It saddens me to see that this place should be welcoming and a place of safety, however it is opposite of that.  The level of lateral violence is high and severe.   The upper management  team consists of mostly non Indigenous staff with colonized views of dealing with issues as they arise.

This centre creates more trauma for Indigenous people than help prevent and support families in time of high need and stress.  It is very difficult to reach anyone for urgent assistance (the staff seem more concerned about themselves and what they can gain from the organization).

Aside from all the corruption the doula team is likely the only non toxic team there, this team is knowledgeable and lovely.

Very inexperienced and uneducated managers and coordinators, there are a few really good people left but not much.

Losing faith in this organization more and more each day and really should lose the title of a friendship center unless it's interpreted as " hiring friends" by management because it definitely seems that way 








I enjoy working at FRAFCA—the work environment is relaxed, and most of the staff are great. The work-life balance is also good, which is definitely a plus.

However, the organization has a lot of room for improvement. Management is weak, and there is little accountability. Everyone does whatever they want without oversight, and issues are only addressed when problems escalate—at which point, the blame falls on the employees instead of leadership.

There are no real opportunities for internal growth. Nepotism is strong, and advancement seems to depend more on favoritism than on qualifications or dedication. Highly qualified and hardworking employees are often overlooked simply because they are not part of the right inner circle.

If FRAFCA invested in better management and fair opportunities for growth, it could be an excellent place to work.

There are many amazing women and few men that call FRAFCA their home away from home. There are snafus but there are snafus in every organization even federal and provincial organizations. We are all people trying to survive and sometimes we do need to use our voice to grow and to find a sense of belonging. it has not always been a bed of roses because as Indigenous People and also as Allies who work at FRAFCA, we are all aware of the direction we need to grow as a community. This is am=n amazing place to learn, to grow, to use your creative mind to help us build our community for urban Indigenous people who call Surrey their home. There is always room for improvement, even in our own lives. I hope you take the challenge to come and join FRAFCA  and be a part of our family.

Well let's say that services are constantly cancelled, staff isn't welcoming anymore.

What was once a beautiful place filled with laughter and unity has become toxic.

I have not worked here but can say that a lot of good people have either been fired or felt driven out by toxic managers and people. 

The preschool since 2024 hasn't felt like a great place to be, very disorganized.. 
The childcare centre is also not in a good location and seems to not be run properly . 
Do not recommend bringing children to this toxic environment.

I've been attending frafca/klahoweya for over 15 years with my 3 children and I can say that I've never seen it this bad.
Clients can see through your selfishness and the way you treat eachother.
Do better Frafca!



If I could rate them a zero I would.
I have never worked here but I have seen a lot of very good staff either be driven out or fired.

Managers don't seem to want to hire people that have a higher IQ than them because they cannot manipulate them.  

I have witnessed an inexperienced manager literally belittle hard working staff in front of others. 
Very disrespectful and makes me think of how children would be treated in their care.

The childcare spaces are not warm and welcoming anymore.   Cold feeling. Services have gone down tremendously.




Turnover is horrendous. Very poorly run, employees higher up hire their family members. Information is not shared when learning your job. No care for employees especially when mental health and burnout is a factor. Their 3 strikes you're fired policy uses vague and unchecked facts, and one sided statements from disgruntled clients.  It's easy for them to fire people even when it hurts the client. New case workers over and over on a file is frustrating and delays tangible help.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the community. They are amazing people. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My co-workers were bullying me and management does not communicate. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Family. It is like a dysfunctional and annoying family. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Varied. There was no typical day.

If you are an ECE you are better off working at a center that pays you the government wage enhancement regularly on your cheques. As an ECE in this program you will have to wait MONTHS to recieve your "wage enhancement equivalent ". That is if you can make it through poor management and a toxic work environment. If you get pushed out then you WILL NOT recieve the money that you worked for. Fair warning. Not worth the headache.

This is an extremely challenging workplace. VERY TOXIC. Management isn't qualified to be in their positions and it trickles down to every program connected within the friendship center. It is a very unprofessional environment. The lateral violence is worse than I have ever experienced personally. I have nothing positive to share about the company. That is why I chose to leave. 

Highly stressful with lateral violence and preferential treatment to friends and family members. Clients over use supports and complain to a supervisor if a worker doesn't fill their needs. Large case loads and very little change happens for the client. Extremely hard to put low barrier clients into housing.
