A typical day of work at the Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre was greeting clients, answering phone calls and client inquires, scheduling appointments, prepping for upcoming appointments. I learned so much being a student placement at this organization. Some of which included: having to draw the line between empathy and sympathy, how to write case notes, how to conduct interviews, and how to interact with clients who were going through their rough stages. Management and co-workers made working at this organization relaxing and comfortable, they were able to help me without any hesistation and lead me through any procedure step by step. The hardest part of this job would be having to deal with clients and their stressful situations, having to tell them if they were not eligible for our assistance program. However the most enjoyable part of this job was being able to help clients who desperately needed the assistance and being told that I made a difference in their lives.

• Implemented cost avoidance project for extending life of 50 computers saving approximately $25,000
• Applied process to minimize business downtime for any PCs’ failure and issues
• Executed entire network system and responded to user queries to avoid delays in daily activities
• Played the main role in producing error-free systems
• Controlled Administrative and Security access for employees’ system for downloading and installation
• Developed and implemented new techniques for analyzing systems
• Arranged training for users in accordance with their application software and hardware
• Performed maintenance on Laptops and Desktops; installed software packages to cut down on manual workload
• Organized on-line operating systems in a smooth path through all networks to maintain proper accessibility
• Provided latest technical and logical ideas to execute existing jobs in a less time consuming manner

we know that people volunteer for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others. But it’s also OK to recognize the personal benefits of volunteering. There is a misunderstanding that the true spirit of volunteering prevents a volunteer from receiving something back for the experience. There are essential rewards a volunteer will also enjoy like skill development and friendship. Instead of considering volunteering as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, begin to think of it as a way of giving back to your community. Most people find themselves in need at some point in their lives and have benefited from someone else’s volunteer effort. Adding your effort to the work of others makes everyone’s life better.

Working at Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre was a great experience for me as I learned how to deal with a work crises and learning how to professionally address issues with co-workers using the triangle method. The most difficult part of the job was dealing with aggressive clients who would take you out of your comfort zone but overall it was enjoyable due to making a difference in people's lives.

Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre is a great place to work or volunteer and could be a life changing opportunity for people who would like to achieve a great career. I am really enjoying my placement here and learning and getting practical experience in HR field. The management is very professional, supportive, friendly, efficient  and shows great leadership and truly cares about helping people. Also, DBNC is appreciating diversity and inclusion at workplace.

I really enjoyed doing my college placement at Dixie Bloor. It gave me the opportunity to grow in my choice of study and learn so many things about working in an agency. 

My day-to-day usually consisted of working in their LEAP office and doing interviews with clients as well as other administrative responsibilities. 

They gave me the skills and confidence in order to move forward in my future path of study.

DBNC is a terrific place to work for people who want to make a difference in their community. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is working with the volunteers and collaborating with other people on special projects.

I have been impressed by the staff perks like PD days, appreciation parties, pot lucks etc.we really have fun at work

A typical day involved planning activites and snack for the toddlers who attend. The children would interact with their caregivers and at times with the resource workers. When asked for resources we would look them up and supply it to the participant.

The most enjoyable part is working and getting to know the different family units. Observing and seeing how each culture is with their child.

Bullies and power hungry management. Staff has cliques and treat one like an outsider if they don't 'take' to one. Racism and poor treatment of (some) female employees is a norm. Contracts are a way of keeping one in line and threats and pressure are covertly applied to force conformity to the culture of no confidentiality!
