A typical day on the phones would consist of taking calls, providing clarification on bills, sales, account management, assisting it with customer inquiries, up-selling, transferring customers to the correct department depending on the request. Once in the provisioning department, I would perform modem swaps, submit orders, reschedule appointments, complete work items (work sent to us by agents on the phone), sign the mail manifest every day, send out return labels. I had great co-workers who I looked forward to working with every day. The hardest part of the job on the phones was being empathetic opposed to sympathetic; something I learned to control once in provisioning quite well. Also, accepting structural changes that impacted the staff negatively. The most enjoyable parts of the job to me were the learning process, and the people I worked with. They made my experience that much better.

Each day there was a sales goal to strive towards and tons of clients to try and save from dropping the companies services, never a dull day. I learned that you cannot always rely on management to do the right thing for the company or the client which resulted in many customers being lost because of laziness on behalf of the floor managers not wanting to put an extra two minutes to retain an irate client. The coworkers were great and helped each other excel and get through difficult situations. The most difficult part of the job was deciding when to adhere to the managements lack of care for their own company, yet the best part of the job was the relationship between the employees as a whole and setting your own work schedule for each week.

I have been with Distributel going on three years now, and it's been a great journey. It's very easy to make your voice heard, and if you have good ideas, you absolutely can lead them to fruition: very intrapreneurial spirit. 

People work hard, we all have many projects on the go and interesting challenges, but at the same time, they truly value flexibility and work-life balance; so it' not just a writing on the wall, the balance really is there.

If you are looking to join a growing organization with great values and a dynamic social life, you should seriously consider Distributel.

In many ways Distributel is innovative and thinks outside the box in terms of it approach within the industry and has some very good people as part of their team.They encourage out of the box thinking in their development team. Unfortunately, they struggle in doing the right thing by their staff. Although they claim that their salaries and benefits are within the average within the industry, the benefits are limited. The management and support of staff is lacking, with often "surprise" retrenching of staff and poor performance discussions

They started outsourcing to a call center in Egypt and will probably phase out the Montreal call center in the near future. They are headquartered in Ottawa, hence employees in Montreal are dispensable.

When you are new they give you the worst schedule i.e: finishing at midnight then making you work at 9 am the next day.

Get ready to talk to really angry clients because the after sale service is really bad; clients often have to wait 20-30 mins to get an agent on the line.

Also, if you stay silent for more then 1 min on the phone with a client Quality Assurance management will go down hard on you.

Met some nice people while there, it was the only good thing about working at Distributel.

It is a very busy call centre with a lot of changes as it is an up and coming company in the telecommunications industry. Learned quite a few skills including the quality auditing aspect of a call centre and how to implement new processes and procedures. As team leader, I was able to upgrade ky skills in learning how to motivate and lead a team of agents to be succesful in their career as a customer service representative. The best part of working there were the people and working with the agents on a day to day basis. It is rewarding to see an agent succeed due to your leadership and coaching. That was the most enjoyable part of the job.

I spent years at the company, and was one of the few people that was able to move up in that period of time that was not laid off. The main reason I left was for a job doing basically the same thing, but with a $12 000 per year pay raise with better benefits.

The management got better before I left, but nepotism had always been key within the organization. It was always about who you knew and not what you knew.

It was also getting clear that a lot of jobs were being shipped overseas or otherwise outsourced, so the culture took a big hit, with nobody feeling secure in their position.

In a typical day at Distributel you will be one of the one to five total people in any given department, meaning the wait time on hold for your customers will have been between 12 and 150 minutes no matter the time of day or day of the week.

Seriously.

In the event that you are the only person who came to work, a grand total of zero supervisors will thank you, or even mention the fact you were the only person available to take customer calls for a company that has sub par internet and telephone service is four Canadian provinces.

Do not work for Distributel, do not subscribe to their service and forget you ever heard the company name.

Distributel is a great place to work for those who excel at customer service and can handle a fast-pace environment. 
The call center offers many challenging opportunities and a social and casual atmosphere. Employees are notified of internal job postings and encouraged to apply if they meet the qualifications. 
Like most employers, there is a strong emphasis on punctuality however many departments offer flexible working hours and the ladder of seniority can be escalated quickly.

I learned a lot in my time at Distributel. I was given the position of technical support agent. I had no qualifications in this area and therefore taught myself how to do job and learned every aspect of the job. I did so well that they promoted me to team leader. The hardest part of the job was learning something i had no experience in whatsoever. The best part of the job was leading a team of agents to do their best and be successful in their career. Leading was most fulfilling especially when telling my agents i had learned the job frim scratch and if I could do it, so could they.
