Force Inspection Services

When I first began work at Force Inspection Services I did not know what to expect. What was also unapparent to me at my time of orientation, was that I would be covering much of the oil territory in BC/Alberta/Saskatchewan to carry out my work and within that year I would travel more of Alberta than most people do their entire lives. I began as a simple laborer, rigorously cleaning rig tubular in the unforgiving Albertan winter until I climbed the ranks and was put on an out of town deployment crew where I quickly advanced to a Lead-hand role. We travelled to rigs and rig storage yards all over the province to carry out NDT (non-destructive testing) on Rig Tubular's and equiptment. The work was physically draining and a normal out of town inspection spree would have us work 14-30 days straight for 11-14 hour days outdoors. Winter was our busiest season and I didn't see much of home. The company offered great incentives for advancement and the owner knew each employee by their name and treated them with respect and gave everyone a chance to move-up. Training and courses were paid for by the company and a good career could be made out of this growing oilfield business. Unfortunately I decided to end my employment because I found the work too repetitive.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very flexible hours and attendance requirements  for salaried roles. 
Lots of overtime available for hourly if willing to go out of town. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Executive and branch management making knee-jerk reactions with no mid to long term planning, causing a lot of extra work and uncertainty for individual contributors 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very stressful, political, and not much accountability. Hourly employees have minimal say in how work is executed. Very barbaric approach to safety and operations execution. The only ideas that are heard are from the executive level and are very out of touch from anything the business actually needs. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not much direction or plan to work towards. In salaried roles there is a lot of short notice deadline work shuffled around between departments but not much gets done. Hourly employees can expect to have no direction given to them and work with aging assets and equipment with little to no notice given that overtime is required as nothing was accomplished during the actual work day.

In my personal opinion, based on my experience this is the worst managed company I have worked for. They have so many people leaving and care so little about employee retention thet they even streamlined their "exit interview" to a 5 minute emailed form. Equipment breaks down and they don't want to spend the money to fix it properly, and still complain when production is slow. As well as they don't pay that great considering it's the oil industry, so unless there's overtime you're not making much, and when there is overtime you're basically working 12 hour 6-7 days a week so you have zero work/life balance just to make decent money there.
The one good thing is that the operations manager and supervisor I worked for both had a wealth of knowledge, were very understanding and always willing to train and answer questions and the guys on the floor are all good to work with. I can say I learnt a lot about the industry quickly in my short time there.

Force Inspection services is an alright place to work but the upper management is where the issues arise... there is no worker appreciation. They tend to provide the workers with false promises and opportunities to advance which never arises. The work is very repetitive and draining, there is no appreciation for hard workers nor is there any acknowledgment for the above and beyond workers who genuinely care about production. This company is a perfect example of a under payed and understaffed work environment... the company is well aware of the situation but does not seem to care wether the workers stay or leave due to being underpayed/overworked which is the reason my employment ended.

Over the past year there has been lots of change to management. Key employees seen a need for change in order to grow to another level and opportunities arose and force took action. This place is forever growing and adapting. Unbelievable accomplishments over the last few years. Of course there is hills and bumps you need to cross in order to fulfil your goals but Force is on the right path. Not everybody is cut out for the success of this place and it takes drive and heart to finish any battle. So if you think you have what it takes then I would check it out!

This company is evolving at a fast speed, and if you are an ambitious employee, there will be a lot of opportunity for you to grow. I’ve experience that myself only from being at the organization for a little over a year. The benefits package is really comprehensive compared to other companies in the oil and gas industry and the salary is really competitive. Of course not everything is about money and having a supportive team that actually cares about your personal developments is a plus.

Management, all the way down to the lead hands

The work environment is toxic, but a few of the workers are nice.

Frustrating with the lack of communication and leadership.

Great place to work. Safety is their number 1 priority. Fast paced. Clean working environment. Casual atmosphere. Friendly co-workers that take time to teach new employees. On the other hand, I was told that employees laid off due to COVID would be called back...I'm still waiting..it's been 2 years now.

No work/life balance. Day offs are optional. U wake up, go to work, get off work and go back to sleep. You basically live to work for them. Cant have day offs or management will cry about it and then all eyes are on you when you get back. If you want to have a life dont work here. They never follow the employee standards code. You are on your own.
