Forest Cliff Camp

Has the potential to be a great place to work, however has not reached it. Working at FCC was a very disappointing experience. I found it to be very oppressive and cliquey, and people who call themselves Christians certainly didn't work to include others or positively spread the message of God. As a 20 something year old with their own car, and not directly responsible to campers, I was flat out told "I was not allowed to leave the compound". Again, I was not responsible for campers and my "shift" ended at 7:00 pm. I felt uncomfortable and sometimes scared as if I was being held there. If you don't sing the same gospel songs the other staff do or pray as they do, you were made to feel guilty about it. I was given no orientation whatsoever, and if I asked a question I would rudely be told to figure it out. The food was absolutely terrible and unhealthy and staff should not be forced to eat with campers when they're off the clock. Not being allowed to have your own food was also very strange. Housing was terrible, health code violations and building structure issues were abundant. I had to put in my own window A/C unit in the summer months, and in the early spring the thermometer in the cabin hovered around 2-3 degrees at night and there was no heater provided. Also, lice outbreaks happened almost weekly. I personally called the local health unit and was told that although this camp should be shut down due to the unsanitary conditions and constant lice outbreaks, they just weren't. Overall, very oppressive and cult-like. I would not recommend this as a place to work unless you're just looking to have the experience listed on your resume.

Forest Cliff is a workplace with very low compensation and long hours due to the nature of summer camp. It was a great job as a high school student, but working there as a college/university student was not sustainable. The expectations are set very high for the level of pay and lack of time off. Some jobs at this company are very rewarding and can be very fun, but the management team cares way more about the level of fun for the kids than the well-being of the staff, and unfortunately a lot of staff don't return in future years for that reason. 

Depending on the position held there, the jobs can look very different. Very rewarding in their own ways, Forest cliff provides an amazing experience for young people attending camp, and an amazing opportunity to grow and learn important skills that will propel them into their future. All of my best and most moving memories have something to do with Forest Cliff Camp or the friends I have made there.

Volunteering as Kitchen Staff for Forest Cliff Camp was a once in a life time experience. Being around joyful kids, and other co-workers for 5 days is incredible, learning new skills each day, for example, social skills with children/staff, team work and communication with co-workers to finish a task on time, issue resolution, ect. And the best thing is, Kitchen Staff have the privilege to join in on camp activities.

It is an fantastic place to work with a great, christian atmosphere. It is a Christ-centered camp that does a great job of providing a safe and fun place for kids. The other staff are always so fun and friendly and I am still friends with many of the staff I met there! The days are busy and full (be prepared to be there all week as well), but they fly by. All and all, a great place to build a relationship with God, and with others.

-A typical day would start off with getting my cabin of kids ready for breakfast. After breakfast at the local chalet we would all participate in a variety of daily activities from horse riding to archery, stopping for lunch and dinner of course. After I would take my cabin to the beach for a swim then finish off the day with a fire under the moonlight.

If you want a job with purpose, this is the job for you. Fun is prioritized in this workplace, and management is looking out for your best interest always. We had weekly meetings to shout out our co-workers and list everyone's accomplishments, and I truly felt like I belonged there.

As a counsellor, I was in charge of one cabin per week, consisting of 10-12 children, with one other counsellor. Working at this camp provided me with a balanced and rewarding workplace, fun and supportive atmosphere, and kind/ friendly coworkers

Work was hard and gruelling for many hours. People are good, made good friends here. Bad pay for long hours and director wasnt always understanding of needs for kitchen and the staff in it - it's too small to feed the 300+ people we did every meal for the summer.

I was only a volunteer worker and thus have no opinion on salary or job security. I simply loved the tone of the camp and the way staff treated each other.
