Fairmont Hot Springs Resort

I happily worked for Fairmont Hot Springs Resort for 5 years. 

First the bad: During my 4/5th year of employment there were major changes to the structure of the company. 
I watched multiple employees who were with the company-long term- be let go (with fair compensation packages). I witnessed job titles and pay structures be changed without notice and brand new management step in. 
Fairmont Hot Springs Resort use to be about the culture of "loving where you live and work" however this culture has been shifted to be a lot more about revenue and money since the change in management (not necessarily wrong- just different then before.) I watched my department be completely re-structured. Most of the new management has come from city hotels and resorts. As an employee I feel the resort has lots its charm and uniqueness, it has become a cookie cutter resort overly priced for what they are delivering.
Final note- it is filled with gossip. If you are looking to go to a place of work, do your job leave and not get involved in drama- it will be very hard to do so. 

Now the good! I worked there five years and have meet some of the most amazing individuals as my co-workers, who are not members of upper management. It truly does feel like a family (a bit of a dysfunctional one) but one you love anyway! 

I moved up quite a lot- I started in one position and was promoted with a pay increase 3 times. Without this resort I would not have a career and I am very thankful for that! My previous manager (prior to staffing changes)  was dedicated to my development. The Resort paid for me to have additional training as a supervisor. They let me attend meetings I was not qualified for to help groom me into better positions. The perks of skiing in the winter, hot pools year round and medical & dental benefits were great. Not to mention the golf! It is a great place to work for the perks alone, especially if you have a young family. 

I will finish off by saying- I am sure a new employee coming into the new management and new culture who did not work there prior will love working there, it truly does feel like home. As an employee who went through the shift in culture and management I was happy to hand in my notice and start fresh somewhere new.

 Trust me you'll reevaluate your self worth once employed here unless your goal is management and or any other non physical position.  One facade to the next.

I had COVID as a few of us got it. Completely ignored, guilt tripped via messages and upon return.  Like being short staffed was our doing. Very detached from their employees well being.  

 The employee-guest experience was on most accounts low end.  Ignorance and disrespectful mannerisms daily, not here and there. Daily.  

Staff housing?  Everyone I met said the housing pictures we're misleading. Fish eye lens??.  Very small shared places in most cases. As in two adults sleeping in the same room with no regards to work schedules and or lifestyles.  



I worked as an Activities Expert and it was so dynamic and fun, loved every minute of it! Staff lunches were good, everyone was so friendly and I made many lifelong friends in staff acomm! Managers were all very kind and I really had the best time ever. Highly recommend. Also the bonuses of working at the resort and using the pool and gym are awesome, there is also so many cool things around to see! (The natural hot springs, hoodoo hikes, Columbia lake etc). Truly, the only reason I am not going back this summer is because I want to pursue a job in my degree field otherwise I totally would. 

This was one of the worst workplaces I've ever experienced, for the following reasons:
1. My supervisors and manager were very unprofessional, didn't appear to have any leadership skills, and loved to complain about guests while they were still in the room 
2. The pay is far too low for the amount of work expected of you
3. The resort was quite rundown and we would receive multiple complaints from guests every day
4. There's very little communication between departments, so no one ever really knows what's going on, leaving you unable to answer guests' questions

Upper management in total disarray.  People in positions they are not qualified for. The only director that was great at their job have left due to frustration.
Front line staff are great and trying but get no support, resulting in a less than ideal culture and no trust.
Great benefits however, pay is not keeping pace with inflation.  While some changes are good, lots of talk and no continuation.

Do NOT work here. Management is horrible to their staff and treat you like a number. They don't care about your well-being or opinions. Management is petty and immature in how they deal with conflict. Work environment is incredibly toxic. Communication from upper management is non-existent. Despite speaking with Human Resources about this, nothing changed. My coworkers were the only good part about working for this embarrassingly disorganized, toxic company.

There are managers that think they are the best in the world at their job, but are not. There is no direction at all in the way they want the resort to function. 

Company keeps increasing rates for guests to stay but do not increase employee wages. So if you'd like to be paid minimum wage great place to work.  

A lot of managers are never there, when they are it's not when it's busy (weekends). So you feel as though you have zero support. 

easily one of the worst places a person can work. people here are stupid and lazy and managment does not care and is two faced. housing is also terrible and living with roommates is one of the worst things a person can go thorugh especially when its with the peeple that work here. 

Your work day mostly consists of either doing all the work or working at a snails pace and talking with other co workers doing nothing while 1 person does all the work.

Lack of accommodations, employees paid the same of place if one person or 4 people stayed in one apartment.  Yes covid hurt everyone  but employees who stay and worked through were not repected for thier hard work through  it.

I really enjoyed the work being outside all. I got to work in snow, see bears and squirrels up close and personel. I got to communicate with guests when they were outside enjoying the grounds that I was looking after. The people I worked with were really friendly and helpful. I worked mon-fri, hours were great.
