Detour gold mine

The bus ride up to the camp sucks.The camps are clean and the food was good.Shops were good to work in.But,management is biased to their friends and buddies.If youre not from Kap,Hearst,or Cochrane and if you dont speak french you will be treated like garbage.Very toxic culture,but the pay,bonuses and benefits were really good.

I worked for a company called Dumco at Detour Gold Mine. We were hired to make sure all staff eat rignt and slept in nice and cleaned environment. I really enjoyed my stay there and I thought that it was a pretty good place to work, they are fair with everyone, they treat their employee's with respect, and you got hurt they took very good care of you. I really loved my experience working there.

I get up at 4 a.m if I am on days, and go for breakfast by 5, once that is done we take a bus to my work station where I would either wait for a truck to come in or start on what is there, if there is nothing to do then I would clean my work station. The hardest part of the job is finding something to do while I wait for a truck to come in. Co-workers are ok to work with.The most enjoyable part of the job is the week in and week out.

-safety is always a priority, during toolbox its a fun place to be. you get the opportunity of learning new regulations and its a great time to get to know new employees and employers. The work place is a ground of people from all works of life and its a diversity of different cultures. Management always ensure that we are happy and productive. Our hard word is also recognized and that pushes us to reach for the top and shine.

I worked at the detour mine for 8 months as a millwright. I am thankful that I got out alive. The saftey culture there is behind many of the places that I worked for as an apprentice almost 25 years ago. They seem to promote incompetence. Even the jhsc members were useless.

The meals was pretty bad ... but the pay was good...I only eat breakfast... camp not clean..
Cold bus to travel for work... but good pay cheque...
No call back for HR when you need it...
Supervisor pushed real bad for work done....

Product,,working saferty and make sure am driving in saferty and dangerous place, the most enjoyable part of the job,job done.

Very Poor Management, I have worked in Many Camp Settings and this Experience was the worst by Far.
Too Many People get let go, fired and layed off.  100 employees lose their jobs on a 5 month average.

12 hour days
job had many challenges 
management needed all site cooperation 
ok
away for two weeks at time then long drive home 
plenty of job satisfaction

Management was horrible. Did not care about workers at all. Made promises they did not keep and were extremely inexperienced. It was a revolving door of employees and it’s not hard to see why.
