My experience left me feeling that communication and organizational processes were not as strong as they should be, which created unnecessary stress in an already demanding field. The youth deserve dedicated staff, and the staff deserve clear leadership and support.


We have new leadership that is fairly recent, but I’m super optimistic and excited about it. I feel the commitment towards a lot of exciting changes. We are really working towards building a solid staff from the ground up. We’re really focused on hearing the feedback re: what the issues have been in the past and addressing that as we go forward. We’re getting feedback on the ground that people are loving the new team members we’re adding and the new changes we are making.

One of the things that I’m most excited about is I can sense we are really focused on helping our internal employees advance in their careers. I cannot stress this enough – growth opportunities are here right now. If you are a front line worker who is looking for that responsibility and looking to move up into a supervisor role – this is a really good place right now because the opportunities are here. We also have some exciting changes coming with regards to upgrading and integrating the digital technologies we use, which will make the job feel more "modern".

I'm super excited about things - leaving it 3* since I'm new - let's see what happens. But I am really excited about the team we are building now.


**Worst Experience Ever – Terrible Management!**

I recently worked at this company and can confidently say it was the worst job experience I’ve ever had. The management is utterly dysfunctional and completely out of touch with reality. Instead of offering guidance or support, they seem to thrive on confusion, miscommunication, and micromanagement. 

I was let go suddenly, with no clear explanation, after months of enduring disorganized workflows, unrealistic expectations, and a total lack of leadership. The management doesn't know how to handle conflicts, provide constructive feedback, or foster any kind of positive work environment. It's a toxic atmosphere where favoritism reigns and employees are left to fend for themselves.

This company lacks any sense of direction, and it’s clear they don’t care about their staff—only about pushing them out the door when it’s convenient. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for employment. This place is a mess, and it will do nothing but drain your time and energy.

After working a year at this company i'm very sure they don't actually care about the well-being of employees or clients. The schedule is inconsistent and makes work-life balance hard. They have horrible benefits that do not help if you are injured or sick. The benefits only help for doctors or dentists visits and prescription medications. If you are physically injured or develop mental health issues they won't help you. They won't provide paid time off when injured. They do not work with WSIB. They are understaffed and don't care that their current employees are over-worked. They don't look out for their clients mental health. They will isolate their clients till their breaking point. If you care about your health this is not the job for you.

I was so excited to get this job. It was a more senior role for me so I knew I was going to be able to really excel in the position. I have to say I’ve never stepped foot in such a shady environment. Management is an absolute nightmare. They are completely unprofessional and gossip about their frontline staff. The turnover here is massive. Within the short amount of time I was there, a number of people quit with short notice. All documentation is paper, nothing digitalized so the clients’ every movement is documented minute by minute in books. Training is nonexistent. You’re basically thrown in and told to lean on your team for support, meanwhile your team is drowning. Please find somewhere else to work, don’t waste your time here. Find an organization that cares about their staff and their clients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management does not do anything to help the staff or listen to complaints from staff regarding safety 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Staff are able to bully other staff and not complete their shift duties while asking newer staff to take on their responsibilities. Management will do little to nothing about this.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When you get to your shift, there is a binder with suggested shift duties. You support one of the people in the house at a time. Shift duties include personal care, cooking, cleaning and documentation

I worked at This company for over a year, they offered a pay increase shortly after hire and no additional increase afterwards. They had poor management,  and incompetent payroll staff, I experienced multiple incorrect pays. I experienced sub-par training, favouritism  , burn out, and poor management. Overall I would not recommend this employer. I had a terrible experience working with this company, they also have a sister company named bridging family care, do NOT waste your time.

A supportive leadership team. and incredible frontline workers in a fast paced, fun environment!

There are opportunities for growth and support when needed, so stress is apart of the challenges but a great part of learning here

Fun, passionate, supportive and happy for the most part. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A lot of collaboration and moving pieces to meet the goals of the individuals we support.

My friend referred me to Families First.  I’ve been working at this company for a while now and I feel like our team makes a huge positive difference in our clients lives.  We have a opportunity to give feedback, take them in the community, help develop programs, teach them skills and see them smile.  The Supervisors are helpful and willing to support me when I have questions and I have lots of opportunities for growth.  I recommend this workplace for those like me who want to become Supervisors.  If you work hard the positions are open to internal applicants regardless of how long you’ve worked with them. 

Been with this company since June of 2025 and found myself really liking it since I started, I brought about 11yrs experience from another sector to the table (homelessness and shelters) and this company has valued my input and put ideas to work I presented, really feel like Im heard here and valued.  Opportunities for advancement, started off as a DSW and within a few months they wanted me in leadership. Flexible schedule for the most part, even if youre in a fixed line they worked with me and many others to accommodate.  Happy here and plan to stay for a while
