job is chill. like mind numbingly chill you either stand there and do nothing or are expected to make cold calls and sales to a morally uncomfortable extent. members can be nice but also cranky monsters. work ethic is at an all time low there for everyone, no motivation. i lost my love for fitness and healthy eating. its so so so difficult to find covers for shifts and the manager does not help with that at all; everyone works 4-5 times a week but 4 hr shifts so its understandably hard to get someone to come in outside of their scheduled work hours. even if you inform the manager a month+ ahead of time or BOOK TIME OFF THROUGH THE SOFTWARE THEY USE FOR TIME TRACKING they won't honour it.

colleague staff are very nice and always fun to talk to, thats why i applied in the first place as a former member i saw how cohesive the team was but everyone doesnt really enjoy working there. managers definitely seem overwhelmed and overworked 24/7 and only really care about sales numbers and not the wellness of the team at all. they kinda make it seem like its YOUR fault that prospective numbers are low, which i find a little silly since its out of my control if someone is interested in starting a "fitness journey" or switching from another gym to fitness world.

the training is also not thorough at all and guidelines are often not outlined, all the staff had been there for months and work often and still answer most questions with "i dont know, i'll contact my manager and let you know" 

Pros:

My job demands about 8-10 hours of work as an executive overseeing a large amount of employees. I LOVE what I do! I get to help a lot of young employees grow into high reward careers, as well as help managers advance within our company. 10/10 recommend this employer!

By the time you’ve walked the floor, talked to people, made cold calls to set up fitness assessments- and sold training 
You’re BURNED out 

The expectation is to find your own clients, on your own time.
You’ll often work 8-10-12 hour days to “work on your own business”
and take home less than 100$ 
There’s NO HOURY PAY only when in session or have a “non session hour”
The sales training in my opinion teaches you to be coercive and over step boundaries which I didn’t feel great about.

Our job is to tell people to manage stress, eat well, exercise and sleep properly 
YET the job doesn’t pay a living wage, causes stress which interferes with sleep- 

I feel If fitness world is taking 70% of a trainers income- it would be mutually beneficial to aliviate some sales pressure for the Personal trainers - 
And have a sales team to assist with cold calls, or booking assessments 




 

I’ve been with the company for about 6 months now, and it’s definitely been one of the more interesting jobs I’ve had. I work as a Member Service Representative, and the job is essentially to be the face of the company and to push sales. A lot of the business comes from brand recognition, but managers and CEO Chris Smith put a heavy emphasis on that we MSR’s (Member Service Representatives), are essential the support system of the company. I feel that the company should pay their dues with increasing the wages of MSR’s because of the amount of work they suggest we do and push us for. Besides that, the perks of working in a gym are very good, with a relaxed environment for the most part. Having a free membership is very nice too. Fitness World is a good place to work at, though it tends to relegate its employees as disposable. 

I get to work around 8:30am and finish around 6pm. I am currently a fitness manager at the semiahmoo white rock location, and I have learned a lot about how to be a better servant leadership. We build our work place culture family like and a winning culture. Every job has their own challenges and being a leader, the hardest part is to fully understand each individual team members needs. However, this is also the most enjoyable part of my job, because not only I can change member's life, I am also inspiring the next generation personal trainers. Inspire them to be the best personal trainers they can be and have them inspire more members and clients. One of the biggest reason I continue to work at Fitness World because I truly believe they are a top tear fitness and wellness company. Fitness world focuses on changing lives and being the best support for each individual. 

It’s an alright job but hard to get covers when you are sick the manager will try to help you find covers but if you are unable to you still have to go in even if you are very unwell. There’s for some reason always drama in my store between coworkers. I only really liked one coworker since he was actually chill and nice. Not only that but most of the time you will be the only one in the front so you Dont get breaks really so you can’t eat properly because they want you to stay in the front. So better eat before. Though at least it’s only 5-6 hours of work but that’s another problem my store specifically didn’t give good hours to give. Benefits are alright free membership and all. No raises though only small commissions like 2 dollar per membership you sell, and I’ll only go up after a certain amount sold. 

A lot of negative reviews I think are due to people not understand what the job inhales or are extremely immature. 

I'm a current PT and the Job/Managers give you the tools to be successful however, its not for everyone, its not a 9-5 its a service based job and yes they're is sales / marketing but this shouldn't be a surprise to the potential PT as you would need to do this if you were on your own anyway.

You're building off of nothing at first so it can be extremely daunting  getting started however the resources / continuing education resources are absolutely insane an abundant.

Come in with a good attitude, maturity and you will do well.
