Fresh Prep

This company maybe used to be better but honestly management doesn't really care about us any more. they forced all people working the day shift to move to night shift or get let go, we don't have enough supplies, and the numbers are way too high. We don't get any free leftover produce any more. I don't feel like I can voice concerns to my supervisor either (he's pretty incompetent at addressing our concerns and rushes us because he wants to leave early). Our hours get cut a bunch, and when we do have a lot to do there's no opportunity for overtime. We don't have consistent breaks to stretch or use the washroom. It's really hard to have a good work-life balance as well when you're so exhausted from work and in pain from the tasks. Most of the people who were here before I joined and were there have left because the company is going in a bad direction. co-workers are usually nice but definitely some of the new people slack off and then other teams get punished for it with low performance reviews

Not a bad place to work, lots of benefits including free meal kit plan and extra food donations, company events. Work is okay, depends on the department and what you like to do. Most of it is pretty repetitive. Biggest problem is lack of space, made worse by everyone getting in the way because they're inconsiderate and don't pay attention and don't care about other people and departments. Hard to do your work sometimes when ingredients are delayed (not the company's fault usually) or baskets aren't clean (definitely the company's fault), but the managers are understanding. 
Be prepared to work with either loud machines or loud music. 
Coordination between departments can be hectic, but it's not mean. 
A fair amount of cliques between workers from different countries, some are rude. 
Lots of people don't care about hygiene and cleanliness standards as much as they should.

Generally not a bad place for someone without a degree. Easy to start and plenty of room to move around between departments and positions. Supervisors in the machine department are usually very understanding of delays and aren't as strict about meeting arbitrary deadlines/times as other departments. Machining department is a good place for using your brain a bit more and lets you get breaks while the machine runs (except some ingredients are very demanding) and more freedom of movement than other departments where you mostly stand and are constantly doing one repetitive thing.

Management at Freshprep is disappointing and inauthentic. Leadership and HR provide surface-level care for employees however, in situations requiring management intervention, decisions are made to benefit those in management positions rather than the people they employ. Even when I or others raised concerns to HR, nothing was done or people were let go with little justification. 
The company operates as a start-up and employees are expected to complete duties outside the original job description with little consultation or support. Despite promises of future bonuses or pay increases, they always get pushed back or deferred due to unreachable standards. Some managers are plain bullies but nothing has been done to support employees that are under them. 
Freshprep may offer a good product and some employees are great despite the toxic management. Work here if you need a job, but if you care about personal development, career growth or working for a company that values employees, this is not a place for you.

It was good while it lasted. Full-time employees like me used to have a full $54 meal plan per week. It is less now, just only $15 dollars a week. There used to be lots of donations  for employees to choose from every week on Thursdays. We received notice that donations will be less because the produce is being sold through a separate company. Used to be fun work with time to talk with the person next to you but now its all about numbers and fast time and will receive negative performance review if slow down. Maybe the company financially is troubled but employees receive the biggest cut. What used to make Fresh Prep attractive place to work is now same as any other food production company in the industry. The pay is not enough to make people stay, there is new people in the department almost every week. 

overall, freshprep is a good company with a future waiting ahead. But, they only have a vision on how will they improve on what they see outside. I am proud that I am working here and making a great effort to improve what needs to improve. we have lots of incompetent people that needs replacement. As a worker of night crew, you will see the difference between morning and afternoon. I still encourage people to apply if they want to challenge themselves into a fast pace, and stressful environment. 

The pay for hourly employees is really not fair. A support or lead can do ten times more work than the most basic packager or order picker and get paid barely more even close to the same. This is why talented people would rather do the basic and never advance since it is more responsibility for less pay. Then there is the problem of supervisors who manage the leads. They get paid way more yet they have no idea what they are doing and constantly try to cover up mistakes if it affects their numbers. If something to wrong it's always workers and leads who get blamed. Supervisors never at fault. When no one is taking responsibility for mistakes and actions its hard to see how to have environment that workers can feel safe and comfortable in.

All was good for a while, winter came and one day my car wouldn't start, received a stern message and never heard from anyone again, was removed from all work applications (slack, schedule, etc)

Overall, things started good, you usually make $25-$30 an hour but depending on your vehicle and days scheduled you may spend more on gas than you make, pretty autonomous and independent, most deliveries are trouble free (apartments are always the problem, and the worst place for delivering), get to listen to your own music/podcasts all day but I always got the sense that I was expendable and the way I was "fired" proves that

they give pretty good hourlty rate , give you perks such "donation" box to take home, always busy , fast pace  , and basic benefits after 3 month

they have 2 warehouse, one for grocery warehouse (meat, veggies, that locate at HQ( and dry warehouse ( rice, sauce, frozen food, frozen meat, juice, and add-ons ). since i was working for the dry warehouse , i found that other warehouse not doing their parts to keep the inventory checked. add-ons always messy, and blaming dry warehouse not sending their request for production. 

there is no 15mnts break after 2 hours, and maybe non-existence 

Management are a bunch of hypocrites. They will shout at you for not keeping 2 meters apart, but the social distancing guidelines go out the door when you are assign to work on their new kit, you will be hitting elbows with the person beside you, working cramped together at this tiny table. No barriers or anything to keep you or the person beside you safe.
The warehouse is very crowded with bunch of dirty baskets stacked everywhere, racks and pallets are all over the place, you'll be lucky not to bump into those. They have a bunch of cleaners but the place is always a mess. lunchrooms are dirty. 
Management only cares about themselves. Most people are afraid to speak up.


The director and management are a bunch of jerks that do everything to make your life miserable(when any mistakes happen they are quick to blame everyone but themselves) your rushed to complete orders and then they say your too slow and dumb when ever a mistake happens (it's basically a sweat shop!)
There's a group of liars/complainers who all gang up to try to get you in trouble over any little thing! (they think if they get you fired they'll be the next one inline for a promotion lol) 
Everyone is either angry or annoyed. 
Management has no clue whats going on and to top it off the head office can't even get your hours and pay cheque right.
