Direct Buy

A typical day at work was: ring the front door bell, walk in through the show room and clock in VIA sign-in sheet, enter through the double doors near the back into the warehouse, turn on all the lights, unlock all the bay doors, open the office and make sure everything is running right. Pretty typical "open up the business area" kind of stuff. We'd see all sorts of 'member' interaction, albeit we were the guys taking care of their items and making sure they received them in a timely and safe fashion. It'd be me, my best friend and our good friend (whom was our supervisor) all just slaving away with super heavy objects that you wouldn't expect most to bother with.

I think the biggest thing I learned from this job, aside from how not to blow up on an incredibly disagreeable individual who is telling you that everything you've done with your life is WRONG, was that hard work does pay off eventually. Between trying to get through the constant aggravation that management provided with their unprecedented visits to the back and how poorly they would treat us when they came, trying to move around 300lb+ objects and the various other duties we had (such as unloading 50' trucks of all their merchandise)... I gained a lot of strength in my arms and my core, I learned to work through difficult situations and handle even more difficult people and overall how to best present myself to staunch, hot-headed individuals on the whole.

I believe this will facilitate my being a level-headed, understanding and sympathetic (or empathetic) person toward coworkers and customers - or whomever else I may deal with - alike. 

At the end of the day, I enjoyed working here because I was among friends, I was cared for by those people at the very least and I was always lent a helping hand - we were a strong team.

A typical day at Direct Buy entailed coming in to work and making light and positive conversation with fellow employees from other departments of the company before going to my cubicle and logging in to my Hinkles system. I would make outbound and follow up calls to prospects and guests for appointments.

I learned so much about Marketing, Sales, Data Entry, Outbound Calls and even a lot about myself; interpersonal skills, positive attitude, etc. Many of the group and individual training sessions helped me stay on track in terms of my job requirements for the company and bettering myself personally.

My coworkers were a great team to work with and made even the roughest days not too bad to get through; we all tossed each other some positive feedback when we knew someone was in need of it.

The hardest part of the job was being able to follow the very different set of instructions given to me by the upper management team. My team and myself included were frequently given different instructions from each of the upper management personnel and when confusion was expressed and clarity was asked for, the minor situation was dealt with unprofessionally. Most times, these situations made the tension in build in the room and changed the positive environment into one that was no longer focused on our personal and company goals.

The most enjoyable part of the job was always knowing I had really helped someone in need and had a great conversation with them while doing it. It always feels good to have a positive interaction with guests/customers and you know you have helped them in a way they never thought was possible.

Direct Buy is members only home furnishing store. We are the only location in Edmonton so we had clients from all over the province. Basically members could purchase furniture , home appliances and basically anything you would need to furnish and decorate your home. From working there I learned a lot about what goes in to building and furnishing homes and installing everything from windows, doors, custom kitchens etc. The management was okay but they promoted a co worker who was prejudice and would purposely mess up our orders to make herself look good to the owners which was horrible and caused 75% of the staff to quit.The staff otherwise was great we all became a little family and worked great together minus management. A struggle with our location was the business hours was that members from out of town had a hard time completing orders before we would close due to their commute time. A positive benefit I obtained from my employment there was just the knowledge I gained from all of our manufacturers and learned about a lot of different and unique companies.

There was a day when I was looking for an Invoice, which i told to my receptionist to file it, but she did not file and was lying on her desk. Later when i phoned her to email me, the email address of the vendor from the invoice, she phoned the vendor for email address and then came to my cabin and handed a piece of paper saying "This is his email address".

I only learned one thing from my manager, how to back yourself up while you are doing accounting things and if one door is closed how to search for another door.

Management never had any respect for their employees that is the reason in every 2 weeks an employee had to quit.

My co-workers was my manager, she used to encourage me to do right things at right time.

I think when you do all the work on time, and dont keep anything for pending hardest part of the job become easier.

I do not remember much about working at Direct Buy. I remember that it was just not for me. A typical day at work was sitting in front of the computer and calling people trying to sell the company and the products it had to offer. I was essentially a telemarketer and I don't even answer those calls so I didn't really enjoy it all. I liked the cool head set and it was an interesting experience but I wasn't there nearly long enough to really say anything good or bad about it. It's not a job for everybody but if you like reading a script off and selling things then this would be a good job for you.

You either have it or you don't. If you're not motivated to succeed by helping others, this isn't for you. Being myself has never felt so rewarding. 100%
Franchise owners are pro and offer all the tools required to succeed; and incentive bonuses...

Hours were good, good co-workers..... but tele-marketing to the wrong audience, calling and bothering the elderly and unemployed over and over again on a loop and even when they're interested they dont qualify for mailouts. demanding on numbers and comparing people as the same when some are using a general mailing list and some are using a specified mailing list.

As a Nanny of the Owner of this Company, the work is good, and I learned more, especially for cooking and baking. To communicate with their children, I have no problem at all because their kind and respectful. But the hardest part of my job is cooking. the mos enjoyable in this job, is to treat you like no other else, like truly family.

Great organization doing good for people who are looking to save money. Concerned with quality of product and life. Always meeting new people everyday of the job. Various support to the team you work for if sales or support.

Company laid every off in may of 2016 was a high end membership company, started in the USA and also has or had some companies in Canada but not sure how many more are in Canada
