What is the best part of working at the company?
I loved working at Fairhaven. You could say I'm a big fan! Management is fair, psws are part of a team we usually work in pairs. Once in awhile there is a resident who requires one-on-one attention and I enjoy those shifts as well. How are every year on this party usually she's up here the residence are like family to us and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Covid-19 took a toll on everyone. Ever since then we've been working short staffed especially on weekends so you can imagine how stressful that can be.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Our work environment with structured making it easy to communicate with our residents and give good care.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We begin with report, then we break off into teams of two do care and toileting. I worked evenings which meant that once care was done we would record are findings such as bm's, voids, health and skin care and Report any skin issues or health issues to the rpn. We would then transport everyone to the dining room to serve supper and assist individuals who are no longer able to feed themselves. After that it's a relaxing time for the residents.  They get snack, and the team begins preparing everyone for bed. I loved tucking in my residents for the night. Before the end of shift we complete our findings on our tablets. One full-time staff stays 1 hour later answering call Bells, doing care and sometimes providing a second snack or fluid for those who cannot sleep yet.

Staff was more interested in seniority levels than importance and value of the work they did. If you are new staff, the ones you work with sit back and watch you work. No inclusivity, no value displayed for your hard work ethic, no positive communication, either by management or staff and everyone I worked with had something nasty to say about everyone else. Of course, knowing that a toxic, negative work environment is made up mostly of individuals who have no balance or sense of self worth within their own personal lives or themselves, jealousy and insecurity, it goes without saying success to these people doesn't go past their "title" or their small minded attitudes. They could have benefitted so successfully from having a hard working, positive and healthy individual on their team, but that was not an interest to them and in the end was their absolute loss! If you only care about money and not about inconsistent "direction," from management that has no interest in positive, quality leadership or transparency, being continuosly misinformed, constantly reminded how you aren't "part of the union and have no seniority," being bullied by staff on a regular basis, not being included as part of a team and looked upon and treated as a slave, and having no one to take your grievance too because they are all one and the same, then this would be the place to work!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Management is fair, engaged, and professional. Great Hours, Great Pay, Great Benefits, and an amazing loving group of PSWs 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working short staffed, the culture of bullying in the workplace, and limited amounts of initial training . New grads, and new hires need a lot more initial training before being left alone .  Management needs to be more proactive on continued , repetitive bullying by senior staff . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mostly fun, mostly supportive and educational. Management is readily available, and willing to jump in. Great RNs, Great Staff for the most part .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, fast paced,  surrounded by supportive like minded nurses, and managers for the most part. You have to be organized, mindful and ready to expect the unexpected

Very poor and incompetent management.  Many in management positions are unqualified for their positions.  Many are in the jobs they have because of the union, and yet are not qualified for the position.  Toxic work environment.  Bullying is rampant.  Union seems to run the place and yet doesn't do much.  Preferential hiring given to manager's family members, regardless of whether they are qualified or not.  Overtime given to chosen few.  Definitely would not recommend working here if at all possible.  Only positive is the wonderful and lovely elderly residents.

People need to make an effort to be positive. We have tough jobs but think about how this job would be at another Home. Would it be better, worse or the same? I have worked in other Homes and this one puts Residents first, commits to filling as many shifts as possible, has more Schedulers than my other Home and shows genuine appreciation for staff. How could there possibly be more appreciation? My other Home never spent money on anything they didn't have to. The money here is better. I don't think people here really should have a lot to complain about.

The culture at Fairhaven has improved.  I feel that management has tried to show staff that they want to work with people.  Appreciation is a much bigger priority now and it does help when we have had a bad day, worked a double, had stressful time with Residents, etc.  Working in long term care is difficult, especially in a pandemic, but if I am going to stay in this field, I don't think there is a better place to work in this area.

I've worked for fairhaven for 9 years now. Not only has it been a great place to work. They've given me time for education so I could further myself in nursing.  I'm sadden by the negative reviews I read. I'm sorry people feel this is a bad place to work. I've only had great experience from  here  with all the staff and management.  I would recommend this place to anyone.  I love fairhaven . Everything about fairhaven and our little community we've built with one another.  I wouldn't want to  be anywhere else. Xo

one of the better LTC homes. great care great  energy from both staff as well as residents. Management was very helpful.

have variety of shifts - could be a bit more flexible  but nothing thats not doable.
psws should get a  full time posting right away as they are the ones  who do take call ins the  most, and starting out thats how you get ft time hours when your only pt until you get a ft posting.

Don't get caught up in politics
Be in good physical shape
Be positive!
As a psw the job is both physically and mentally demanding.
Supplies were often not readily available when shifts were changing.
Residents had to adhere to schedules for meals n bathing.
We often had to work short which meant staff were tired n edgy.

- management is only interested in looking after themselves
- crooked management (hiring family members)
- managers bully employees
- some managers don't have qualifications to be managers on their departments
- go through employees like crazy, people get fired for nothing, people leave because of the horrible working environment
- union is powerful yet doesn't do much for the employee at the end of the day
