There is a lot I can say about this job from being in middle management. But as long as you work in the store level you will always find this an entry level job. For cashier and sales they don't believe in full time so your looking at 10 min to maybe 30 hours if your luckily. Average would be 15 - 19 hours a week. 

Sales associates: 
Are asked to do too much they are customer service, sales, lost prevention, cleaning, pricing merchandising and more. It great to learn all this but at min. wage its a lot for the job. 

Cashiers:
it's min wage you have to deal with customers and handle money a normal cash job. The point of sales they use is backwards and out dated making the job that much more annoying 

Management:
Well I have read the ones before saying how Management doesn't have staff back on policies and such for return it is cause HO doesn't have the managers back and if we don't pretty much give the customer what they want  HO gets mad at us. we get approval from HO to break policy I don't understand why they even have them if they are not going to follow them. As a management job you are over worked for a disrespectful amount of pay with no benefits. Again this is an entry level management position and if you looking to gain management experience it worth at least to add to your resume but if you have experience in management stay clear. 

Side fun info: if you Management for three years and they hire someone tomorrow they get paid the same. 

so no reviews or pay increases nothing to motivate you. Besides bonus you might make based off the unrealistic sale goals given by HO 

Speaking of HO my view from store level is they are not organized and don't communicate to one another and they have too many people are different hats to do a job effectively. How they spend money doesn't make sense with even common sense.

Make sure that you take some time and really go through the kinds of products that this store sells. Selling to customers can be a bit on the harder side because a good portion of the products are refurbished and can have a rough outer shell. 

The management doesn't have you back when it comes to terrible customers being extremely rude because they cannot have what they want. Nor do the managers really have any power themselves which is not something that makes a store productive in nature when the managers themselves constantly have to ask the head office what they can and can't do with a return.

When it comes to working here the customer isn't always right. Instead of just helping the customer to be happier with another product employees are expected to inspect the item and make sure that it truly doesn't work. This makes the employee and the customer embarrassed. The return policy is one that is unlike any other in the retail industry. A similar store called "treasure hunt" which is a store similar to this one in the respect of selling open boxed and refurbished items OFFERS REFUNDS within a select number of days. The only thing that you can do when a customer is angry is to direct them to a manager while they take their frustrations out on you because they are upset with a bad product and they CAN'T get their money back because the return policy doesn't allow for it. 

The stress of the customers coupled with the stress of having to work multiple jobs at once while still being expected to serve the customers while at the same time. If you are only looking to work here part-time or to gain experience on the harsh realities and learning curves of the refurbished section of retail this is a great place to gain that level of punishment and learning experience.

Depends at which Factory Direct location you work but management expects you to be an all-around employee (cashier/sales associate/customer service) which sucks because you're only getting minimum wage. Typical day includes helping out customers and cashing them out, keeping shelves neat and tidy, restocking products, picking out items for the online orders from Factory Direct website, putting up prices and changing the sale prices, and putting out products on the sales floor from shipment which comes twice a week. You get 25% commission for warranty sales but warranty only costs 10% of the price of a product so you basically get nothing. It's necessary for you to know about electronics since that's what most of the store's products are. Their electronics and appliances are refurbished so most don't last long/actually work. The hardest part of the job is that customers always keep coming back demanding a refund and yell or insult the employees because of the terrible products. Management does nothing about it either but most of the other sales associates will have your back. Hours are guaranteed if you're close with the manager. Workplace culture is very typical of retail where everyone snipes at each other. Salespeople only get 10% discount.

To get the positives out of the way, the store is pretty slow and you will never get too overwhelmed, at least when it comes to the work you have to do.

The problems come with the store itself. Essentially, you're selling products that are usually in poor/non working condition and upselling warranties that usually won't apply to the customer. You're essentially just ripping off the customer. While this mostly applies to TVs and Laptops, a lot of the product is usually cheap/liquidized products that usually break in a week. 

The staff are never on your side with things. Questions are seen as retaliation, and are never happy with the performance even if you're working above and beyond. Nothing is ever satisfactory with them, but will never specifically ask you why. God forbid you have to call a manager, as they will almost always throw you under the bus, even if it's not your fault.

This place has a high turnover rate for a reason, either people leave for better jobs or get fired before their third month for usually vague reasons. Avoid like the plague.

Avoid applying here they won't last much longer tbh.

the managers are overworked with useless tasks and you don't feel like a manager because you have to get approval from HO all the time and if its a customer situation they will always choose the customer over you and make you look like the bad person.  

some of your coworkers will be great but that's the only pro.

the vp  and regionals treats the managers horrible and you do not feel good about anything you do, they refuse to help and when they are in the store they sit in your lunch room on their computers in "meetings" and don't actually help.

they will watch the cameras when they come in and point out everything that is wrong but wont do anything to help fix the problems.

it's a min wage job even the managers make under what they should, assistant managers are around 30k a year and store managers 35k a year and its super high turnover rate 

most of the products come back and they don't offer refunds unless you have their card and the product is "defective" and it's still a fight. 

spend the extra money and get the real products because most items break in the first week 


This place is horrible... Here is why: 
1. Management lies to you
2. Management tells one employee to tell another employee what to do
3. Management will spread lies about one employee to another employee and spread gossip
4. I was hired as a sales associate, however, I do everything: cashier, sales, product merchandising, cleaning, wiping dust off shelves, warehouse cleaning, warehouse organizing, cleaning washrooms, carryouts
5. Management favours workers; one employee gets to relax and only do sales, while the other employee has to do everything
6. Management would tell us to lie to customers 
7. Complete tasks on a busy day, and if not completed Manager will question why it is not done
8. A large majority of their products are broken, missing parts
9. Most new hires have no product knowledge/no job experience, and employees have to keep on training new employees because no one ever stays here for long 
10. Managers will fight to give a refund to customers, even if their item is defective and they have registered membership cards. 



Factory Direct is a very disorganized and boring workplace. Firstly, the upper management is completely out of the loop on what goes on in their stores. Systems are down for weeks at a time, with store level management scrambling to explain the inconveniences to customers. The products are also very low quality, with about 1 in 5 products being defective or missing parts. Even though you may sign up for a sales representative job, you will spend most of the day stocking shelves and “cleaning”, which includes making the products look straight on the shelves and often remerchandising entire sections. There is also very low opportunity for advancement within the company as many managers are outside hires, and also the high employee turnover rate. The pay is awful for the work they demand, like pulling skids, loading skids, wrapping skids and stocking some very heavy (around 60-70lb) items by yourself. Would recommend this job if you have no where else to go (easy to get hired).

Getting to work seemed to pose a challenge at times in severe weather conditions, but, we were always given time to unwind (aka coffee/breakfast) and comfortably start the shift. Often customers were outside waiting in their cars before the store was open, so there was constant volume; but everyone was well trained and could easily handle mutiple things at once. Management was difficult as he was fair, did things a little unorthadox but was easy going for the most part of the day. My coworkers were young and knowledgeable; some lazier then others. The hardest part of the job was delivery day on a high volume day; that combination was the most frustrating, but everyone worked hard and together (for the most part). The most enjoyable part was I had a friend I went to high school with as a coworker, so it made the work enviornment easy to adapt and work in.

I worked for this company for 3 years was let go for no reason was just told it was not  working out. It's not an easy place to work unloading truck putting out stock and never appreciated for what you have done.There was never any raises in wadges and some times doing 12 hours shift because someone called in sick. If you work for this company and you are hired to be cashier thats not going to happen you will have to learn the whole store as you will be thrown in tec as well as being a stockier. The only things i found great about working for this company are the people i worked with and the extra moneys i would make for selling the product protection plan i would really not recommend anyone with a family to support to work here this place is great for students

Honestly, it's a liquidator not walmart not Canadian tire. People need to stop treating the company in such a way. They're relatively small with only 22 stores province wide. Regional management is pretty decent they usually always have your back as long as it's reasonable. Head office is readily available answer questions or concerns. The communication lines are open constantly. The pay is sub par but it if your in management your salaried so you always have a paycheck. No benefits. But as long as your good with your store manager scheduling is easy and flexible. You will be tested on escalated customer service, multitasking and troubleshooting a variety of issues. 

I really like the job, hopefully I can move up one day.
