I got fired my first day because I made a $10.50 mistake at Riverbend Fabutan. I have 10 years of cashier & sales exp. and am a two time healthcare college graduate. I barely need to be trained on computer duties as I'm highly educated in these fields considering what I graduated for and have worked in before (psych emerg, reception, and doctors offices). I showed up early, worked hard, never argued with tasks, completed tasks when asked, cleaned the store very well, was nothing but nice with customers, and honestly put way more effort in than I should have considering the outcome. I mentioned I had OCD my second day of training and was treated as if I needed everything repeated to me multiple times even when I never displayed incompetence of these systems. She basically told me that she was "understanding of mistakes" but that I wasn't "picking things up quick enough" when again, I was using the computer by the second day with no issues and literally finished her sentences at times and she would agree on my answers, displaying that I was in deed picking things up and competent enough. Also, another worker who replaced me when I was done my 10-3 shift said she had made TONS of mistakes, and the manager even complained how she told her multiple times to "put the pillows on the beds the right way" but she didn't. So she's so understanding of mistakes yet fires me for a mistake that cost $10.50 on my first day. I accidentally sold a promo add on as a whole when you're supposed to sell a tanning package and the promo is the 10.00 add on. Yeah. So all of this is really looking like discrimination at it's finest since she literally told me she felt the need to "train me more" when again, I showed no computer literacy issues, never displayed issues with the job aside from learning package deals (there's a lot to cover. The training videos and courses are a total of about 8 hours and that's just for explaining how the beds work, explaining DHA, UV light, different wavelengths, how UVB produces Melanin and UVA synthesizes the melanin into a protein by oxidizing it which turns it brown). I learned this in a day, so how exactly was I not picking things up fast enough??? I don't know. But I mentioned I had OCD and was definitely treated as if I had a learning disability after. She would constantly repeat things that I clearly showed I had an understanding of and that she would agree with when I discussed it with her. I just thought she was being accurate. Now I really see how discrimination is still live and well. Fake as they come and horrible experience.

I worked here for almost a year, whilst the job was definitely a chill job to an extent (simple tasks, chill dress code, and fun people to work with). The upper management needed to improve. They promote associates to management positions very fast with no consideration, many of these associates have no experience nor knowledge In management and are thrown into the role with little training. Managers are significantly underpaid, pay is already mediocre, minimum wage is expected for the sales position, however managers are barely earning 16 an hr if they’re lucky. This pay is claimed to be subsidized by “commission” which they claim is easy to earn despite the unreasonable targets that you have to achieve through selling expensive tanning products, and services. Ownership of studios has a lot of room for improvement and is very disorganized. Beds would go down, studio girls would get yelled at by clients despite sending continuous emails about studio failures that are ignored. Hours are completely inconsistent, your lucky to pull in maybe 2 or 3, 3hr shifts a week, but managers can switch these hours up constantly and take hours for themselves. You are texted constantly about covering a 3hr shift sometimes very far away from you, which you wouldn’t even get paid travel time for. I just wish this place and the owners would learn from the numerous girls who have left for a reason, this place goes through staff frequently and even clients have noticed it. A reputation like this is super poor for business. If staff treatment was better, if they listened to staff complaints and suggestions without ignoring them, they would keep a lot more staff and improve as a company significantly. And you can’t bully people into making sales while underpaying them. Whilst I wouldn’t discourage anyone from applying for the job, I’m only here to make people aware of what I believe management should take into consideration. 

Working at Fabutan is fun in the beginning. Worked with lots of great girls, but a lot of them left on their own accord, or were let go due to not being "good enough". Very high turn over rate. It is extremely sales/performance based. If you expect to move up, you had better be good at sales. Typical days involve upselling product and services, hitting (sometimes intangible) goals, cleaning and maintaining the studio, and doing cash outs. Was also a manager, so that involved hiring, training, and dismissal of staff, as well as general day-today business ops, and cash management, as well as over seeing inventory. Managers were expected to bend over backwards for their locations. It gets ridiculous. 

Fabutan can be very catty, and upper management is a joke. Hypocritical, judgmental, immature girls who talk down to you. After being with Fabutan for many years, I felt it has changed and gone deeply downhill. The pay was not worth the stress at all. Product discounts, and free services was nice to have; but it doesn't accommodate for the wage gap, and high performance expectations. It would be different if it the business and ownership was modeled differently, I think. It has become too much about the money, and not enough about the customers. Sometimes, I miss it, and other days I don't.

i worked at fabutan for about 2 months, the training was done all wrong you have to have a minimum of 10 training shifts before being scheduled as well as days of online training, i got a total of 1 day of training then left on my own and blamed for things i wasn't shown how toe do. was threatened to get fired almost everyday over small things example not replying to a email is a write up or fire, i also did lashed and it was the most unsanitary environment do not get your lashes done there. during a global pandemic we were told to re use the same eyelash brush for all of our clients, they used that one being passed around for over a week as well as all the lash glue is either empty all the time or expired, manager refused to let us use any other glue or product as well as tweezers were always in horrible shape and used by everyone. you will get humiliated by staff and talked about constantly, horrible communication between everybody, i finished my whole lash certification and then left due to horrible work environment and now they refuse to give me my certification unless i work there for 6 months or more. do not do it there's many other good places you can work. managers are all young and immature as well as staff.

i worked at the stand alone Hush Studio in southern Calgary. The communication was anything but good between employees and management. If you think you are going to have a full time position from the get go, you are very wrong. The people working there are so unprofessional and the wage is so low that there is no way you could make a living out of this job. They encourage you to sell product but you are only getting 3% commission on anything you sell... uhh what? Also, to be fiddling around with near someones eye balls for 15 dollars an hour? thats is also not worth it. At the location i worked at they expected you to use your own personal vehicle to go out and promote the company by handing out coupons to various businesses close by without paying for every km you drive, or pay you for your time that you took to go out and promote. 
You are also expected to call past clients every time you have any free time and to encourage them to come back but most people tell you to stop calling them. The studio has gotten such a bad rep over the last year that i do not have much hope for this locations future. 
Even the Manager talked so badly about this place and was continuously looking for a new job.

An awful place to work they use their employees and pay them minimum wage and expect their employees to sell sell sell if they want any hours and this is all for a job that is part time and is minimum-wage often times you’re sales are shown Publicly to other staff members and feels like a way to embarrass others who are having a hard time selling. 
Management is so cheap that they put it on the staff to explain to clients why things can never be replaced and often times hours you actually worked aren’t even put in. 
I cannot see anybody making a career out of a job like this and even then as a part time job they expect you to literally run the store while you’re getting paid minimum wage. They pressure staff into quitting and they have no respect for Your own time outside of work. They often charge full price or close to full price to clients when staff aren’t even completely certified for their lashes which is absolutely ridiculous. Overall high stress for staff and the ethics of the business are very questionable!

I was hired as a receptionist/training for Hush lashes. Quit because the comp for lashes was TERRIBLE compared to having your own business, and management was awful. Depending on your manager, it might be better for you, but after an incident during covid that HIGHLY went against my own morals and customer service values, I was then completely cut hours for two weeks as a punishment for a very small error I made and I couldn’t possibly stand behind a paycheck anymore. We were also forced to make cold calls to previous clients who had not been there for over a year advertising sales going on, and if you didn’t make them (and get totally ridiculed in the process), your hours would be cut. Same with sales. If you didn’t make enough sales of tanning lotions etc, hours were cut. Only good part of the job was free tanning/red light, and heavily discounted products if you’re into tanning. Oh and it was “encouraged” to have lash extensions on yourself to promote that service and my eyes were glued shut by the manager and had a severe allergic reaction. 

Management needs improving. The boss will give minimal training and expect you to just know how to deal with faulty equipment, and push sales. There is a lot to remember for a minimum wage job and once you start getting a hang of things you will be reamed for poor sales and not meeting targets. Boss is unprofessional and will ask you to call if there are any issues, and then be passive aggressive and rude when you actually call. Fabutan expects you to sell 700 dollars worth of packages and products every shift to meet sales goals and receive "commission" (you will never actually get). Shifts are 5 hours max and you are expected to come in early or stay late for no pay + no breaks. The only positive is nice co-workers but because you work alone you will hardly see them, and management will most likely try to pit you against each other and compare sales. 

Honestly babes, save yourself the waste of time. THE worst management I have ever experienced. They will "forget" to put you on payroll for at least the first month (max I've seen up to 3 months), will promise you amazing hours and you will receive nothing, pay you below minimum wage if you get into lashing, and will belittle you like no other. I've met a total of 3 employees out of the probably 200 I've met that enjoy this job/company. Don't even get me started on the labour laws they break. Your job is purely sales and if you do not sell enough every 3 hour shift you have, of course you get yelled at over text, but even if your numbers are double the expectation, of course you still get yelled at for not being able to pull the weight of all 8 girls at each studio. Revolving door of new hires because staff quits weekly, if not daily (for good reason may I add). I mean it when I say you will regret it. Anyone looking for employment, please take you and your self worth elsewhere. 

I worked at Fabutan for almost a year in that time i became pregnant, staff & management treated me SO different, & didn’t allow me to sit at all, I brought several doctors notes & still had to stand for 8 hour shifts with no breaks, no hours & super unprofessional staff as well as management was an utter joke, all young disrespectful dramatic girls that worked there. Managers train you to lie & upsell things to clients so they buy new products. Hours were based on how much you sold & how high your commission rate is. I worked at a location downtown for most of my time working at Fabutan, I had many scary encounters with people coming into the store, no security, not a care in the world for their staffs safety way much gossip & drama, every single girl there is trained to not be their self but to be rude stuck up liars. I highly don’t recommended working here. Avoid at all costs !!!
