First Calgary Financial

There is was too many bad things to say about working at First Calgary. I would started off by saying that most of my opinions are based on my branch location and do not reflect how other branches are managed. When I first started, we had gone through multiple managers and ended up having no branch manager in our location for almost 3 months. Everything was running decently smoothly. Once we finally did get an authoritative figure in our branch, they were moved some few months later... A new manager was brought in (again), and it all went downhill from there. We have employees at the location I worked at that have been there for 5+ years and get treated like scum. So many empty promises on promotions, firing people for ridiculous reasons, managers taking zero accountability for their actions and putting the blame on their staff, can't seem to keep new staff on at all, and targets/goals that are not achievable whatsoever. There seems to be a trend of giving more work to some personal bankers while others sit on their butt and twiddle their thumbs... Random policies and procedures have been put in place that come from "upper" management but does upper management ever follow through out inquire with any other employees? Of course not. Favoritism is also very evident, branch mangers don't even set a good example and just act like huge hypocrites. Most staff are very unhappy and feeling the effects of a lazy manager. There is also zero opportunities to move up or promotions are given to others who may not be the best fit but brown nose the most. Their methodology of "making money make a difference" sounds good, but so many processes have changed and product pushing is the only way achieve the outlandish goals assigned to staff.

Ridiculous amount of paperwork along with outdated systems, processes and procedures means most staff are overworked and stressed to the point of resentment. This is not a good image for an organization that preaches strong community involvement and supports disadvantaged individuals. Too much focus goes on 'trying' to make this organization publicly appear strong and caring while behind the scenes it's only good if you are at a management level or higher. Connect First Credit Union needs to focus on all their staff and provide them with the work/life balance they deserve (follow ATB, they know how to treat their employees right!). If you are a happy employee at FCF you must be fortunate enough to actually have a competent manager (which is very rare). Can you say 'micro management', it's proudly their style.

working with First Calgary Financial is a great opportunity to meet new people and be very social which I find the most rewarding.
Being with the company for almost 8 years, I have learned a lot not only on the professional level but also personal.
I have liked most of my managers, but I also found some of them to be less competent than the others,
I have had great people that I have worked with and always tried to make the best of all my work relationships.
The hardest part of the job is the lack of recognition for the hard work that you do and being unfairly compared to others instead of recognizing the individual approach.
The most enjoyable part of my job is being with people, helping them and seeing success in their everyday work :)

The company used to be very locally focus on their members only. Very good with their staff and supportive but not anymore. as of 2017 up to date they start hiring stupid managers to run the branches, lazy very unsporting, gossipers, they give their work to small staff to work on it while they take the credit. you cannot move up if you're not on the manager's favorite list even if you're very hard working and professional person.  They start charging their customers even for summary print out. its just not a good company. they let good staff go just from a word of a mouth even if its not true. the sales targets is ridiculous. its just not the right company to work at

Not sure where or how they are hiring or training their branch managers but most of them do not have a heart. They are not leaders but old fashioned managers who do not care about the staff that they manage. Depending on the branch and the manager it can be a great place to work. It can be fun and challenging all at the same time. The most enjoyable part of the job is dealing with people/members as they can become like family.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Decent hours and benefits. Training was excellent 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Cliques, managers that don’t take the time to listen, more senior employees targeting new ones 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very poor. Extremely cliquey, managers don’t intervene, etc

The  most enjoyable part of the job is serving the customers.
The hardest part of the job is sitting idol with no customers. I prefer to work in a fast pace enviroment with structure and attainable goals
A typical day is doing nothing, sitting around. Business is not good
My co-workers are not professional in comparison to other Financial Institutions.

management does not stand behind their team.  They will throw you under the bus first chance they get.  They let the bottom quartile performers get away with doing nothing and getting praised for it, even get promotions, lots of nepotism going on here.  This company is a joke.

The experience I went through at First Calgary Financial was very enjoyable. Everyday at work we would learn something new and innovative idea's would be taken into consideration. I didn't feel like I worked for someone yet, felt that I am part of the organization it self. 
That itself demonstrates the value they hold for their employee's.

The culture of fairness and justice is accorded to everybody in the advancement of career and balanced lifestyle. Meritocracy is paramount in determining promotions, salary increases and bonuses.
