1. My interview was so awkward and the manager tried to make me do math off the top of my head that most people wouldn't even know (coin rolls and stuff)
2. Even as a student, the hours were terrible - I was working like 15-20+ hours every single weekend on top of a few shifts during the week and it was really hard with school on top and there wasn't much I could change. 
3. I got paid by cheque but it was under the table in a sense without me knowing because when I requested my T4 at tax time (after I quit), the accountant pretty much told me to get lost because there wasn't a T4 coming and I had no clue I was working without it being claimed. 

It just was a weird atmosphere a lot. My coworkers were cool and we had fun but the manager I had was really awkward and weird with employees. Only thing you really have to be okay with is standing for a long period of time and weird characters coming in because you're not in a great area of London (I had to calm a situation down and kindly refuse to sell 2 people knives and bear spray because it was clear they were high on illegal drugs).

The title of the marketing assistant job is completely misleading. It is a graphic designer position with heavy use of Photoshop and InDesign and little HTML. Make sure these are strong skills you have going into this because the owner has high demands from her employees and producing high quality content in little time. The pay is minimum wage and will have no opportunity fo a raise. Very toxic and aggressive work environment. Stay far away from this position. The owner has no sympathy and takes nothing as a solid excuse for anything and will make you work long days to get task done.

A typical work day at Forest City Surplus is anything but typical. It is fast, on your feet and quick. You learn a lot about everything, literally this store carries everything, from camping to computers to airsoft. My co-workers are great and really help especially on the rougher days. The management of the store is good and really creative in their use of resources. I have a lot of fun working here while learning new skills and enhancing ones I arrived with.

Such a weird place, they have a lot of rude or weird-acting customers but no security in the store. 
I met some really nice coworkers but there were a few people in management that made everyone feel uncomfortable. 
It’s an okay place if you don’t have many job opportunities at the moment but for the same minimum wage, you can find places where you will feel safer and less stressed. 

I worked there just a bit and quit because I found better job.

This is one place where turnover is high in all departments. Owner/ management do not care about their staff and pay minimum wage with no chance of a raise ( especially the marketing assistant which is making $4-$5 less then average marketing assistant in the city of London). The wife of the owner who runs the marketing department is cruel, mean and a borderline sociopath who bullies every marketing assistant to quit or fire them for no reason

A typical day at work would be showing up and working on cash, helping customers, putting away/pricing stock, cleaning cashier area. What I learned.... how to use a cash register. Management would work along side you so that was amazing. Co-workers were amazing and so polite. The hardest part of the job would be having 6 people at your cash register and you are the only one open. The most enjoyable part of the job would be to help and socialize with customers.

Regular cash work, really likes the girls I worked with. Everyone gets along with each other and there isn't much work place drama. 
It gets very busy and can be difficult to keep up, there's a lot of difficult customers and you get to meet some interesting people. 

Coworkers at the store are amazing, easy to talk to, will support you. Lower management is just as amazing. Upper management needs large levels of improvement. Turnover on the lower-level is high, expect to see open positions every time you look on Indeed.

Don't waste your time at this place, management is absolutely terrible, all a bunch of fake smiles soon as you start there, I wasn't trained properly and I get let go after only a week even though I showed up for all my shifts on time willing to learn, they gave no valid reason for my termination which is very suspicious and makes no sense, you're better off working at McDonald's than this place

Hardest part of my job: Packing shipments for return.

Enjoyable parts of my job: Being rewarded for my hard work.
