Diva salon and Spa

Spending 20k to get an education and then starting making minimum wage, never getting full time hours because you're the first cut when it's slow, no respect for employees work life balance at all. Employees have to beg for a single Saturday off. When you tell the management you can't do a specific shift change and they give it to you every week anyway. Very little understanding that people have families and lives and can't work every evening and weekend. 

The pros, they don't make a big stink when you're sick and encourage staying home when you're not well. The other stylists are amazing and you can learn a lot. The environment can be a lot of fun. If you can afford to work for minimum wage and don't care about work life balance, everything else isn't too bad. 

The company is technically "family owned" but it might as well be a giant corporation when it comes to the policies and elimination of individuality among staff. Staff are instructed to talk to customers in a "Disney Princess" voice. I was reprimanded for not wearing enough makeup, and staff are forced to wear only black. 

Receptionists are forced to stand for their entire shift, and get in trouble for leaning. 
They also force you to pay for "mandatory" classes that are mostly about branding, even if you are just working reception.

There was bad management at the south centre location for a long time - unsure if she is still there. 

Overall, Diva is a great place to work. You learn A LOT. The staff is super friendly, and the management is professional. They have a lot of walk-in traffic, which keeps you busy. Also very easy to establish a clientele. I would still be working for Diva if I didn't move cities! I highly recommend this salon if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced and knowledgable environment. Bonus, they have a spa and are an Aveda salon. You get education benefits you get to travel plus an awesome discount!

Everything, staff morale, management, very low pay, catty staff, no bookings, coming into work later if not booked

No booking huge breaks not by choice

I worked for Diva for about 2 ½ years, the entire time of my employment was very stressful. They put allot of responsibility on you to do everything.. Yet only paid me the bare minimum. There was lots of drama, which was never felt with in a proper manner. It was a very upsetting first job into the world of hair. I would not recommend this salon to anyone.

Loved the coworkers!!!! Had amazing frontline staff!!! 

Management was not good, it felt like very hostile place some days

Tips are nice and clients are mostly old people

They are firm believers if furthering your education, which is great, but they don't help you. They constantly berate you to take more classes, and they're expensive. Especially if you're just out of school. The management love to gossip between each other and they are belittling and cliquey. Not a fun environment to be in. hey made me feel so poorly I never want to do hair again. 

worked here and was super committed to having long term employment however when in a review i asked for a raise and was told no - also i dont like family owned,  bossy management that are all family and they are only nice to u if u suck up

The management truly cares about your wellbeing. They are always supportive of taking time off to recharge, and having a good balance. The staff really care about their clients, so it creates an amazing atmosphere to work in. Plus everyone is like family, so even when you're having a bad day, it's not hard to be at work.

Whatever I said will not be enough. I love my job I love the management’s, best company you can work with.I have   the best support education, there always there for me to help me with whatever I need in work or personal life. I never feel it’s a work place no. it’s my second family they care about all of us.
