What is the best part of working at the company?
The job is very laid back with opportunities to train in other areas such as cash and cafe, however, I will say management is problematic. The managers are young and clearly don’t have the experience of working in a professional setting. They talk poorly of their staff and of each other. It was a rather negative experience for me. If you don’t suck up to them you likely won’t get trained in other areas, which makes it difficult to gain skills for future jobs. The general manager is a 5,2 insecure person with a 6,0 stick up there you know what, who needs their father to drive him to and from work. I say this for people who want to be able to look up to their managers, to learn and grow from them and to say that it’s impossible to gain that working at flying squirrel. The assistant managers are attention seekers who enjoy talking poorly of other employees. They enjoy being fake to get attention, in modern linguistics their “pick me’s”. The managers also share the enjoyment of blaming employees for the situations they are responsible for or don’t care to understand the full picture. They will always choose customers over staff even if their employees feel unsafe or threatened. Now moving on from the honesty, something the managers could learn from me, the staff are wonderful people, very friendly, kind and supportive. I was lucky to meet some great people. The people you get to work with out-way the negativity of the managers. I’m grateful for those I got to meet. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The job isn’t that stressful majority of the time the customers are kind and understanding. I met some very sweet people working there. For those who worry about stressful this is not a job you have to worry about. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management is negative, I suggest being kind to them but avoid getting involved in the unprofessional behaviour. Staff is great I had a very positive experience with the employees. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day is getting ready for your shift. Getting attitude from the managers or in most cases getting ignored. Then working  shift. Talking to customers and employees. Clocking out and enjoying that my shift is over.

I recommend Flying Squirrel Ottawa to all students in the area. It's a good March break job, it's even better for a summer job, and it's a great part-time job in general. I worked there for a year and a half and never had a bad experience. The management is very nice and welcoming, they're friendly and make you feel at ease once you get used to the work.  (The big boss is even nicer than the supervisors). The employees are also great because they're all from the same generation. There are a lot of young people working here, which makes work more relaxed and less stressful. 

However, the small negative I can say is that there is favoritism because most of the employees are connected, either to a family member or a close friend. On busy days, there can be a lot of hustle and bustle and people, which makes work intense at those times, but honestly, if you do well and get the job done, it's fine. Be prepared for angry or annoying parents and insults, but at the end of the day, they've signed a waiver and it's not your fault lol. 

There are several positions, which is what I liked best. Court monitor is the worst because you're on your feet for long hours watching the kids, cashier is the second worst because you have to deal with angry parents all day and you have to clean the front of the store, but the other positions are super cool. (Kitchen, Rockwall attendant, Softplay attendant, ropes course, party host and more) 

Flying squirrel is a overall cool place to work! The staff are incredibly friendly, although some do lack in training- but they still are helpful and respectful! During my time at the company I learned a lot of in's and outs, about both trampoline facilities and other businesses! There always seems to be a big turn over, as both for management and staff- it is common that they will let you go without cause, or just before your three months. Once you are let go, 99% of the time you are unfortunately black listed from working at any other location. As management comes and goes you do find that shortly after there is a big turn over in staff as rules are changed or added. The overall culture of the work place is what I felt was a second home, near the end however was continuous drama and just wasn't the best place. The hardest part of the job was the hours, as you are there until the job is done appropriately, some nights you are out on time and other you are there excessively late. Although there were some less desirable things about this job, its a great, fast paced environment, with a magnificent amount of costumer interaction.

This job was an absolute nightmare. Management is completely unprofessional, rude, and toxic. Out of the three managers, none of them seem to be on the same page. one will tell you to do something, and another will yell at you for it, then single you out and treat you differently the rest of the day. It feels like they go out of their way to make employees uncomfortable.

The favoritism is blatant. If they like you, you can get away with anything. If they don’t, you’ll get written up for breathing wrong. There’s constant gossip, petty behavior, and passive-aggressive comments. from the managers. They act more like mean girls than leaders, creating a hostile and mentally draining environment.

They micromanage everything, expect perfection, and treat people like they’re disposable. You’re not allowed to do anything unless you want to be accused of “slacking.” It’s so demoralizing that I genuinely had to convince myself to show up for my shifts. No job should make you feel that way.

Save yourself the stress — this place is a joke.
especially for the young developing minds they hire to take advantage of 

Flying Squirrel was my first "actual" job and I couldn't think of a better job to recommend to someone who is just starting out. The managers are very friendly and work very well around your schedule. If you are a 'people' person I would recommend this job to you, also if you enjoy kids. It was a good balance of a fun work place but also the management still made sure you pushed and disciplined yourself to do your best. If you do a good job and show that you are passionate about your job then you will get promoted to high ranks or get trained on other positions. Overall, this was a great experience for me and I wish I didn't have to leave.  

Management needs work, there is no consistency or structure. It doesn't help that there is a new manager every few months.

Not a lot of room for advancement, and the pay is low, no benefits. However, for the most part, depending on your position (I worked as a cashier and court monitor), the job can definitely be fun. This job is most suitable for teenagers and students (as it offers flexible part time hours).

Reasonable job expectations overall, reasonable rules and dress code.

Customer service comes first, but the job also includes A LOT of cleaning. 

I wouldn't work here again, but I am glad to have been a part of the squirrel family.

I worked as a party host most of my time there, but I did get trained to work almost every position. The coworkers were really friendly and each day was different. The tasks were never too difficult and the day usually went by fairly quickly. Some of the positions could be a little boring as there wouldn't be much to do and weekends or holidays can be rough, but nothing that made me want to stop working there. Making tips as a host was really nice too. Only real down side is that your odds of advancing to a higher position were slim to none and I don't recall any talk or raises. Good job if you're a student.

past all the screaming parents and crying kids it’s not as bad of a job. management is great there’s like 4 of them so your bound to love at least one if not all. lots of amazing workers there too. if you work hard you get recognized for it. it can be slow some days and other days it’ll be busy and hecktic but managers are always there to help. only thing is they don’t hire full time employees so no benefits, only one 30 min break, and inconsistent scheduling. your also monitored at all times, there’s ppl always watching you on the cameras and becuase it’s a fun park, there’s cameras watching every corner of the park so no slacking.

Flying Squirrel is a great place to work at,  especially if you're young and looking for your first job to gain experience.  Great stepping stone into customer service and interpersonal communication given that you break out of your shell and interact with customers.  Fun,  upbeat,  fast paced environment with a team based work ethic.  Staff and management are great.  

As cashier you have to clean the entrance/check in area as well as the bathrooms. Weekends get super busy and you get some pretty angry and impatient customers. The ticket system makes no sense so customers will naturally get mad at you for it. The managers spend an awful lot of time talking talking with each other and other staffs instead of actually doing work. Quite a few employees are family of managers/office staff and there's definitely some favoritism going on there. Overall it's not the worst way to get some job experience and make a few bucks but I can't imagine working here long term.
