Domus Building Cleaning

Overall, one of the better cleaning companies in Ottawa. Management cares about the health, safety, and well being of their employees. Company provides lunches on training days and other special occasions. Domus is very flexible with work locations, providing the opportunity to move throughout Ottawa (East/West/Downtown), especially if you are able to get a security clearance (reliability or higher). Work tasks are very standard for cleaning - a bit repetitive and laborious - however it is overall a reasonable job. I would recommend working for this company if you have good work ethic and enjoy the cleaning industry.

Overall, this company provided me with the foot in the door I needed to learn and grow as a professional. The motto here is baptism by fire - learn by doing. Very old school team, from management to front line staff, that likes things done only in a certain way. Lots of improvement to be made in modernizing and adapting to the pandemic world. Pay is much below capital region average, but this is in exchange for the flexibility you are given to learn and grow independently. 

What I liked about Domus Building Cleaning is that every week we had a meeting on products we used to clean and we were tested. Management was always there to help out and we all worked has a team. I've learned a lot about paying attention to details and that the clients we had came first. Domus building cleaning has been around for the last 53 years and always expending. There #1 priority is the clients. I enjoyed my job very much but unfortunately I never felt that there was any type of advancement. I would recommend this job to students.

They will give you a lot of work and pay you maybe 30 minutes extra if you asked them politely. Management team is terrible. No communication. No special treats or rewards or free lunches. They want more from you . Working hours between 7-11 hours no extra pays. No even a please or thank you. Feel like if you were in prison. Will not recommend them to anyone.  Christmas bonus is half of what you are supposed to receive from.

Job is easy, but you get treated poorly by the clients. Been yelled at multiple times for super small stuff. They don't care how far you have to travel and job posting I signed up for was $20/hour and then they put me in a place for minimum wage across the city with no per diem

The actual people at Domus are cool but the clients are awful and they dont pay well

Even during COVID-19 most buildings remained open and stable - permanent work was available. Employees given option to stay home and self isolate if they wished, and keep their job for when they come back. Most employees clean the same building and do similar tasks everyday. Management can be strict, depending on what building you work at.

The supervisor is not reporting some people when they are absent, and you have to do additional work. You end up doing extra work for them even though they are absent, and they still get paid.

Poor communication between every level. Depending where you are, unrealistic workload for one person. Too much to do alone in a short amount of time, with trying to be perfect so you don’t get complaints
