Fiddicks Nursing Home

I've been here for four years and while I don't have as much experience as most here I've been here long enough to have seen some ups and downs. when The fiddicks family was running the place there were some tensions between management and staff like every LTC facility, but at least they tried to make up for it with incentives and occasional free food. The new company that just bought the place cut back on more than half the activities staff, housekeeping staff, and dietary staffs work and have given those jobs to the psws ontop of the regular workload. not to mention the incredible impact this has had on the residents who have enjoyed a comfortable routine.  They say that they are open to feedback but every suggestion or issue that's brought up is met with "thanks, but work around it". most senior staff are either quitting or taking an early retirement. 

if you're looking for a clinical, strict, hospital feeling environment this is the place.

if you want a homey, welcoming environment, keep looking. 

Management here is the worst, they are callous with their employees, incredibly rude and don’t care about anyone except other management staff.  They fire people without notice or reasonable cause but keep staff that they know aren’t doing their jobs properly, staff that they have recordings of screaming at residents. The unprofessional behaviour here is disgusting. I wouldn’t leave my dog there, let alone a loved one. 

Worked in field for many years.  The job isn't easy but their standards are high. The resident comes first.  Reallly clean work environment. Tonnes of hours. Offer for advancement. I appreciate that the owners are approachable and make it clear the residents come first. The care. Comfort. Safety. Happyness of the resident is the goal. They expect the best of there employees. I've worked at other homes. This is my longest 8 years. Its clean. Friendly. Wages similar to other honest care is so much better. I'm proud to work there. Good is unbelieval and available to staff.

Wouldn't recommend anyone to work there or place a beloved family member in their care. They treat employees horribly and fire them without cause or warning, while keeping those that have been proven inadequate. Schedules change daily with no notice or asking your availability. But your expected to either cover it yourself or call in a personal day. Every quarter your emailed with how pleased they are that you haven't missed any shifts or how many days off you took because they changed your schedule without discussing it with you. Floors are short staffed nearly every shift every day. 

ive only worked there a short time and well i do not enjoy it too much pressure to learn everything very minimal training before starting work. the hours change and when you tell them your intentions about only wanting to be a part time employee they still book full time hours they do not work around schedules and they just dont seem to care much about their employees.. just my opinion in being there a short time. i tried it and well its just not for me!!!

This is a good place to work at. Everyone works together, management, activity aides, housekeeping, nurses and psws, etc, to provide the excellent care for the residents.
Problems with being short staffed a lot but name a long term care home that doesn't run short? You often get the option to stay late or start early so if you want extra hours you can get them!

Casual atmosphere, home like. You need not be afraid to approach management with any issues or concerns.

Staff are friendly.

A typical day at work is normally busy. There is a lot of time management involved if you would like to get out on time. What I have learned is that people have varied personalities and likes. Your co-workers are typically very nice and sociable. The hardest part of the job for me is getting everything done on time while trying to answer call bells and help out your other co-workers. The most enjoyable part is to see how you have helped people and seeing them happy.

Worked here for maybe a month and a half. They expect you to learn everything with minimal training and always bounce you around from wing to wing even if you were promised a line on a certain one. Book you full time hours when you’re only casual or part time. Management is not understanding. Must wear all white and nursing cap. RN I worked along side sat in office and did not offer adequate assistance when asked.

OVERRUN with agency workers who are disrespectful and incompetent (probably not even real PSWs). If you like working with people who cannot even be bothered to show you any respect or communicate during/before a shift then this will be your second home lol.

Since starting at Fiddicks, I have advanced in my career. I have had nothing but great experiences with staff and management. The residents are the sweetest and the whole building is my second home. The owner will do absolutely anything to make sure his home is running right, he will give you the shirt off of his back. Nothing but the best at Fiddicks
