It's been a long time since I've been able to join an organization that makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger than myself. I feel like being a part of FSGV makes me feel like I am making a difference, perhaps not directly each day, but still making a difference. 

My job is flexible, which for me, is extremely important. I think that this organization is lightyears ahead of many places in that they value family, team work and the happiness of their staff. I find that the benefits are so well suited to my lifestyle and what I need for myself and my family. 
 
They are working on ensuring that we have an up-to-date Learning Management System so that we can have a place to keep up to date with our growth and development. Although I know we can improve here as well, I like that they are always willing to be a better organization. They always try to be successful at everything they do, so they can be better for the communities they serve and the staff that work there.  

FSGV would be the perfect place to work if they were able to offer better overall compensation/higher wages.

Leadership and fellow staff are warm, supportive, and progressive, and frontline staff’s ideas and feedback are genuinely taken into account when developing policy. Managers encourage and support your growth, although opportunities for advancement become less frequent once you reach a coordinator or supervisor role.

Due to low wages, it is hard to recruit staff to certain positions and almost all programs are perpetually short staffed, leaving existing staff to pick up more responsibility and tasks than are realistically possible, leading to high burnout risk. 

The work is very rewarding and staff are well respected in the community for the consistently high quality of work put out and success with youth engagement. It is very easy to get along with coworkers because it feels like everyone is on the same page about vulnerable youth. 

The work place culture is filled with support, kindness, innovation, integrity, and optimism. I love being able to make an impact on society by indirectly providing help to those who may need it. Management is always open to hearing ideas that come up and is always transparent with us. 

All around awful management. The program, youth and coworkers were great but management was the worst I've seen. No accountability for their hurtful words and harmful mistakes. Lack of care for staff safety. 

I have never seen more performative activism in my life, they pretend to care about marginalized communities, but actually couldn't possibly care less. You will be targeted the second you express any concern about anything. They care more about hiring people who shut up and let them treat people terribly than people who stand for what is right.  

Absolutely traumatic experience. HR does not care about you, they care about protecting management and they will lie to get rid of you. 

There is no union so you are at the mercy of these awful human beings in management roles.  


The typical work day can starts between 7:30 - 9:30 am. Every employee can chose when their work day begins provided that they complete their 7. 5 working hours. Managers are busy dealing with multiple priorities so time allocated to marketing deliverables is often limited. Co-workers are warm and supportive and there to help. Getting tasks done to deadline can be challenging as you are confronted with internal challenges that often make meeting deadlines difficult. Every day at FSGV is a good day insofar as you are working for a good cause and cause marketing can be very rewarding.

After school and weekend contract work with children and youth with Special Needs involving integration into the community. Activities were developed and implemented to meet specific individual needs. Good support and on-going training available, plus staff appreciation day annually. Terrific, caring, dedicated supervisors. Working with kids and parents was highly rewarding - but as a non-profit agency there is not enough hours or pay to live in expensive Vancouver.

A fairly well-run machine that has great people at it doing their best every day. Sadly, some high turnover in management made it run less smoothly for a time. The office has a calm atmosphere, where it is quiet unless you are taking calls from clients or speaking with counsellors or other resources in the EAP. 

I have enjoyed my work at Family Services of Greater Vancouver. The agency is a non profit organization. My manager is very nice and understandable. Besides my previous work experience, I learned how to process pension and how to generate ADR reports at year-end. Moreover, the organization is transferring its payroll system from Comvida to ADP. I am happy that I can help with the system transfer.

I had a temp contract with Family Services. My contract will be end soon. So, I need to find another job.

- Not much opportunity for upward movement. 
- Management are nice but there is a lot of disconnection between frontline staff and the bosses making decisions. 
- Lack of support for crisis situations. 
- Benefits are decent. 
- Very limited sick/vacation days for part time staff. 
- Very little recognition or praise when doing well at work. 
- Co workers are extremely friendly but there is a very high turnover rate and the office vibes change frequently. Can oscillate between toxic and peaceful  pretty rapidly. 

Very disorganized company with poor management. Lots of favoritism from program managers who are more interested in checking boxes than actually proving care for youth in the program. Safehouses are poorly maintained to the extent that social workers are calling concerned about the health and saftey of the kids. 

Terrible organization overall.
