A typical day at work here starts with the punch clock and being there a little early, I'd always find myself saying hello to everyone on my way in as well, which always made me feel very welcome. I'd check the schedule for any changes and then made my way to the front end. From there, I would switch out on till with my co-worker so she could go do her stock & place her orders and I would page her to the front if any further assistance was needed. Most of my job was spent working with minimal supervision unless I needed help also depending on the day, I wouldn't need supervision at all. When there weren't many or any customers I would go and help my co-worker with stocking the shelves and whatever else needed to be done while also working cash as needed, I also ALWAYS maintained a clean work area, when given ANY time I would utilize that time to sanitize. I would also answer the phone and page whoever is needed or if there was no manager available I would take messages and put the messages on said managers desk. In between this whole routine, depending on how busy it is I would help put through Sears catalog  parcels and payments and also Steam cleaner rentals as well, when I was busy on cash I often paged certain co-workers or manager (who also manages Sears catalog orders) to help in this situation. The hardest part of the job was doing grocery orders for seniors apartments on Fridays because we put through some of the customers who need things delivered through the cash register as we do every other customer, this process involves finding a box and separating the cold and frozen in bags and putting the rest in a box with an address and how many cold & frozen bags are with the order. I always have to find the right time to set the order aside and go to the coolers with the cold items or if not, a co-worker whom has more roaming time to do it brought the cold and/or frozen items to the coolers as sometimes work would be too busy for me to do so. From this I have learned how to multitask and communicate better to both customers and coworkers!  The enjoyable part of the job was of course, the small town feel, the friendly and understanding people who came through all the time and made my days there great! If it weren't for these people I wouldn't be as bubbly and friendly at a till (or in general) as I am now in fact, if it weren't for having a job as a cashier I wouldn't have nearly as many skills gained at all . Management was great as well, as they dealt with employees almost like they would family even down to the smallest situation to figure out, they would put in the patience, understanding and a little assertiveness needed to get things done! It was definitely great working there and if I didn't have to move, I would have kept on working there! Great experience and lots of skills gained and the responsibilities that gave me those skills to begin with have set me out on the right path as a person and employee.

Be prepared for a unpleasant experience .  I was hired as a cashier but then put on deli as well. There is very little health and safety training.  There is very little training of any kind . I was put to work  waiting on customers the first five minutes I started and a week later  was handed  a couple health and safety booklets by another employee .  She told to fill out the back and bring them back the next day. I was left alone to use the meat slicer on my first shift in deli while my co worker /supervisor went on  her break.  I was told if paper work in the deli was not filled out by previous shift I was just to fill it out so no one gets in trouble from management. Things such as temperature reading of the fridge and freezers. How often the water with disinfectant in the bucket for wiping down counters and the slicer were replaced with fresh water and disinfectant .I had never used a commercial meat slicer in my life . Sometime  ago  I walked in there as a customer and seen a mature cashier  yelling at a 16 year old in tears. I was bullied humiliated and degraded by this same cashier myself  in front of staff and customers.  I addressed it with the Manager I was told to be act like an adult. So I did what any 54 year old mature adult would do removed myself from the entire work environment.  Reported them to the the Health and Safety Board.  Knowing from experience no minimum wage part time job is worth the stress of a work place like that.  I worked there total of 3 weeks part time . I will not even go in as a customer anymore

A typical day of work at Foodland is very routine, and I do basically the same tasks every shift. It consists of emptying the entire meat counter ( over 60 types of meat ), cleaning everything, and then dating and rearranging all the meats back into their place. Then I prepare sandwiches and hot meals and price them to put out in the store. I also do a lot of cleaning throughout the day and serving customers. The hardest part about this job is that it can be busy when there is a line of customers and you are the only person working. Sometimes you have many tasks that you need to do but you always need to focus on serving the customer first, which can be stressful. The most enjoyable part for me would be meeting so many customers and talking to them about all different kinds of things. I love meeting new people and sometimes that one customer can really make a positive impact on my day! For the most part I only work with my manager, because I am one of the only deli employees that works mornings, most of the other girls work evenings. Honestly the management at this location is not the best and I do not feel like the owners care about their employees. For example when I had an issue with my payroll it was very difficult for me to get the help I needed, and when I finally did get to speak with someone, they were not very friendly.

I did however learn a lot in this job such as how to make lots of different meals, and amazing sandwiches!

I enjoyed my time at Foodland, it taught me a lot about what is expected of an employee at a legitimate company. The job helped me improve my punctuality and customer service skills, as well as teaching me skills such as how to receive a truck and keep track of inventory. 
During my shifts I would keep the shelves full of product to ensure that customers would be able to get the item they needed, as well as making sure my assigned area was clean and tidy. They were typically four hour shifts and could end up being quite rushed if there was a lot to do. This sometimes involved having to receive trucks, prep food such as coring pineapples and shucking corn, as well as stock the shelves. This helped me work under a pressured environment and taught me the value of having to work fast but efficiently at the same time. This was also the hardest part of the job because of the fast-pace, sometimes I would have to stay late to finish the job but that was to be expected if everything was not ready by the time your shift was over. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was the knowing I was gaining valuable employment skills as well as developing relationships with managers and co-workers. This made it an enjoyable place to work at even when it was stressful.

The grocery industry is an interesting experience to have under my belt.  I work in the meat department as a meat clerk.
 
A typical day at Foodland would consist of me removing expired meats and then assisting my manager with the beef, pork, chicken, and fish that is needed for the counter.  My manager would do the cutting while I wrapped and priced everything accordingly. 

My management responsibilities are to write and place orders throughout the week for chicken, fish, and more.  I am also in charge of managing the core temperature for our counters and freezers.

My coworkers are are hardworking but I feel as if they lack communication skills amongst each other at times. They do their job without question.

The hardest part of my job is probably that I don't all the time in the world to get everything done.  On Sundays for example I am in charge of the store until noon.  I would have to handle every single price check, make sure the milk section in the grocery department is fully stocked, and still handle my work in the meat department.  It's no easy task but I find it rewarding and that the store manager can trust me with this responsibility.

I think the most enjoyable part of my job is that I get along so well with my co-workers.  My employer and employees know how to separate their personal lives from their professional lives.

A typical day at work for me is interacting with customers and giving them superior customer service. I've learned a lot about how to inter-act with other and manage a business successfully. While managing a Dollarama store, I was one of the top 3 most productive stores in southern Manitoba for our region. I believe in treating people fairly and with respect. I treat others as how I would like to be treated, not only in business but on a person level as well. I believe in positive re-enforcement. If someone is doing an exceptional job, I let them know as such. It give people a good feeling about their performance and their work place.
The hardest part of the job I thing is trying to accommodate everyone. People are pressed for time and sometimes it take a bit longer to get everything done. Unfortunately, sometimes it can't be helped. But, the most important part of this challenge is to make the customer aware and comfortable with the situation. Something I'm very adept at doing. I feel the most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the customer leaving with a smile on their face, knowing that they will come back and referring our business to others. Word of mouth is one of the best methods of advertising. Exceptional customer service equal repeat customers and thus ensure more business in the future.

I arrive and receive my objectives from the manager, or receive a list outlining everything that I can work on until the end of my shift, or I am told to go find a co-worker and assist them with various jobs. I am required to wear an article of clothing with the Foodland logo on it provided to me by the employer, as well as black jeans.

I learned how to take temperatures with an electronic reader, stock food and beverage items, face up and face down (in retail terms), provide customer service, collect my pay stubs, dispose of garbage, recyclables, and compost in their appropriate areas, break down boxes, post wet floor signs, clean the meat packaging room, mop properly and close the store down.

Management at Foodland is very accommodating for both young and inexperienced employees.

Co-workers at Foodland are very diverse and some of them establish friendships outside of work as well.

The hardest part of this job was trying to accommodate the unique product needs of different customers.

The most enjoyable part of this job was satisfying customers and getting to know my co-workers and management.

My day started at 7am, meet with all department managers to discuss sales so far in the week, help develop strategies to boost sales to beat the same week in the previous year. Cashiers arriving at 8:30 so issuing cash floats. Most morning spent in the office doing sales reports, doing the planned qualities of product needed for the next week flyer. Preparing bank deposits from previous day sales. Scheduling staff shifts, doing planograms for next week sales.

Learned that you need to surround yourself with good people when you running a large operation. Your staff are your most important asset and they need to feel appreciated.

The hardest part of the job was losing a good employee and trying to find a replacement.

The most enjoyable part was having customers coming to you with compliments of the wonderful, friendly staff you have and they look forward to shopping at my store.

I would start my day by helping in the beer store by putting away all of the stock we had recived then would continue to filling up stock within the grocery section of the store. After lunch i would help with the whole sale by stocking the shelfs with what we had recived. I would then create displays of items that were on sale so they were visable. I would then take out all of the empty beer bottles to the bunkers out back and stack them for when the beer truck comes to pick them up. As my first job i learned how to work well with a team and that asking questions is always better than just going ahead and doing something your not sure about. Management was great we always got along and always helped eachother out where needed. The co-workers were much older than me but we always had a good laugh and always got out job done by the end of the day. The hardest part of the job was the days where we were over staffed and there wasnt enough to do for everyone. the best part of the day was working with everyone there.

It felt like I was working an assembly line in the bakery department. 99% of the job was putting frozen cookies and bread dough onto baking trays and putting them in the fridge to be baked the next day. Most of the actual baking jobs are reserved for the adults who have gone to culinary school and such.

The lack of engaging work and the repetitiveness of just panning up frozen dough made my job extremely slow and boring and working even a 5h shift felt like an eternity.

Aside from the work being extremely bland, the employees and managers are all extremely nice and the hours are very flexible.

As a student and as my first job I wasn't really expecting much going into the bakery but it really is just a dreadful and bland experience for bare minimal pay.

If slow paced and boring jobs are your type of thing I say go for it, but as a really socially adept person I dreaded going to work every time I had a shift scheduled due to it being EXTREMELY BORING
