Each location operates as its own entity with differing management styles.  That is, branch managers can be either stingy or generous in their offerings to their employees.  Management is always looking at inventory levels and may choose to stock out instead of carrying a part that has a long delivery time.

Technically, they are not skilled in areas that they should be, such as their hydraulic knowledge.  They let skilled people go in favour of people that give "yes" answers instead of the hard truth.  Counter staff are quite knowledgeable in certain areas, but huge gaps in knowledge exist and no one is able to fill that void, especially if those skilled employees have left or were dismissed.
 
When it comes to pricing, they would rather compete on price and not service and after sales support, so would always discount if the customer balked at a quoted price instead of espousing the merits of having a higher quality item.

They have great product lines and they're in a unique position to expand upon those lines, but choose to not chase those gold nuggets that await them, so I suspect they will lose market share due to their myopic sense of direction.

Good money to be made, but they can limit your income by not paying for items you represent and support.

A typical day of work here consists of trailer repair work. Management is very poor, there is no service manager and no lead hand/Forman. The mechanics are great people but they need leadership and guidance to get things done properly and safely. I was promised allot of Truck work here, but that never happened for me. This is a 90% Trailer shop, regardless of what they tell you in your interview. Hardest part of my job here was being required to train and oversee all the apprentices while still being required to bill out 8+ hours a day. I had several issues where I was asked to sign cvip inspections that were not completed properly, or repairs not completed at all for that matter. Managment is only concered about their profit margins. This place is a revolving door and I now understand why. Do yourself a favor and find a different home for your toolbox. 

Fort Garry was a great place to work for me.  I would have stayed there forever if the shop hadn't shut down due to the oilfield decline. Safety was important but not stifling as is the case in so many CORE environments.  Work was pretty steady and significant overtime was available.  Occasionally, in summer when work was slow, we were reduced to four day work weeks but this was rare.  The only drawback was the relative lack of respect for ticketed journeymen.  There were too many unqualified employees making decisions over licensed members.  The ratio of Red Seals to apprentices and laborers was disproportionate. Quality of product was reduced as a result. A degree of nepotism was apparent.

After them seeing that my job there was already too much for 1 person, they hired another guy to help, I had help for a day and a half then they moved the other guy to be a parts picker. I was never given the option to become parts picker, it was back to the shipper/ receiver job that was too much for one person. I worked there till I physically couldn't. Was told any time off would require a doctors note, which I provided, then they waited till I got back to work, work half a day then fire me. It was honestly a blessing in disguise. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to apply there

I have been part of the Fort Garry team for 14 years.  I loved coming to work,  worked the hours I wanted, got annual raises.  My only complaint is that supervisors give too many chances to staff who don't perform. 
My story is I've had serious health problems the past three years.  Management at head office and in Saskatoon have supported me every way possible.   Allowing me to dialysis at work, shorting my hours in order to get radiation treatments, helping me recover by allowing me to go on short term disability. 
Advice to all staff,  be a loyal employee, show up every day and always do your best and Fort Garry will be a loyal and supportive employer.
If my health would allow it I would be happy to get back to work.

The rate of pay, benefits and work schedule are good.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Most of the employees in the store like drama and creating a toxic work environment. Management has next to no desire to stop said behaviour.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work is easy and nothing is too difficult.

The culture is full of toxic behaviour and ultimately makes working for the company a terrible experience. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I assemble orders, help customers and put away freight.

FgI was a great place to work. But under new management it has changed.  The best part was dealing with customers

Lack of support from management and the toxciticy of some of the employees

Most employees are good to work with.  The new parts manager and the back sales lady are just rude. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get orders and pick product. Unload trucks when needed.

Terrible place to work as an apprentice if you want to do more than sweep floors. Dont have any ambition to learn, they dont want you to learn. One specific journeyman has a very short temper because of mental issues. Management expects you to know as much as a journeyman with only 2 months experience.  Just not very good company to work for as an apprentice. Not to mention it is one dimensional,  you will only work on trailers for the most part.

Good people to work with and wages where not terrible

Lack of natural sun light getting into building to dark in the winter

Lots of people working there for a long time management is pretty easy to get along with

Very relaxed no pressure things get done when they get done

This place is the most unprofessional place to work. They have no sense of loyalty. People who do there jobs and more are treated like dirt. The people who only do the least amount expected are just left alone.  Management can’t make a collective decision to save their lives. One certain manager thinks he runs the place and constantly threatens and bullies the staff. He yells at staff constantly. When it’s brought to management or HR they sweep it under the rug. Most toxic place I have ever worked.
