The day begins with checking the list of customers that reserved a rental car/truck. confirming whether or not the customer will be coming in too pick up the vehicle. i would make sure our vehicle inventory is ready to be rented. make sure the oil has been changed, has windsheild washer fluid, and if the car has been cleaned/detailed.

when a customer comes in to take out a rental car, i make sure the customer has a valid drivers license and as well as a major credit card for a security hold. I also make sure that the customer has the proper insurance to be able drive with peace of mind. once those steps are made, I make sure that customer has a vehicle that meets their needs/wants.

the co-workers are hard- working, relatable , fun people who are willing to share their knowlege of the business and how to deal with certain scenerios.

the hardest part of the job is mulitasking. Discount at the dowtown core area is the busiest branch in Ontario. we have to have the skill to handle upwards of 100+ pickups/returns as well as handling phone calls, and making sure our cars are managed well in our parking lot which holds only 60 cars.

the most enjoyable part of the job is dealing with customers of different age groups, ethnicities/ backrounds. you gain a vast amount of knowlege what happens in the city, driving many different types of vehicles common ad luxurious.

Here is the 100% honest truth of what you can expect if you choose working at Discount Car & Truck Rentals as a Customer Service Specialist:

- NO on-the-job training
- Being left alone as early as your first day at work to handle whole branch alone 
- Working 100 hours in a two week period and bringing home a pay cheque of less than $1000.
- Absolutely no raises
- Working 12 hour shifts with no breaks
- Performing managerial duties for a mere $12.02/hour
- Having to deal with not having any available cars because the Operations Manager likes to overbook too much and leaves the Customer Service Specialists to deal with the backlash from customers who have reserved a vehicle
- No professionalism by management
- Poorly skilled management 
- NO weekends off 
- Absolutely NO Work/Life Balance

This is the complete and honest truth about working for Discount. Head Office does not keep in touch with branches to see what's actually going on. They don't realize that the reason their customer service scores are decreasing are because of the poorly run branches and the fact that employees don't care about the company due to the horrible way their treated and paid.  This causes everyone to slack off and not follow rules. Nothing has changed after years of the madness and although they say they're fixing problems they never do.

Job Work/ Life Balance
- If you are single with no responsibilities and no life, this job is for you. If you have a family or any other priority, you will quit, guaranteed.

Salary/Benefits - They don't pay you enough for the work you do. You do much more than you're asked and appreciated much less.

Job Security - They will fire you within a blink of an eye, you will never know when your last day is. I've seen and heard about many MANY people where that was the case.

Management -  It's a joke. I was never trained properly and was left alone to handle a whole store by myself with other newbies. At my time most managers in the territory left, I wonder why.

Job Culture - Rather than working as a team everyone is out to get one another. It's really sad to see what happens and what the environment can cause you and your health.

A typical day at work? Come in early, leave late, be stressed out about cars, have customers yell at you all day long because they have planned a trip and booked a car over a month ago and you are not able to give it to them because it's for a insurance customer or a corporate account.  No one helps you with a car, you can't plan your days or hold onto cars. I can go on and on.. but I hope you get the point!

I have never seen a company treat customers so poorly in my life.
Many times a rental was booked with a customer, using an off shores call center, for vehicles that we didn't regularly keep on our lot.  It was then a scramble to locate that vehicle within the district and offer up a trade with another store in exchange.  But what if you just couldn't follow through with obtaining the vehicle?  Inform the customer and expect to get an ear full.  I don't blame them!
Example : 26' moving truck was rented and couldn't be found for the customer.  The day before the scheduled pick up I was told to call the customer and tell them they were out of luck.  But this customer had to move and had already made arrangements to have people help him.  Now he didn't have his moving truck.
Now for my favorite part of the entire job experience.  The upsell!  But I understand a lot of businesses need to upsell to really make a profit but at Discount it was do or die.  If you couldn't sell the additional warranty coverage you would hear about it.  You would be shamed.  Every one would hear about you not meeting your sales target.  
If you are desperate, and I mean really desperate for work, than by all means work for Discount.  But make it temporary.

I arrived for my first day at the branch only to find out that the only management onsite had quit the week prior to my start date. The employees working had no idea that new employees were coming in and we had to tailgate them their whole shift. We didn't have schedules going into the branch as this was supposed to be what management goes over with us. We were uninformed that there was no onsite management, and therefore had no contacts given to us in the meantime. As far as I could tell, there was no plan in place either. (It had been a week since the manager quit and there was still no onsite management in place, no substitute, no managers from another branch to take over while they figured it out). This made me very uncomfortable for obvious reasons and I got out of there as quickly as possible. I do not recommend this company as there is no organizational skills whatsoever. I was also told the dresscode was strictly business-wear, only to show up and see other employees in jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. Unprofessional, unorganized, head in the clouds kind of company.

Employed in april for the customer care and reservation specialist. LSCC job title. 

worked there for 2 months being bullied and harassed by a co- worker. one year senior and a female called "Yuvonne". 

she bossed around without authority and practically doesn't know how to train employees and take care of their development. 

3 new employees were hired with me, one who cried while training and was harassed but did not quit. 

second, she was human resource employee sister so wasn't messed with. 

third was me who faced the bossing around and treated like a loser. 

I went to the hr and the manager and told them the problem, but the solution they provided was ridiculous. the solution was no communication between the female co worker and me.

no apology or nothing from anybody, i finally quit and they were absolutely fine with it. 

They make you work and expect you to learn everything in 2 days and make no mistakes. if u make mistakes she will again and again compare you with people who they fired in the past. 

i hated it every minute. and honestly, anyone sensible enough would quit.

Discount Car and Truck Rental is an excellent place to gain customer service experience. There is a lot of multi tasking and you are not always doing the same repetitive task throughout the day. This company is a very team oriented/family environment. Every co-worker and management is very supportive of one another. You learn a lot about car rentals and the importance in establishing relationships with customers. If a customer is looking for a rental vehicle, Discount will ensure the car is available to that customer(s). Once you are good at signing contracts and vehicle inspections, you are recognized on your achievements. Plus, there are opportunities  for advancement once you become an expert in your job role. 
Working management, co-workers and customers are the most enjoyable part of the job. And every Friday, the manager buys you lunch. 

Also, you are guaranteed 40 hours of work, with one hour lunch every day.

As a full-time employee, you are required to work 44 hours a week (those hours do not include your break, including breaks- 49 hours per week). You are over worked and underpaid. Biweekly, I can confidently say that I’ve EARNED every penny of my $951 net salary deposited into my bank account. Reservations were always overbooked so there we never enough vehicles to satisfy the reservations. The employees would have to call other locations/territories to borrow vehicles, then have go pick them up leaving 1 employee in the store at the mercy of many angry waiting customers. I suffered tremendous verbal abuse at the hand of many customers. Too many issues to list!

On a lighter note, in the 3 years I worked there, we were so fortunate to have an ice-cream truck in the summer on two separate occasions. We were all granted 1 free treat. 3 years, 2 ice-cream treats.

A typical day at work you have no cars and you have people demanding to be picked up at the same time. 
Most Disorganize Company, zero wage increases, most people that advance never make it past a year. They will fire an employee to make a corporate happy. You get yelled at all the time because often the car that the customer reserved is not available or they have to wait for it. 
Reservation system is terrible and managers often throw employees under the bus when a customer complaints to the head office. 
You work brutal 10 hours a day with only one hour lunch brake and they pay is terrible minimum to deal with Irate customer all day long.
The only thing I learned is how insurance claims works, coverages and how to maintain rental vehicles in good rental condition. 

I will never recommend this company to no one!!

You work from 7am to 6pm on most days. You also work Monday to Saturday, but they reset the pay period on Friday so Saturday is not overtime.
 You will get yelled at by people who have to wait for their rental cars due to cars not being available. You will have to clean cars, and pick up customers as if you are a taxi driver on a regular basis. Which would be no problem, except they advertise it as an office position and expect you to dress as if you work in an office.
 You make 12$ an hour, which is just a little above minimum wage. If you ask the people there at-least 90% will say they are applying elsewhere.
 No one makes money working here, owners (private owned) have a business model setup primarily for their benefit.
 You get to drive different cars at least, and the people there are very laid back/don't stick to the rules etc.
