I had been with Flynn for around 2 years as a general labor in the sheet team, started from completely 0-knowledge about it. Like every other companies that I had been with, what you feel really depends on who you work with there. In Flynn's construction sites, I had been working with some of the best guys that I had ever been with, also met some of the worst guys. It is totally understandable that a few of the co-workers can not be always peaceful and respectful. I usually tell my self to keep cool and polite when there is conflict or misunderstanding. This skill could be helpful to make anyone to go a long way.

To give fair comments to a big company who is running on construction field, I would focus on 4 things: salary, training, safety, management.

(1) Salary: their salary system, group insurance and beneficial are transparent and easy to understand. They paid in time weekly. Whenever there is an error, I speak to the forman and they correct it in the next paystub.  

(2) They provide in-field training. I learn from other journeyman and forman. They also sent me to learn fall-protection and lift operation in class to get tickets.

(3) Like all other big companies, Flynn cares about safety, not only because the authorities require so, but also because it is essential to run huge and multiple projects over the North America. They supply abundant safety utilities and tools. They keep improving their safety assessment  procedures even some of them seem ridiculous and unnecessary, but as you can see they do want to avoid any accident and injury. 

(4) Management. Nothing to complain about this since I do not have too many chance to speak to the office guys except superintendent and HR lady. They are experienced and professional, response very fast. I received a card in my birthday with signatures of all of them. There are annual Christmas event and occasional BBQ meeting. 

Based on my experience I would highly recommend you to consider flynn to continue or start your career as a construction worker.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the few supportive people who still work there. The workplace culture in the office is absolute garbage. Management will comment on your appearance, and belittle you for genuine mistakes. They will expect you to do everything on your own with a sink or swim mentality, usually ending up in sinking because no one ever teaches you the proper processes. ZERO STRUCTURE, and unless you're willing to drink their cool-aid then they could give 2 sh*ts about you. 

Superintendents are very knowledgeable, fun and supportive, they are always willing to help the team when required and have an absolute wealth of knowledge. If only the company could get their upper management in order, it would be an awesome place to work. 

organize manpower and material as required to finish days obligation, make sure safe work place rules are followed, keep crew upbeat by telling them how well the job is going and that they are doing good work, advise management of any problems encountered during the shift and what was or could be done to rectify the problem, keep engineering firm on top of progress, meet with building owners daily to explain our daily progress was the most enjoyable part of the job, the hardest part of the job was keeping up on the change orders implemented by engineering firm, as this would have to be directed to workers and sometimes involved changing the way things are being done which did not go over well with the more experienced people on the crew

I agree with others. Their promises during the hiring process turns out to be false. Superiors' proficiency of the job are in all directions which results to inconsistent work structure. I rendered overtime on some days and juggled my own deadlines while accomplishing an assigned task meant for a supervisor, which surprisingly, none of my more incumbent colleagues did or were trained for....yet I was unexpectedly "let go" after a month of hard work. Like others, I was blindsided.

I found out that getting fired with no notice and zero coaching is not just a recent occurrence, but has been going on for years to both field and office personnel. Employee support, job assignment, and pay disparity are heavily influenced by workplace politics and cronyism. I definitely regret putting a lot of my time and trust on them during my stay. Find a place that would appreciate your worth.

Days were typically pretty long. Hard work and heavy lifting, but at the end of the day, seeing what was accomplished was rewarding. I learned a lot about team work, improvising, but still maintaining quality work. Management gave us a baseline of what had to be accomplished but overall it was a lot of thinking on your feet and improvising, because things never went the way the way they were supposed to but the job had to get done, so you do the best you can with what you have. The people I worked with made the job that much more enjoyable. lots of laughs and good time, which seemed to get the work done so much quicker. The best part of the job was the heights. Working on the edge of a building 100 feet in the air. There is nothing like it.

Am an overseas worker brought over by Flynn just over 8 years ago and can say honestly that no other company matches the work load Flynn takes on (high profile projects) and Advanced opportunities. As with any company you have pros and cons but pros out weigh cons with Flynn, couple of examples: full time work - year round in the glazing dept, paye with out fail every week, lots of OT if interested, all safety training provided- with paye and just under 10% vacation paye added to your salary each week,  the list goes on. All I can see that’s really asked as a must is that you show up and are willing to work as an individual and in a team. As with any company comes rules and polices all that’s asked is that they are followed and your time with Flynn will be grand.

Ive always looked forward to working for Flynn being a roofer until i got there.. St Johns branch of Flynn is a JOKE... giving that big company such a bad name..right from the office to the roof top .. they tell you everything you want to hear to get you there until your there and realize its the complete OPPOSITE.. 

Poor management completley... its all abunch of cut throat hillbillys 
Pays good but they never work and when they do all they do is smoke pot all day.. i would not reccommend working for the St Johns location to anybody . As for most other branches i would give a complete opposite opinion. 
A higher power really needs to filter through the personel and get new employees there asap.. they lose more guys then they can hold.. not a healthy work place at all.

Toxic workplace culture. Directors and VP's will literally yell at people in the office.

Lots of layoffs around end-of-season, when the work dries up. The best people find better companies and never come back. The worst people come back, because Flynn has enough work in the busy season that they'll take anyone they can get. This is why substance abuse and safety infractions aren't taken seriously.

Flynn talks a big game about safety and culture. They over-communicate how good it is, as if that makes it true.

The company and people working in the office are very supportive when it comes to training and getting anything we need to do our jobs including tools and safety equipment. The safety program is very good and training is taken seriously. Flynn is a large company and with that comes large recourses for growth and the experience to get jobs done correctly. My experience has been a positive one feeling like I am part of the team almost immediately and people being helpful and resourceful whenever needed. I look forward to future growth and contributing to the team at Flynn Victoria.
