . I followed direction from my GM and in the end was question by support office. 
The two staff that were complaining because of this lied to support office and I was used as the scape goat and was let go.
The worst work experience in my life. 

Delamanor has a very positive and engaging culture. Our senior management team is highly accessible and consistently reaches out with support and encouragement. Communication is strong, staffing levels are appropriate, and staff appreciation is truly prioritized.  I truly couldn’t be happier to be part of this amazing company. 

I didn’t have the best experience but that was a lot to do with the fact I was going through a lot of stuff at the time. My managers ALWAYS had my back, the GM was absolutely heaven sent.. truly an inspirational lady. The staff in the dining room department was absolutely horrid. They were not welcoming, friendly or kind to me. They also didn’t seem to care about the residents which broke my heart.
