The staff are the backbone of this facility and genuinely care about the residents. However, management’s priorities are deeply flawed. Issues are often ignored until they become major problems, and the main focus seems to be on satisfying ministry requirements rather than supporting quality care. Workers are pressured into excessive documentation more than what is ministry mandated which takes time un needed time off the floor having to choose between helping residents or getting your charting done. 

Processes and procedures change rapidly, sometimes week to week, leaving staff constantly unsure of expectations and what will change next. There is also a lack of clarity around leadership roles many staff do not fully understand what each manager’s role is, despite having multiple ADOCs. This creates confusion, inconsistency, and unnecessary stress.

Additionally, the current EDOC has no medical background, which raises concerns about clinical leadership and decision-making. Overall, the environment feels disorganized, reactive, and more focused on protecting the organization than supporting staff or providing the best possible resident care

I should start this by stating that I was only a volunteer here and not a paid worker, so my review may not be the best of references. I volunteered for church services and worked with the residents in the care units rather than the residents living independently in the apartments/homes.

I only worked weekends but I loved working with the residents and staff there, no staff member had anything nasty to say to you and were nothing but friendly. If a resident was being belligerent they were quick to step in. It was managed well, I was independent and working on my own for my entire time there which I loved. After you learned the job they trusted you to do it and I enjoyed that trust.

There only thing I found difficult had nothing to do with the home itself. Naturally it is a retirement home, some of the elderly people there are very sick and confused, therefore sometimes they got frustrated and angry with you for little reason, but it came with the territory. The positives far outweighed that one negative, I enjoyed coming in every weekend.

Worked here briefly as I could not handle the disrespect from fellow workers and seeing how heartless they are at taking care of the vulnerable. A letter was written to let the managers how awful the residents were treated including myself. Instead of doing something about it the email was shown to staff who was reported and this staff went around laughing that she was complained about. Not professional at all. Long time PSWs treat new staff terrible to the point you leave in tears and when approached by managers they say it’s just how they are. You stay past your time to help your partner out because there’s not enough staff scheduled to get everything finished. No hours paid after your scheduled hours. Not a pleasant work environment at all I wouldn’t recommend anyone to apply here.

Residents are amazing.
Staffs likes to cover up their laziness by blaming psws from previous shift for not having enough time to finish certain things in the time frame they are given. No matter how hard of a worker you are. There’s always something someone will say about you or report you. 
Management is hard to get a hold of.. 
schedules are always mixed up, and short staff. 
Everyday you come in or out of work, you’re afraid of hearing another complaint about you by the next group of people coming in/out. There’s never any positive feedback. 

It’s mentally draining. 
I’ve cried a-couple times after work because some staffs here belittles you. Other than that, residents there is what keeps u looking forwards to working the next day. 




What is the best part of working at the company?
The atmosphere and caring of every individual is a breath of fresh air. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some days are better than others.. but still worth  working there

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Every one loves everyone.. I have worked at a few places and Fairview ranks top for me. Management on all levels are very understanding and most of all show they care. Many places don't have this culture.. Fairview does! Hands down, THE BEST PLACE TO WORK!!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some days are very busy but even on those days, you know you have added value  :)

8 residents to get up in the morning in under 2 hrs. It’s very rushed. Doesn’t feel personal. 
They rush feeding people and then leave 1 person to clear the entire dining room. 
The turn over is high they fire people daily.
Constantly hiring to replace. Very few coworkers have been there for more than 1/2 yrs
You’re just a number on the payroll.
When you bring an issue up to the nurse she tells you everyone is adult she doesn’t have time. 
Basic care is barely met. Staff don’t do proper catheter care. Peri care is never done properly 
Working here thy boast kindness lives here kindness comes first but they fire you before you ever have a write up or warning

Since beginning my nursing career at Fairview working in the Home & Community department, I have learned what it means to be a team and build leadership skills. All staff are inclusive and are consistently developing new  ways to support the residents across the campus. I feel fully supported when I suggest ideas to upper management and have been given to support to grow and build. I am grateful to work with such caring and compassionate psws they work as a strong team and communicate so easily to ensure residents are safe and receiving quality care. I plan to be a part of Fairview Seniors community long term and grow with the organization.  

This is a Mennonite not for profit, charitable foundation. I enjoy working here as there is a wonderful sense of community in this home. It is a team effort and everyone works together for the common goal. A typical day is running group and one to one programs and/or activities for the residents. Restorative feeding in the dining rooms is also a part of our routine. We also plan monthly calendars and do daily charting of resident involvement, as well as resident assessments. The hardest part of the job is when a resident passes away. The best part of the job is the interaction with the residents and being able to help in anyway possible.

I worked as RN for almost 1 year in this home, i always enjoyed working here. Management is so approachable, its just unbelievable.  Everybody is so supportive. I highly encourage new nurses to work here, salary is good then so many other places, trust me its my personal experience.  New nurses will enjoy learning here, because no body is going to bully you or be mean to you. I loved this place from day 1.  All managers encourage you to learn, listens to you ... And try their best to accommodate your needs, especially current DOC, she is a very kind hearted, fun loving leader. I miss working here. I had to move to a different province to i had to resign. 


I’ve worked here for 10 years or so been through a couple sets of managers. The current managers have a very good game face in the sense they all get along but with the changing times they tend to fall short. They often ask for input in things that need improvement but don’t usually take any suggestions in mind. The current EDOC doesn’t have a nursing background she is is great with the business people skill side of things but not the nursing side of things. Lots of different cultures on the floor which is great except when they often stick together and don’t follow instructions as they don’t respect the seniority and knowledge of other staff members.
