Fitting into a new job is always difficult but when you are not properly trained for your position and constantly get in trouble for not asking questions, how are you supposed to learn? Was constantly having to explain why I did it that way? Or explaining why I was unsure if I didn't do it the way my boss wanted it done.  

I'm confident in the work I do but their was not time given to be on top of the HIGH expectations from the Activity Manager.  A manager should be treating everyone in the department equally and not favoring others.  Manager would always complain of all the work she had to do.  

I'm not saying I'm perfect at what I do but I'm honest and I respected my Manager and trusted what I told her was building that work trust to learn and grow.  If a Manager is going to be in a Manager roll, they need to know boundaries, how to properly manage and how to handle stress in a professional way.

I may not have been the right fit for this company but I sure and the heck can say I will work somewhere that APPRECIATES me for my qualities and knowledge and doesn't use stupid accusations with no written warnings against me.

I don’t even want to give 1 star. But you need to for the review ... manager in Recreation made me feel so comfortable (at first) and the people I worked with were easy to get along with.  I was really enjoying coming to work and doing programs with the seniors. But... then found out the recreation manager is friends with some recreation staff...awkward. Manager started being a drill Sargent in the first week.  Nice to your face , stab you in the back and made you look bad in front of others. Turned stressful and didn’t appreciate being talked down too by management. I could not work in an environment that played favourites and makes you feel like you’re nothing! Recreation manager turned very mean and showed who she really WAS. No thanks and goodbye

I had only worked a small amount of time at FDL but my experience was great. The staff was always welcoming, residents were always nice. 
I learned so much from the recreation department with the workers as well as the coordinator. She had alot of great ideas as well as the workers were hard workers with the amount of time that is given. 
The hardest part of working was balancing programs with the standards that were brought to us to do weekly or monthly. We never had enough time in the day to get things done. Had there been more hours for myself I would of never left. 
This is a great workplace to be in and I'm sad that I left.

This was a Great Place to work. The Staff is friendly and helpful if you need things. Your Co-Workers help you if you need help to finish your rooms your are assigned to clean.The pay is Great with pay increases. The Management are all friendly and I would not have quit but my Parents were both sick then and I had to take care of my Mother who has since Passed away from her illness.

I had worked at Fred Douglas Place for eight years as a nurse. Families constantly complaining about staff with no support from the administration. Always understaffed with missing breaks. Over worked with staff coming in late having to stay longer than your shift. Always running out of supplies. Absolutely no support from the administration. So much stress don't know how I lasted eight years.

Managers very unprofessional.  These so called managers need TRAINING how to respect their employees.... especially if they want to keep good staff who love their job.  You can hear residents talk among themselves how managers treat the staff.  Especially the Activity Manager.  Huge chip on her shoulder.  Whoever picked her for manager did a very poor choice. No one stays or she fires them.

Management is okay to work under. Budget cuts in 2002 lead to layoffs bur now the place should be back to normal. They let you pretty much do what you want as long as you get your work done. It is an union environment and they don't do much for you as the reps only cared about themselves or their departments. 

A nice place to work especially with seniors. It was a rewarding career. However, the work hours is only 6 hrs and low hourly rate.(below $20). Compare to janitor in school could rate $23/hour. If only they make it 8 hrs a day and at least $20/hour. I might have work their until retirement.

I volunteered at Fred Douglas and enjoyed doing so. It was a very relaxed and quiet place but there were instances that it would get fast-paced. A lot of the workers were nice but their were a couple that were slightly rude which was the only negative about this job.
