This was amongst the worst experiences of my entire life. Bombarded with abuse, racism and a daily reminder of the extreme poverty in the UK. If you were empathetic to their plight, this caused depression and anger, because it shows what little regard this government has towards the sick and disabled. 
The Standford Prison Experiment hypothesised that when given power over others, people would become vicious. This was flawed as it wasn't the case with all of the participants, but my time at the DWP showed that to progress to any degree within the company required a blindness to any problems with work/ government policy. The result being that people with authority tended to largely be unsympathetic dullards with no concept of people as individuals with different needs; just simple box-checking. The bullying management culture was never excessive to the point where something could be done, but always resided in the grey area where they would quickly retreat behind 'policy' to justify their actions. So the amendment should be that certain 'types' of people certainly abuse authority and will turn on the people in positions that they themselves were once in.

Being a Work Coach can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s less rewarding when management are so disorganised, nothing above you gets actioned. Training is intense, and even when you’ve finished, you still feel massively unequipped to deal with most situations. Support is lacking once in post as well. However, this is very much dependent on the Jobcentre you are based in, and there are many colleagues that have worked there for 20+ years and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, the large recruitment drive means that many Jobcentres are inundated with new recruits who are all bumbling along with little idea what they’re doing, and management that are overwhelmed with new staff. A good idea in principle, but existing staff were not prepared for the large amount of new starters and the support they’d require. 

The job  tough dealing with all kinds of issues, there were a lot of abusive people on the telephone but as long as you didnt take it personally it was fine.

The staff were great and flexible working was good.

Being part of a team that was employed by capita you rarely saw anyone from the management team.

Great place to work, great benefits, awesome flexibility. Management is more like micro management - high security.

Trainings not great but once you get into the job it’s fairly straightforward must be used to working on computers

Great place to work if your a people person and enjoy reaching targets set by the company. Always busy, lots to learn and take in but generally a good place to work.

Great if you enjoy a challenge and like every day to be different.On-going training and development is provided; developmental opportunities are available.
