Dumas Overhaul shop Timmins, Mechanics with skills are stressed out, high turn over, we have to pace yourselves not to burn us out by the end of day, yes we work only four days a week but it takes a whole day off just to recuperate, also some employees show up at work under the influence, it is brought to shop supervisor many times and still nothing is done and one of these persons were given spare supervisor position. It is like the fox watching over the hen house. Shop moral is very low and upper management thinks by paying higher wages will help the poor situations. I hope this helps anyone wanting to work for Dumas. 

A typical day at work is mostly rebuilding equipment for Dumas sites. This building is the maintenance shop of the company and all the equipment goes through this shop. I learn a significant amount depending on the task that I'm doing. The place has been under negative management issues for the past year and is making the shop unorganised. I like my co-workers and everyone works great together and as a team. The hardest part of the job has been of late. It's been very dead since the price of gold dropped and makes for long days with minimal work. But the thing I like the most is learning new things and progressing in the trade.

Dumas is a strong and capable company to work for. Very professional. The things that make it good are the people whom you work with. If your supervisor is a calm and respectable it will filter down to the men and women whom you work with. If the supervisor is  aggressive and intolerable the negatives will flow down the line and affect the outcome of production and safety.

Ive always found dumas has had big contracts where they can keep most employees on for long periods I dont see them doing much raise work anymore I have also noticed more out of country work on the job site I think in my opinion that Dumas contracting is going to be one of the main contractors that you will see for alot more years to come

Management needs to keep employees informed of when contracts are starting and finishing. The also need to keep local employees employed instead of catering to those that are from out of the area. They do not offer any training courses to trade workers. This employer does however offer good benifits and pay into an RRSP. Most contracts they have offer a 5-5-4 schedule which is great for spending time with family.
The major downside is that it is a contractor and you could be working one day and unemployed the next.

Typical day started @ 5:00 am & provided Driving layout for Underground Development for daily shifts & provided updated drawings. I learned that every day was a different environment due to underground conditions. Worked well with fellow Employee's & Staff, hardest part of the job was finding a window of time to preform my duties due to equipment, most enjoyable part of job was the camaraderie & the final result.

Your only as good to them until they have family friend or a conected person needs a job then they just look for reasons to fire someone to make a vacancy for someone back home in Timmins Ontario they ask for manditory ontario common core for hiring criteria and if you get terminated no investigation to representation  or even a safety rep to defend your.  Your pay stubs never show up saposed to be emailed to you .

Well organized proper supply for the job

Great atmosphere, lots of support, all the tools required. Great camp and staff. Supervisor and all support staff worked hard to help you succeed and be safe doing it. As a lead hand on an ungrounded facility build I was totally impressed and happy to give 110% every day.

Management has very little experience mining. Management treats there employees very poorly. If the management changed it would run more efficiently. The management has no experience so they basically have to re-work iobs at least 2 - 4 times before they get it right, but if they weren't so arrogant and listened to the miners doing the job they would see they would be further ahead but they don't.
