Delta Controls

Delta Controls has a lot going for it. The people are excellent. The company is generally well managed. It has a good culture and people are kind and polite. It is a very stimulating work environment and my role was very hands on, and at times it was a lot of fun. 

However, lots of workaholics work at Delta Controls. Crunch times are bad and people work themselves to the bone. The pay is the worst part....it's terrible for what is expected from you, and in my role there was very little opportunity for advancement or the opportunity to earn more money. They are very reluctant to pay overtime so any extra hours are banked and taken as paid time off, but then actually getting days off can be challenging. There was no way I could work a 2nd job.

They say they train people, but in my department there was no structured training at all. You get paired up with an experienced person and you learn by watching and asking questions. There are no learning objectives stated and no evaluation of learning. If you can learn and become productive that way than great, but the turnover in our department was a little high since some just didn't make it and they have high expectations of productivity.

If you are the kind of person who mostly wants a career that takes up most of your time and energy, and pay isn't really that important to you, than you'll be very happy at Delta. You'll work with great people in a well managed, stimulating workspace. The coffee is good. The gym and fitness programs are great. The benefits are great too. It's in a good location too but... I just don't get why some people are content being poorly paid workaholics. You'll need to derive all of your satisfaction from working your butt off and just being into your job, because the pay was really disappointing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The actual work was great. It's the people that make the job horrible. A lot of bullying, discrimination, and favouritism in this office, which made the job incredibly stressful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very cliquey. If you're bullied by one of your coworkers and you advise upper management they play favourites, and depending who you're complaining about they do nothing. Then they gaslight you and say that you're in the wrong and it's just "your perception." This was such a toxic, high school vibe type of office environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up, check my emails, do my work (very hard worker), help customers, get bullied by coworkers, get purposely left out of group activities and gatherings, do most of the work while another lazy co-worker leaves for 45 mins at a time and texts all day. You text once and your supervisor sends you an email stating you're on your phone too much while cc'ing your HR manager. But everyone else in the office texts all the time. If you are new and not part of their "clique" you will get treated horribly, and everything is your fault and your own perception, even if situations happen right in front of your supervisor. So much discrimination happening at the is office.

I had worked at this company for over 6 years and loved it.There was very few days where I didn't want to go to work. However...

Some of the management team is quite dysfunctional and the overall management structure doesn't put the employees interests first. The company is struggling with growth and employee attraction.

Last May, 2016 the company was sold to an oversees company. This transition has put more stress on the company as the need to grow big and fast is now right at the front.

The culture of the company WAS great but has declined over the past several years. Several of positions do not have the right employee fit and this causes tension within the company and specific teams.

This company is changing and not for the better. Do your research and make sure that you know what you are getting out of it. The company will not grow you, you have to do it on your own.

The training there is lacking and is proved with their statistics that are shared within the company. The pay is extremely low for what you're worth. 

I was told when I started that "the people here will throw a child under the bus if that means they can protect themselves" 
Little did I know, they were absolutely right. They blame the new guy for everything - including things that happen in other departments and for things that didnt happen during their tenure. 

My favourite thing is that you're given PTO, but get in trouble for using it.

The only good things about Delta Controls is the free food and flexible hours. Even then the free food might get taken away as people are abusing the system and stealing food.

Good for short term but not worth it for long term employment. 

I am still currently working with this company. I like it because I am good at it and I can also take my work home and work from home. Everyone works well together at this company and everyone has a great attitude. We all help each other and nobody gets frustrated with one another. If there is something someone needs help with we help. It is a big company and its hustle and bustle which I like because it keeps the day going and there is always something to be done. I am great with people and a very positive person. I have learned many things from this company and from working as an moa at medical offices.

A growing company that has a family feel that isn't so big that you feel like a number but is big enough to drive change in our industry which has some formidable companies in it.
There is a lot of autonomy to do your job but you are also given the support you need to get it done. You feel like your opinion counts and is listened too and not just swept under the rug. 
There is a ton of pressure to grow since recently being acquired but you get the sense that everyone is on board and doing their part to keep the ship going in the right direction.

Working as a contractor and not knowing of permanent emplyment opportunity

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Kind, professional, organized, nice people, free lunch once a week

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working in the office with three monitors. Start a day with free Nespreso coffe. Lounge is available for break time. Self time manage is allowed.

Delta is a great place to work, leading the Building Automation Industry with exciting new technology and products. Teams are mostly autonomous with good team leads to drive them to deliver projects on time. The management team is welcoming - there aren't many companies where the President knows everyone by name, and will strike up a conversation with you in the hallway no matter if you are a manager or an entry level new employee. Everyone has the chance to give their ideas and feedback, and help make the company better, and even improve the BAS industry.

It's okay to start out, but not great in the long run. Find a future elsewhere. Even if you are willing to put in the work, they don't pay you enough and expect you to work like a robot with meager pay and poor raises. 

The company is nothing more than a waster of your time and talent. It's a place where talent goes out the door and mediocres are given promotions.

Your success here depends on relationships with your seniors and the seniors are mediocres. 

If you are young and smart (or have higher degrees under your belt), STAY AWAY, unless you can't find a job anywhere else.
