Up until new owners/management took over in June 2016, this place was spectacular to work for. (worked there off/on part time). Always welcomed back. Great management.   Since June 2016, new owners have driven away long term staff (15-20-25-30-35 year people), by their inability to keep their word.   I have witnessed first hand, (several times) new management  firing someone for no reason, other than to be able to replace them at a lower hourly rate.   New department managers, are quitting within days, because they've realized what a TOXIC place Derrick Dodge is.   

It was like working in a shooting gallery.   Never knew who was on the chopping block next.  

No job performance reviews.   Broken promises.   Reneging on raises, promotions.    Overtime hours not paid, missed regular hours on paycheques.  NO RESPECT  for their staff.

The new owners/management are from Ontario.   

They have no concept of how the Alberta economy works or how we as Albertan's think.    They have taken an Edmonton and an Alberta business with a great reputation and totally destroyed it because they refused to listen to the people that have been through several economic downturns in Alberta and how Derrick Dodge in the past, has weathered the storm and continued to be successful.  

Derrick Dodge HAD a great reputation in the automotive industry, as a fair employer.   An employer that treated everyone like family. 

The new owners/management style is the complete opposite of the original owners.    The new owners/management is only concerned about one thing....MONEY.  

They do not care how they make it, who they run over, who they destroy in the process.    They do NOT CARE about their employees or the well being of their employees.

Middle management and regular staff turn over is like a revolving door.

This was an excellent place to work - 4 years ago. Since the new owners took over it’s been drastically dropping more and more each year. They’ve gone through 7 internal advisors, 15 service managers, well into the 50’s for service advisors, completely lost all parts staff twice, and 6 parts managers. The owners don’t care who they step on, and they won’t let managers do what is required- they micro manage everything and don’t pay their bills so we can’t buy parts from other dealers or parts places. The owners don’t want to pay what Alberta pays And refuse to pay over time even for hourly people, under the surmise that Ontario Staff get paid less- but this isn’t Ontario!!! This summer they actually fired several staff members who had been there for more 10 years under the excuse of ‘permanent layoffs’ and then the manager who did it realized what a sinking ship he was on and bailed too!

Typical day at work is greet customers at the front desk, organize the appointments for the next day. Attach vips, rewards program points, and maintenance schedule. I check to see if parts are in stock and call to confirm appointments. Do little side jobs for my boss in trying to sell business, offer special promotions. Department doesn't make enough money for anyone to get a raise and certain people don't act properly in a work place. I learned alot about vehicles, mainly trucks because I work at Derrick Dodge Truck Center.

The work was what you can expect I started as a porter then promoted to lube tech and became a service adviser and every time they told me exactly what i would be doing. The people there are what you have to watch out for nobody is looking out for you and the higher up staff is always looking for drama if you try to stay out of it they will try to start some with you. it makes it easy to get promoted because everyone quits but they quit for a reason it's avrage pay but your job security minimal if u don't try to stab others in the back

I worked at this company for a little while and I have never been a part of a company that is so out of touch with what is needed to be successful.  It is eerily quiet most evening and weekends to the point that they should just close the doors.   The owner groups seems to not care about any employee or having a successful store in a market where FCA is thriving.  Instead they like to shoot down all ideas and create processes that don’t work and haven’t worked in the past.  Working here is the definition of insanity.  Doing the same this over and over while expecting a different result. 

I work at Derrick Dodge every summer and winter checking inventory.   The employees are very friendly and helped out with things i wasn't clear about.  The job I do for Derrick Dodge is only about three to six days a year.  But I learned a lot about the company in the short time I am there.  They taught me how to cross reference inventory numbers.  The hardest part of the Job i do is being outside and on my feet for hours.  The most enjoyable part of the job is that you can take it at your own pace.  Again the employees are very friendly as well.

Constantly throwing new people into positions they arent ready for. Working with parts department very frustrating to say the least. Hard to justify high prices to customers because ownership group not from Alberta thinks they can boost prices continuously on things that other places sell for 50%+ less including aftermarket. New staff friendly, some remaining staff not bad but very hard to work with most parts staff. Watch out when applying to service.

Do you love being told to do unreasonable work in unreasonable time frames! Then this is the place for you! Enjoy getting ripped off constantly, mistakes on your pay, and loads and loads of harassment! Just check out the reviews on any site of this place and you'll understand. Scummiest dealership in alberta, with a strong reputation as such.

Made a good paycheck there , typical flat rate shop , guys were tight but a little back stabby , same as anywhere else. Good work coming in , fixed op manager was cheap and wouldn't supply typical shop tools with out a fight. Keep in mind this review is written by someone that hasn't worked there in years and ownership has changed . I know nothing of the new owners or how it works there now.

So much turnover, no organization. Upper management has no idea what they are doing. They have impossible expectations from a sinking ship full of immature people who have no business being in any position of power. It's all about protecting their egos, NOT the customers, and certainly not the employees. The pay structure is terrible, definitely not worth all the stress and chaos and awful atmosphere.
