In my experience, this workplace has several challenges that impact both employees and residents. Management’s communication and approach to staff support could be significantly improved. Employees often struggle to receive proper accommodations, and there seems to be inconsistency in how accommodations are provided. Some staff members who require modified duties may not receive the necessary support, while others who do not need modifications may receive preferential treatment.

Payroll inconsistencies are another major concern. Employees frequently experience errors in their pay, leading to frustration and financial strain. In some cases, new hires have started working without their banking information being collected in a timely manner, resulting in delays in receiving their wages. This creates a stressful situation, as employees are left waiting for payment while continuing to work.

The union representation at this workplace does not always seem effective in addressing employee concerns. Since union representatives work in the same building as management, there appears to be reluctance in advocating for employees when issues arise. This leaves many workers feeling unsupported when they need assistance.

Staffing shortages are a persistent issue, which directly affects the level of care provided to residents. When there are not enough employees on shift, the workload increases significantly, making it difficult to maintain a high standard of care. This can place staff under immense pressure, and there may be instances where employees feel overworked without adequate support. Additionally, when employees face challenging situations, such as workplace conflicts or difficult interactions with residents, there may not always be a clear or effective process in place to address these concerns.

The staffing and scheduling system is another area that could be improved. Despite having a team dedicated to handling schedules, employees often encounter difficulties when trying to communicate with staffing. There have been instances where calls are not answered, or employees feel dismissed when seeking assistance. A notice outside the staffing office states that employees are not allowed to enter, and even when knocking repeatedly, there have been reports of the door being locked without any response.

Workplace security, particularly on weekends, is another concern. During these times, there is no receptionist or security personnel at the front entrance, raising questions about overall building security. Visitors have been observed entering the facility without proper oversight, which may pose a potential safety risk.

Overall, this workplace could benefit from improvements in management communication, payroll consistency, employee support, staffing organization, and security measures. Addressing these concerns could help create a more structured, supportive, and secure working environment for employees and a better care experience for residents.


As a PSW you are the one to wake the residents up to get them ready to head down for breakfast, after breakfast you would return the residents to their rooms or seat them in the lounge. You will then bring the residents back into the dining room for lunch to be served to them, after lunch you will return the residents to their rooms change there briefs if needed and either put them into bed or back into their chairs, or send them on their way with their walkers. 

Management seems to be changing a lot around there lately but they are trying their best to make sure the residents get the care they need. The co-workers there are all very fun and easy to work with, most of us get along great together. 

The hardest part of the job is saying goodbye to a resident, they become like family to you. Another would be if a resident becomes a little aggressive, but we are trained on how to handle that type of situation so it very rarely happens.

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that you have helped others that may not be able to help themselves anymore. The feeling you get when the residents families thank you for taking care of their loved ones is so rewarding.

- Working short staffed while trying to get every resident up for breakfast, lunch and supper. You get less than 7 minutes to provide care to each assigned resident.

- Management is the biggest problem. They treat you like you are worthless, make you feel less than human, and have their favourites. If you do something wrong they will blame it on you and ask you what you could have done differently. The only time you see them out of their office and helping is when the Ministry is in.

- For the most part there are some amazing people that work there but you will get your cliques and a lot of two faced people. Sometimes it's worse then high school.

Summer student position where I was underpaid to perform the same tasks as certified health care aides. I learned about the politics of health care and how frustrating it can be. Co-workers were not the friendliest but some were helpful with work. Hardest part of the job was the physical labor and the time limitations to get all your work done. Most enjoyable part of the job was working with the elderly and building relationships with them as well as obtaining experience in the health care industry.

Typical day at work included waking up residents in the morning, performing am care, helping feed in dining room for breakfast and lunch, putting residents to bed for a mid-afternoon nap, repeating the process for hs routine. performing required baths for each day of the week.

Toxic environment. The management uses gaslighting and bullying to intimidate any worker that stands up for their rights.

A typical day is enjoyable and exciting. A great place to work. Most days co-workers are fun to be with and have good conversations. The work is hard. If you keep your nose clean and do your work nobody seems to bother you. But, like most places, gossip is the worst.

co- workers were great for the most part. The front line staff that work here truly care about what they do , and will do everything humanly possible to see to the comfort and well being of those in their care . A truly wonderful and vibrant variety of staff to work with here .  Administration need to work on their communication skills as well as learn to be more empathetic towards their staff.

This is second home to me. Residents are treated with dignity and respect. Co workers are always helpful whether you are a part timer or an alternative worker, like plan A. We always help. Great team work and always looking forward going to work.

I just wish we were paid a little bit kore with the responsibilities on our shoulders, we need a much higher pay.

Busy busy busy, all the time. Prioritize & do everything you possibly can, for the comfort of those needing you. Never waste time gossiping, spare minutes for talking should be directed to the residents needs.
