Ferrovial Services is a good reflection of a corporation that is unprepared to meet the expectations of its contract. A revolving door culture where experienced technicians are always moving on due to a lack of respect from upper management that refuses to match compensation with competitors, although this is not entirely their fault as they are limited by a tight budget. 

This of course leads to a situation where inexperienced technicians, snow plowers, and under manned crews cannot meet expectations which consequently leads to more fines for non-compliance which pushes more and more labourers and middle management away. 

The work is plenty and the crews can be great, with safety being one of the most important values as this can be a dangerous job. 

Overall, the work is good but don’t expect overtime as Highway Technicians receive overtime at 55.0hrs as regulated by the Highway Act. Pay is low for the area and raises few and fair between, and don’t expect your raise to match cost of living or inflation. 

Also, most (but not all) middle and upper management have no conception of what exactly regular work entails which creates an unfortunate gulf between technicians and management on how exactly projects are to be completed, the plus side of this is that it enables greater freedom for technicians which some can excel under. Yet this lack of direction from an ignorant management leaves technicians, especially new hires, without adequate training and preparation for a dynamic and changing work environment. 

I have had an amazing experience with lots of foreman’s, techs, and some managers who’ll help you excel, but besides this Ferrovial continues to have retention problems as a result of low pay, no raises, and a somewhat cliquey upper management detached from the living reality of workers: “protect the brand”, and “we don’t want people here who are just here for money” are other very privileged comments made an aloof upper management. 

Middle management and foreman’s are amazing though. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people you work with make or break the year.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Your n one is entirely dependant on the weather so if it’s mild you won’t be paid much so you may turn to alternative wok but th company still expects you to be easy and able at all times. It can get tough but so far out of 5 years only one year was bad financially.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The drivers themselves make the atmosphere, highly skilled and veteran divers go know what they’re doing and are nice enough to give up pointers, make you feel like a team. The managers are a different story, thy constantly shutdown the veteran plow drivers and force shifts into unnecessary time crunches due to poor judgement or mismanagement. For instance a vet driver tells manager we should salt at a higher rate to combat the snowfall until it lights up, th manager will say no, a few hours later the roads are slick and and covered with our plowing falling behind and no extra shift to cover clean up all the drivers at the 14 hr mark as per legally require and the highways are still bad.


Ps. Thy blame the drivers  afterwards.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Most days you find yourself at home watching the weather but it isn’t uncommon fo th snow patroller to become chicken little and scream the sky is falling. If you close to the yard be prepared for multiple 4 hour salting shifts at 2-3 am

Please save your time, skills and efforts if you are ever considering employment with Ferrovial. 

Unfortunately corporate does not have a clear road to successes for it's employees. They are bullish and lack education and skills to perform most of their duties.  They do not recognize nor care how many hours, how much effort and time you have put into this company. They will fire you with a drop of a hat if you are not a YES person. Only the sheeple will survive. 

They lie and cheat their way into contracts. Ferrovial continues to try to cover up any mishaps so they don't look bad in front of their clients. This company does not abide by any integrity or ethics. They promote the must mundane, illiterate and cocky people that have no idea what they are doing. If you look closely you'll notice a little brown spot on their noses.  

HR is a joke. It's ran by unskilled, uneducated corporate pets that have no idea what Human Resource is all about. Unfortunately they make things up as they go along.  Conversations with HR is threating, lack substance and you will feel like your losing brain cells. 

Ferrovial doors is always rotating. The amount of skilled managers, great workers that have either left willingly or got fired is insane. Across all projects you will notice a high number of employee turn around.

I highly recommend Ferrovial for anyone looking to start a career in the maintenance or construction industry. Ferrovial is a great place to learn about the industry and many people who started with the company moved on to better positions in the construction industry. 
One of the things that make Ferrovial Services an ideal place for those starting out is that the company pays for your DZ or AZ license training with no obligation other than working for Ferrovial services for one year. Its a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and advance your career. 
While the maintenance industry comes with challenges, such as the lack of operators due to market conditions and pay. 
Management is always available to address concerns and listen to the feedback of the employees - they might not be able to address all the concerns due to the struggles of the maintenance industry - but they are always working with the field operations for the common goal. 
Overall, I highly recommend Ferrovial Services as a stepping stone to advancing your career in maintenance or construction.  

In shorts, not a good environment to work in. Managers are always pretending to work hard, but most of time they are clueless about the  daily tasks or operations. You will be promised the world before your employed, but once your employed the promotions always go to the phoney fakers and people who only suck up the managers.
Giving everybody a heads up regarding two positions, operations manager and operations coordinater. They titles seem great, but you are nothing more than a paper pusher and paper organizer. Ferrovial please get with he program, and get some softwares to manage the projects. 
If you still decide to jump on aboard with ferrovial, you will realize soon that you made a mistake.

Worst management of any place I've ever worked at. I have never experienced such disorganization and incompetence in my life. Management is only concerned about their own well-being and how much bonus money they can get from their shady side deals. Everyone is a  snake. You'll work hard and make them lots of money from work not related to the contract they have with the highways and they will make you promises that are never kept. As soon as something happens and what ever shady thing they do or did comes back on them they will throw you under the bus as fast as possible. 
Payroll is never correct. 
Everyone in management office needs to be removed. 
Only good thing about working here is the other employees. 

I started here at Ferrovial in the main Kanata yard on the 417 contract as a seasonal operator. That means I drove a snow plow, pick-up truck, dumptruck, float truck and the equipment is new and well maintained.

I am now working as a recruiter and Fleet Driver Trainer.  They atmosphere is a positive and busy one.  There is a lot of emphasis on safety and continuing education.  

The management team leads in a sensible and instructional way.  They aren't heavy handed but will listen and their doors are always open

The workload is manageable and achievable. However, it is not recommended to take on additional responsibilities beyond one's scope of work to benefit the company. Upper management seems to prioritize minimizing employee wages and hours , because of underbidding on significant projects and increased stress on employees. This stress can result in employees having to provide their own tools and resolve equipment issues, including those affecting their coworkers, to complete tasks efficiently. Notably, some employees have shown a willingness to assist each other, likely due to the lack of support from upper management.  

. Management is all temperamental who likes to yell and be little you at any chance they get. Lots of unfulfilled promises as well. The turn around in this company is crazy no one sticks around more than a few months. its a very stressful and toxic environment. If you enjoy working all the time with no work life balance this is the place for you. you will be called in at moments notice for overtime and be expected to drop everything you are doing to take the extra shift  … doubt the company will be around for long with their track record. “The MillerGroup” needs to return and take over the highway !

Like all companies ferrovial has some issues but overall the management that I deal with are co operative and competent. it is a face paced environment but it really feels like a team. The pay definitely could be better compared to the cost of living but the culprit for this is not ferrovial but instead contract structure. We definitely provide an essential service and at the end of the day I think we do a pretty good job. i would definitely recommend this company if your looking for stability and room to grow.
