Discounters Pool & Spa Warehouse

While on probation, I actively engaged in online training sessions and product presentations. It is crucial to acknowledge that termination of employment is a possibility during this period, and the rationales behind such determinations may not always be transparent. My primary emphasis was on acquiring hands-on experience and learning from interactions with colleagues and customers to enhance my comprehension of the company's products.

On certain occasions, I experienced feelings of being undervalued or ignored by some experienced colleagues who exhibited a sense of superiority. It was challenging for me to establish meaningful connections with them, and there seemed to be an implicit pressure to rapidly acquire knowledge, despite the fact that comprehensive learning takes time. The ability to integrate effectively within the team was considered essential for achieving success.

In my role, I was responsible for a variety of tasks including cleaning, restocking, phone inquiries, generating quotes, and utilizing platforms like Shopify, Orderbot, and Zendesk. During slower periods, I took the initiative to conduct individual research to expand my knowledge about the products. The work environment during sales events was fast-paced, with a high volume of customers seeking water tests and pool chemicals. I found the managers to be well-informed about a wide range of products and consistently supportive of my learning process

Once employees complete the three-month probation period, they become eligible for benefits. The weekly schedule may vary, with the number of days off changing on a week-to-week basis. The management team strives to allocate sufficient hours to both full-time and part-time employees, though workload adjustments may occur due to seasonal fluctuations.

One of the notable challenges I faced in my role was the manual unloading of stacked skids. Another difficulty was handling customer dissatisfaction and offensive gestures when dealing with product discontinuation. However, the managers were supportive and would intervene to manage escalated interactions and provide assistance to their employees.

In summary, my overall experience at the company had its ups and downs. I appreciated the opportunities for personal growth and the support provided. However, my satisfaction, performance, and mindset were influenced by colleagues who displayed a superiority complex and the uncertainties that came with the probationary period. In order to succeed in this environment, adaptability and effective collaboration with colleagues are crucial.

Working at Discounters Pool and Spa Warehouse was an amazing experience.  Id prefer to have had a more suitable job title to my experiences and skills, as opposed to being a store clerk, where my responsibilities included restocking product, re-filling chlorine containers and cleaning hottubs on display.  We rarely ever saw the management team, because they were in the office unless an issue occurred, or a customer requested their presence.  My co-workers seemed impressed with their work standard, when I saw need for some serious improvement.  The hardest part of the job was getting used to working with your co-workers, whom wouldn't help if we asked for it, they would only assist you if they were told to from management.  The most enjoyable part of the job was helping the customers, because otherwise you had no one to talk to, and you would bend over backwards to help them.

An amazing place to work with friendly staff and customers, typically at work you will be asked to do heavy lifting, work on cash, perform water tests for customers explain chemical balance, fill chlorine containers for customers, assist customers in finding replacement parts. I've learned so much from working there and the only reason I have decided to look for other employment is a desire to learn new things.

At first, I started off at Discounter's as just a helping hand in the back (filling chlorine jugs for pools). But after getting to know my role, the staff, and management taking a liking to me, I began to get more responsibility and even had some experience as a cashier at times.

This place is not professional they underpay staff for what they require of them. Very greedy company they dont treat their employees fairly. They need more training, higher pay, and to get someone else to clean their toilets.

A very fun summer job with lots of hours available. Great environment, very positive and friendly place to be. There are times/weeks that are very busy and times that are quiet given the nature of the business. Overall, learned a lot and gain tons of customer service and cashier experience.

Yet another company working with skeleton staff and claiming "people don't want to work anymore". 

Training is non existent. Promises are made by management that they have no intention of keeping. 

Safety is a major issue and not taken seriously. The owning company is greedy and the management is terrible. 



Working at discounters was a very stressful experience from  start to end. Very limited training and poor management. I was often left to work in the store by myself while the manager runs personal errands for most of the work day.

Amazing management. The managers are extremely understanding and hardworking. It’s a fun, fast paced environment throughout the summer. You have the ability to get full-time hours and commission on certain products.

I have enjoyed my 7 weeks there. Its a great summer job. You learn lots of things. You do have to fill liiqud chlorine containers. If you dont like the smell of pool chemicals. This probably is not the place for you. Overalll great place to work.
