Discount Car Rental

I currently work at a location in Toronto. A typical day is clocking in and discussing with the boss and coworkers about the day (reservations, runs, available vehicles, etc.) Discount frequently rents vehicles to corporate accounts and production companies. If a company is done with the vehicle, they will let your manager know and you will have to go pick it up. This is a run, which is definitely the best part of the job. It turns a regular customer service job into something dynamic. You get to drive around the city dropping off/picking up vehicles, bringing them for oil changes, etc. While the pay is not what it should be, the work experience is good. I get to work with good people, speak with customers, sell insurance and try out different cars. It is definitely a good job to try.

Major responsibilities were to acquire new clients such as new car dealerships body shops etc to and also was managing a staff of 6.Started my day with ensuring that we had enough inventory to accommodate all the reservations. Co-ordinated  with distribution centre with daily requirement Arranged meetings with existing clients to resovle any iisues with our service.spent good part of the week on the road. There  was no such thing as the hardest part of the day had to meet all the challenges which made me stronger.Enjoyable part of the day was to see smiles on the faces of the clients. Dealing with employees was not an issue as I am naturally a people person.

Min wage, no recognition or promotions within, external hire for manager roles more than promote within, overbook and prioritize according to $$$ usually insurance rental above anyone and if between insurance who is the bigger insurance client. Management micro managing, favoritism, etc.

Pay is crummy, management is all over (usually hired externally also), benefits are minimal, overtime is a must usually, no recognition given when due, over booked regularly, etc. 
Nice part was cleaning cars or driving a client so bosses wouldn't be down throat, also nice to clean your own car when on break.

Company does not care about their employees and you will always work short.
No upward movement within the company - even if it is promised to you.
Long hours and no work/life balance
Want you to work overtime but don't want to pay you. You often work through your lunch but they deduct it from your pay anyway.

I've been employed with the company since 2014. Very friendly. Managers are great. Everyone works well together and gets along. They look out for one another and if you need time off it's never a problem.

Job can be very boring when all vehicles are ready to rent and there are no renters. You don't get paid enough for what they put you through. They promise you the world but they don't deliver. Maybe if they got proper management in Thunder Bay it would be a great place to work.

The people I worked with were great but the turn over rate is high. It was fast paced some times but there was a lot of down time. The benefits were a plus with having 2 small kids and myself.

I was working at the Milton Branch. The atmosphere was positive and productive. It's a small staff (four people) and everyone helps each other out. A very positive environment.
