Coworkers are friendly, customers can be difficult to work with. Parameters set when dealing with clients are not followed by everyone and constant exceptions make it difficult to work and know what is right and wrong. Communication from leaders is respectful, but unclear. If you step out of line or do something incorrect somebody will let you know, but it is preferable to be made aware of what not to do, and who to go to for what before hand. I would say that leaders who would be able to give good advice or help are too bogged down with their own work, stifling growth in the process. Not enough hands available to do the work that leaders shouldn't be doing resulting in the leaders being unable to see the big picture and plan accordingly. Lofty ambitions fall flat when leaders cannot rise to the occasion because they are too busy focusing on the lesser duties. 

Typical day at work: Sitting for prolonged periods of time at the desk. Ability to tolerate various noises throughout the day (doorbell alarms, machinery, loud fans from the air conditioners in the freezers, etc) as well as getting used to the cold temperatures and still be able to work efficiently. Knowing Chinese is an extremely useful asset as it will help you understand and get along well with some of your colleagues, but most other colleagues can converse in English.

Workplace culture: Depending on the location you work at and your personality, it can be totally different experience for each person. Much applause to HR and admin in doing a wonderful job to initiate friendlier workplace cultures across all associated locations. 

Management: Very friendly and supportive, my direct superviser was available if I had any questions or concerns, very good focus on employee physical and mental well-being.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The urge of always improving yourself.
Since the Company and especially people are so great, you think that ''I need to do better to be a permanent member of this awesome company.''

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Amazing, managers are perfectly kind and always be there for you.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As great as it should be. 
You might never believe that but I have Personally choose to work at the office instead of WFH (Work From Home) since office has a very friendly and awesome environment and Work Stations are Perfect !

Management was a pain to deal with every day, extremely pushy and always demanding fast delivery and finishing routes much faster than physically safe to do so. You get no perks, respect just a hostile environment. Trucks all have issues and outdated, most wouldn’t pass safety checks but they have their own ways of going around it. Not safe but it does save them a ton. The newer better trucks are given to “senior” with the easiest routes and customers, while getting ridiculously better pay compared to others which doesn’t even make sense, knowing some of them had just been signed up to the company, guessing same culture has better chances? No equality, some workers treated like livestock. Horrible experience 3rd world experience 

I've been working for Fresh Direct for over 4 years  and every day, I learn something new. 

What's most exciting for me is the diversity of the products you'll see, depending on the season. It's like having a glimpse of the rest of the world just by walking in the coolers.

The company also has amazing staff who look after each other and are cross-trained, something that was very helpful during the pandemic. 
I look forward to coming to work everyday because it truly has become my second home, with my co-workers as extended family members. 

We take pride in the products that we carry, the work that we do, and the people we deal with. Overall, my life in the produce industry has become more meaningful since I started joining this company. 

 

Employed as a PT field sales representative for FDP Edmonton clientele - with the goal of providing ground level field support for the Calgary Account Managers. As I returned to post secondary FT, the my PT opportunity with FDP offered excellent flexibility, lots of support, great management, and a wonderful team to work with remotely during my 1.5 yr with the company. If you are looking for a great launching opportunity into sales and are interested in supply chain operations, FDP Calgary offers a great team to join into.

I've been with the company a few years now and have grown my skills a lot.  I love that they encourage you to keep growing and developing.  The company has changed a lot too in size and business, expanding.  The owners are great, they're pretty involved with the day to day, and are available to everyone.  

I also like my co-workers.  Everyone is pretty nice, and are very hard working.  When there's a problem, like a power outage or something, everyone pulls together and just make things happen.

Sometimes the hours are long, but I don't mind - the company is growing and I like what I do.   The people and growth keep me here.

Most of the verbal inter company communication is done in Chinese, not English. Direct manager had a terrible temper and would lash out at small situations, and did not know how to operate basic tech gadgets (use a computer properly, Skype, etc). Major power trip from upper management, and they did nothing to rectify any concerns that were brought up by employees. There were some staff members that were very catty (mostly the females) and gossiped a lot instead of focusing on their work.

Joined the company for one and a half years now. I have to say this is a very good company to work for, growing fast with an energetic management team, people are generally nice, managers nice too, people-care culture, all kinds of team events before COVID. Prompt and effective safety practices during COVID. I will definitely recommend my friends joining the company if skill fits.

It's a nice place to work at. Welcoming culture to new employees. It provides adequate training and growth opportunities. People are friendly, including the managers. The company has done some great initiatives and provided extra benefits to employees during the pandemic. Fast growing company with some growing pains.
