If you are looking for a rewarding and engaging company, this is the place to be. They are rated as one of Toronto's best employers for a reason. They are located next to a major shopping centre, subway, go transit, and in the financial district. Above ground or under ground, choose your path every day to and from work, everyday is interesting. I believe the company tries to achieve a good work life balance, and they can live up to that. 
This job requires a lot of reading various forms that come in by mail or fax from many different investment companies, and need to be processed. Its pretty convenient in that they are scanned, and you can see the items on one screen, and the software that helps you input the information in the system on the other screen. Teams are large in terms of employee to supervisor, but it works out well in that senior employees help out the new ones, and the whole team manages to get all the incoming mail and faxes done by the end of the day. If information is missing or requires verification due to clarity, you may need to send a fax or contact who sent it in to amend. Management will grade you on productivity and quality (mistakes), and given the time you are there, you will have to learn new types of transactions at a good pace, until you get to where senior employees are. I think that the work environment promotes teamwork and communicating among your co-workers, as some of the work done during the day does get reviewed by anyone of them who chooses your work and is qualified to correct it if it needs to be. 
The processing department had about 60 employees when I was there so kind of large.

Pros:

-Free coffee

-Clean site

-Easy access to transportation

Cons:

-Office politics-be ready to be constantly criticized by your " managers" whom you will see once in a while. They do not partake in training you, they will not help you and they will not go out of your way to do any of these things. They will talk behind your back with your trainers.  They will criticize you on contradictory things such as not asking questions and then turning around and saying you have been asking too many questions. Again, these are not first hand accounts but things they've been told from trainers who pretty much do their jobs for them.

-Ridiculous performance measurements-Your performance will be measured by your "manager". While not an issue in itself,  you will be marked on things as ridiculous as whether you're talking with people in office and as mentioned, they won't be around to give you an accurate mark. These also includes marks of whether you are "creating new processes" to help with tasks even though that is the prerogative of the education department/managers and this is required even of new hires with barely any knowledge of the system.

-Sabotage-your "managers" will deicide early on who to train and who not to train. You will see people in your cohort be leagues ahead, while you won't be trained at all. Meanwhile, colleagues of mine have been given bad advice by their managers such as not doing certain tasks which meant they did not reach their goals and therefore their contracts were not extended.

I think the company is actually a good company to work for.  They seem like they try to be employee friendly which is great.  The in-office requirement of one day a week was great as well but not very good for building a team dynamic or making connections with co-workers.

The managers that I had were ok.  My team members were somewhat helpful at times but not the friendliest or most welcoming people.  Not mean; just unfriendly.

One of the major problems was the training.  I came from outside with industry experience and the training was abysmal.  It was far and away the worst I've ever experienced.  There were no shadowing opportunities and I finally got a training session about 4 months after I started which was useless by that time.  A follow up training session was scheduled for eight months after I started.  Again, totally useless.

The interview and onboarding processes were fantastic and the best I've ever encountered.  Unfortunately, that was the only highlight of my tenure there.  Maybe a different area of the company would have yielded a different opinion but I was completely disappointed with my time there and had just stopped caring by the time I started looking outside the company.  It's too bad because I was pretty excited to get the job there initially.

Working at Fidelity was very memorable. I learned a great deal about employer sponsored plans such as pensions and investment accounts, as well as the benefits of communication, teamwork, and leadership.

The hardest part of the job was the fact that I was switched around a lot due to my lower seniority. I supervised the evening shift for a while, then I was moved to the day shift to manage five consecutive new hire teams. However, this was beneficial for me because I was able to experience much more within a shorter period of time because of the constant rotation of personnel.

The management and staff at Fidelity were outstanding. Fidelity did a great job of hiring smart up and coming employees from the work force. We had over 700 employees on site; many of which were around my age group. It was a tremendous experience learning and growing with them.

A typical day at work would start at 9 am and finish at 5pm could start earlier and finish earlier if discussed with manager. During busy season expected to work overtime  with occasional weekends not mandatory though. Management in most cases treats you well. Everyone mostly friendly, helpful and approachable. Can be fast paced, stressful at times  and are required to meet certain criteria and follow guidelines, procedures and policies of company. Dress code  is usually business casual except on Fridays when your able to wear jeans. Best part of job is working with great people. Must realize this a financial institution where job security is dependant on markets.

It is sad that I here they no longer operate in Canada they are truly an ideal Company to learn grow and raise a family.
A day at work is busy and different almost every day. The incentives pour in so often that you almost start to ask yourself if you are truly deserving of them.
But all and all it was a serious position dealing with both bitter and sweet life events of customers desperately in need of a helping hand at a crucial time of their lives.
It was very fulfilling to be of service to a population of clients, while working with a team of such amazing co workers, managers etc.
 
Whenever I think of the perfect work experience, this company always comes to mind.

The focus of my position was to educate our customers on their healthcare options that where offered by their employer and remind them that they have partnered with a leading company. Our job was to deliver trust and confidence each and every time we had contact with the customer, client and their affiliates. As the Data Recorder Keeper of all active (employed), inactive (retired)  and ex-patriot (active employee working outside U.S.A) participant's information. We interacted actively to resolve data issues and interruptions in coverage with all vendors (Health and Life Insurance, Dependent Tuition Grants, Employee Extended Discount)

With many management changes in recent years, the toxic and "Yes Man" culture got worse. People are not often fired, but are pressured or threatened to move laterally or resign. Staff are often micromanaged in their work and behavior, including but not limited to, the use of time/work item trackers and physical surveillance. Benefits and certain compensations are good, but designed to keep you locked in. Overall, the company is ideal for those with little ambition in relative comparison as efforts do not fairly yield results.

The position I had was quite demanding. I was an RRSP season temp and in the busier months this requires a lot of over time. Meticulousness is crucial. However management is very collaborative. They want to see you succeed. I never felt like I was spoken down to. I never felt like I couldn’t trust the motives or speak openly with my superiors.  The work environment is very encouraging and team oriented. Pay, benefits and perks are fantastic. While Fidelity expects high performance from their employees they show you consistent appreciate in return. 

Call center environment with Training sector allowed you to meet many people from all walks of life.
Learnt a lot about American products and services.
Management changed a lot but for the most part was great and inspirational.
Co-workers were so incredible and still are good close friends.
The most difficult part of the job was dealing with ignorant mindsets.
The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to move up from call center to Human Resources and be able to train new hires on best practices.
