I have had the privilege of working as a Software Engineer at Desjardins for the past two years, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The company's commitment to innovation, employee growth, and work-life balance is unparalleled, making it a great place to work.

Quickly learned why people avoid opportunities at start ups. Seek opportunities on a corporate level. Was hired at a new independent agency in the Kanata, Ottawa ON area last year, and it was downhill from there. First impressions of the owner were that he was friendly and approachable, as most narcissists are. Owner was a pathological liar, lied and inflated prior experience, perpetually lied to customers. Unethically tweaked rating information when quoting clients to offer favorable quotes. Would set high targets/ expectations (which is fine) with no course of action and no provided training. It was like working for the 'Michael Scott' character from 'The office', but with even less favorable/ redeemable qualities. Not a bad person, but poor leader with weird complexes. As an example, he would berate and yell at his wife on many occasions in front of everyone in the office when she would visit.He had this rage that would never match the crime in question. Held every perceivable thing he was supposed to do as Manager over my head. Would talk about himself on end, repeating the same story over and over again, constantly distracting employees from getting any work done, seeking validation and awe. This is how he was caught in many lies. Salary was trash for work expectation, and there was no structure, or work life balance. Poor communication, constant gas lighting, cowardly passive aggressive approach to enforcing changes. He would constantly cut people off when they were talking (including customers) to pivot the conversation back to himself. The day before I intended to quit, I sent my work email my resignation letter and cleared out my desk. That's how excited I was to leave. The following morning he called me to fire me. All to save face with higher ups at Desjardins. This worked to my advantage, because I didn't know how I was going to face another 2 weeks there. To top things off, I sat in front of a colleague that had poor feminine hygiene. So much so I could smell her from my office with the door closed. My list of complaints goes on but this is enough. I was not the perfect employee, but it got harder and harder for me to pridefully represent the company as my disdain grew. Worst JOB I'VE EVER HAD.  I swore off insurance after working here, but now work for a fantastic company.  Bon Débarras !!!

The company is very good to the employees very confortable to make objectives La Risturne helps  opening of accounts and clients leave happy Desjardins is very competitive with all Banks and we can offer all products Desjardins Insurance helps clients that have multiple Service which clients get a healthy discount  I loved working for Desjardins gave me the opportunity of being a great supervisor by gaving my feedbacks and asked me for my advice Desjardins gave me the opportunity to have meetings once a day a power meeting and once a week get feedbacks from my employees and situations that accrued that week Desjardins is a great company to work for 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Would probably be make sure when employees choose vacations that I have replacements employees call in sick try to get an agency besides that nothing that I can not handle 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
environment is very positive and  I worked at Canadienne Italienne so the Italian Culture was intergrated  automatically was nice 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arriving very early making coffee for myself and the rest of my colleagues take a look at all my e-mails risponcing them check my appointments  if it’s the day to order money for my ATM well I would order I would do my inspection  for the branch wait  until my employees arrive when I first arrive  open the door do the inspection and put an article so when the other employee rings sees the article knows that all is good  when my employees arrives we go verify how much money I. The ATM if we need to put money or not open the vault get organized have a power meeting to start our day meet with my clients in my office for open an account or solve clients situations breaks and lunches do coaching look threw cashiers portfolio to see if any help is needed for each for sales 4 o clock branch is closed they balance I will do a spot. Check if all is good close the vault inspect the branch and close the branch with the key

Each agent you work for is a different employer and doesn't necessarily reflect what it's like to work for Desjardins broadly. I worked for a Kitchener agent. 
The job is stable, the pay consistent (salary, decent benefits, plus any commissions that you work out with the agent you work for) and consists mostly of fielding phone calls from clients and potential clients. Daily tasks include processing changes on their backwards glitch-heavy computer system (which looks like it was designed in '95 and then literally never updated, because it was built by people who never have to use it) and following up when people do quotes online, answering questions from current clients, and explaining the documents that get mailed to everybody. 
Upper management, in the head office, tends to be receptive to critique and questions IF you get ahold of the right person. While at the same time they drag their feet to actually implement changes that help you when you're on the floor working with clients. You'd think they'd want our job to be easier! But no.
Office politics rule the roost no matter what, that much is very clear. No matter which agent you go to or where you go.
Lots of training options to keep your knowledge on par with the broader industry. Technically there's plenty of space to grow and be promoted but, again, office politics.

A typical day at work consists of mainly customer service, and procedural jobs at specific times of the day, in which I managed very well and loved being busy at work. I've learned about many financial products and customer service interaction. Management is there for any information needed in order to properly inform customers and designate jobs between co-workers also making us feel part of the team as there were weekly meetings to attend for information purposes and to ensure every employee follows the same procedures. The hardest part of the job is Selling, must inform customers of products and the raise and bonus depends on how many products are positively attained by customers by my reference, this is a weak area for me and strongly dislike pushing products on the people. The most enjoyable part of the job is the amount of responsibility posed upon me to ensure certain tasks are being done properly and on time, many of which were delegated to me knowing the work load I could handle, examples: preparing hundreds of letters to customers about info on their accounts. receptionists replacement during luches, booking appointments, answering telephones, fundraising projects, montly sumarry for manager, involved in the fun commitee, preparing the clearing of checks for at specific time, balancing the atm room, and many more things.

Used to be a fun respectable company to work for, however recent management has slowly stripped away all the perks of the job. Used to be a place where you'd show up to work and actually enjoy being there, it did not have that call centre feel to it and the culture was great. It only took but a few from upper management to swiftly bring in change, change which resulted in less chance for bonuses, less chance to move up, less chance for true opportunity unless you are OK with taking on more responsibility with little to no proper compensation in return. 

The company is very driven to ensure their employees are not compensated for roles which are deemed higher in nature within the Insurance world, instead they praise and promote them as Lateral moves. 

No different than any other run of the mill call centre. Thus Workplace culture is non existent. 

When it comes to employee engagement, incompetence runs rampant within the management team. 

Worst part of the job is meeting or exceeding your sales targets and not qualifying for a bonus because customer's did not give you a score of 9/10 out of 10. Or because you did not receive enough customer surveys for the month. 

When Management pushes their employees to read the book "Who Moved my Cheese" you have an understanding of how they run the show. Sit down shut up do your job don't ask questions don't complain it is what it is be happy to have a job.

Although Desjardins has great rewards in terms of overall benefits, it is polluted by a stinky smog of politics and defensive strategies culture.  If you're a political beast, you'll be delighted.  If not then, don't go there.  There is no advancement for you, if trying to change mentalities you'll be greeted by great smiles and no support for your actions.  Management staff suffers from in-breeding as it comes from an insider "culture".  Management staff does not hesitate at nepotic manoeuvers to get the backup they need : their long-time friends or ex-colleagues get hired easily and there is a questionable ethics on that matter.  There are no professionnal managers in the lower stages - most of them could not do the work their staff works on.  It's all staff that's been laying around for 10 years or more in the shop and that gets promoted - uncritical for the most part of it as shown by the brown they have on their nose.  Having worked there for a good part of their life, they have a limited experience of the outside world rules and best practices, so they're unable to get things organized efficiently.  As far as what I learned, is how inefficient an organisation can be when having access to unlimited capital.

High turnover, monotonous, stressful environment, no balance between incoming call takers and those that work as claims advisors, leaving it all to P1 handlers to work.Micromanaged day to day activity, emails calls, what you click and browse. Not enough incentive to work here as the pay is just not worth the constant stress of having to stay on top of your things. On calls for up to 6 hrs, 4 days a week with one day to work your files.Overtime work is required to stay afloat with no overtime pay. Your schedule is made for you and you have to abide by it and maintain your stats. Taking vacation gets blocked at times as they can’t have you taking vacation during peak season and will have you withdraw. It’s working a call centre job, customer service is all that’s really expected for any recognition, which is not hard to attain as they provide you with the script on how to achieve the most success, but it comes at a cost of working overtime after hours without overtime pay. If I was getting paid overtime to work my files I would reconsider the role. But no overtime pay is provided. Bonuses are given after Christmas and getting over consistent performance is also very unlikely.  

A horrible environment, repetitive tasks with no sense of accomplishment and a nonstop cycle of new claims. Employees are regularly asked for feedback which is then ignored. The department is so conservative and hostile to new ideas, and management treats their employees with total disregard. Expect to be micromanaged in every single thing you do, every second of the day. The salary and benefits might seem appealing at first, but they never mention all of the unpaid overtime you will be forced to do. There is no work-life balance at all, and you are expected to work almost all of the statutory holidays as well as evenings and weekends. Your schedule is set up without your consent and they count every minute of your day and how you spend it.  Managers have no respect for their employees and no problem overworking them until they quit or end up on disability leave. Customers and coworkers can treat you horribly and management just laughs it off. Favoritism and nepotism are the only ways to get beyond the advisor position, but there are so many layers that most people quit after a year or so. The culture is so toxic with its forced positivity, everyone is unhappy but is too afraid to say anything for fear of being fired. Older employees are overlooked and undervalued, and the company does not value loyalty at all.

I would deal with insured policy holders who had been recently involved in a collision or property loss, documenting full details of the loss and logging a legal statement regarding the claim. Within 1 week of training I was proficient in policies, liability, repair procedures and all suppliers revolving around collisions. Management would keep a close eye on employees and all calls were recorded and randomly audited. While each person would handle their claims separately, it was almost a team environment due to associates taking calls in a general phone queue, and assisting the insured policyholders or business suppliers with the claim in question. Dealing with customers and reassuring them of coverage, liability, and property damage was challenging, but made for a great learning experience. Setting up a claim with a stressed insured who had been involved in a serious crash with injuries, watching it proceed seamlessly with my help (towing, rental vehicle, repairs, physical therapy) and then observing as the claim was closed with a satisfied client, was the most rewarding part of the job.
