This store has not improved since starting here. Frankly, it is certainly run like a kindergarten. Management is a massive joke.

This place will not fire people for continuous outright blatant racism, sexism, and homophobia from the same employees even though it has a zero tolerance policy outlined in the training manual from the day you are hired. Incredibly disturbing. Demonstrates how desperation for workers comes at a huge cost to workplace culture. However, this is in part to do with the union in place which makes it incredibly difficult for people to get fired somehow despite this. Extreme "hush hush" culture. Often times the resolution is to just "not talk about 'xyz'". Do not attempt to befriend upper management. 

Constant enabling/enablers of toxic behaviours to be repeated by both employees and customers. Ideas are not taken into consideration because no one cares enough to make great changes. Needs are often met with temporary solutions. Saddest part about this job is seeing passionate or hardworking coworkers who are locked into difficult positions. Poor workplace relations are heavy in the atmosphere. You will feel a looming corporate presence.

As with all businesses in direct customer service, you will have both ends of the spectrum of customers: quite nice, and quite horrible. Get used to the awfully demanding customers, and treat the kind regulars with respect as many of them are seniors that become comfortable with you over time and just want to have a nice chat.

Smell on garbage and organic waste pickup and disposal day is ghastly. Store music playlist has been the same forever. Building is old, and elevator for the backroom can be difficult to manouvre if you aren't used to heavy lifting.

Best part of this job were coworkers you become close with. You are also close to the beach and park if you need to go out for fresh air and headspace during breaks. There is also a breakroom with functional microwaves and a kettle.

This job is ideal for students who don't wish to stick around for too long, or only want to work summer positions. For the latter, it's hard to spot the above written. For those who have been there for a while, it becomes an eye and ear sore. They have benefits available so as long as you have accumulated a certain number of hours which is great for those intending to stay longer term. Wages have increased by quite a bit since starting, but advancement is slow if you are not full time. You can get by if you're able to put your head down and work. Leave the job once you feel it has left you jaded and you have taken as much out of it as you can, and if you are able to find a new work environment.

Let me start off by saying - if you are looking for your first job this is a great place to start in the work world. This job is perfect for someone in high school looking for VERY few hours. 

If you are looking for a management position in this store, please do your research. Each manager at this company is on salary and you will be working so much overtime you’ll most likely be making less than minimum.

Overall the staff hired in this store are amazing there are so many great employees and managers in this company who have kind hearts and genuinely want you to succeed. That being said there is some weird posse between a couple of the managers that make it miserable to work there. 

I’ve seen so many amazing people come and go, it’s a shame because this could be the best grocery store in town if the owners decide to actually start caring for their employees and customers. Employees don’t even get store discounts, only coupons that have minimum purchase requirements before you can use them, so if you wanted a discount on your lunch break you’re out of luck.

The people that come from head office / other stores, have all been friendly and very helpful. I have nothing but good things to say about the company as a whole and the people running it. I have been to other locations and have had great experiences.

The reputation of this store has really gotten around town so decide if it’s worth it to you if you want to sell your soul. I have personally worked at multiple other grocery stores and nothing takes the cake like this one. Their turn-around right is SO SO high. Higher than any grocery store I’ve seen, not just workers but managers as well.



What is the best part of working at the company?
A great job for someone who is new to the country and a student. The hourly wage is minimum but you get good hours. Not very stressful hence you can give time to studies. Overall a chill job

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The customers can get you a bit stressful at times but then thats every place ever. Try not to take the stress home. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is nice, there used to be managers who were rude but then they left so hopefully now its better, colleagues are great as they are all students who are also new here so it becomes easy for someone who is just starting in Canada!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working at Cash was fun!
Opening the store, putting out newspapers, helping customers find stuff and sometimes meeting amazing people in the day, overall its a chill job.

My experience at Fresh St. Market was incredibly disappointing. What started as a positive and exciting job opportunity quickly turned into a toxic and demoralizing environment. The management team seemed more focused on plotting against employees than fostering a supportive and professional workplace.

It felt like they were constantly nitpicking minor issues or creating unnecessary drama to push employees out or find reasons to terminate them. Constructive feedback was rare, and instead of addressing concerns openly, they resorted to passive-aggressive behavior and unfair treatment.

I would not recommend Fresh St. Market to anyone looking for a fair and respectful workplace. Employees deserve an environment where their voices are heard, their efforts are appreciated, and growth is encouraged—not one where they're made to feel disposable. 



Management is terrible and very clicky. Store leader never gives you feedback and will stab you in the back to make others happy. Huge turnover in younger staff as they are all over worked. Lots of cleaning and customers can be very demanding. Basically I do not recommend working here for a plan to grow and advance, they almost make it impossible to move up as they seem to always go externally and tell you your not ready but use you when they need the body/support. Also good luck on proper breaks senior staff judge you and management won't pay you for not taking them it's a no win situation. Head office never communicates at store level and head of Fresh Street is a mager snob who belittles people and thinks she's better than everyone below her.

In all honesty if you’d like to work here… don’t. Practically all of your colleagues and the managers are lazy, in the departments no one likes to clean up after themselves and the managers typically get rid of the good people and let the awful ones stay and the managers usually expect you and your colleagues to train/teach the newbies everything. The pay isn’t worth it you get a whole $1 raise every year you’re there (not sure about managers though.) Benefits are practically nothing, you get no where working here I mean it’s a grocery store. The way I feel about working here is that there’s no respect half the time between me and my colleagues. All I have to say to anyone who is willing to stay… good luck with the gong show.

Fresh St Market Kamloops has been my employer since the store opened last year.
There have been many hurdles in opening a new business in the midst of a pandemic and during a nationwide labour shortage.
Having said that, the amazing core people who have worked hard to build a fun, caring, and positive work environment have made it all possible.
Growing pains are a natural part of starting a new business. Are there things that can be improved on? Of course, always. 
But overall, the team members who have chosen to show up, work hard, and work toward creating a collaborative and fun workplace have made it a great place to come to work.

My shift usually starts at 10 on weekends. Once I arrive, I check the dairy department, and fill in milk, butter, eggs, etc.
I always check the expired date to make sure we're not selling stale products. Sometimes, while working, customers ask questions about where product might be or if we carry it and if we do, we show them the right way. It's a pretty active job which is my favourite part. I love helping out people and I always want to spend time standing up and being active. The staff are very friendly and nice. The only difficult part is that sometimes I don't pay attention to the right method of picking up heavy things, is sometimes i hurt my back, but other than that, it's a lovely place to work.

I worked in two different locations for Fresh St. First in Fleetwood and then at Panorama. At both locations the people you work with and the management are the best. My first manger is still trying to get me to come back, that just shows how much they love their people. 

As a cashier you have to know codes for all the fruits and vegetable and baked goods but you learn these fairly fast because a lot of people get the same things every time. All the employees I ever worked with were so nice and so helpful even if they aren't even in your department. 

They make sure you get proper training, there's opportunity for growth, good salary, fun workplace overall.

I DON'T RECOMMEND IT. I've had a meeting alongside my peers and the higher ups from Fresh St. Market during its renovation in a relatively new location. As new supervisors/managers were hired, the management was worse in terms of the work environment. Worked there as a cashier and you were HEAVILY expected to go above and beyond for the customers while working a minimum wage. Management would frequently cut/change everyone's hours (at least at my department) and micromanaging on the clock. Needless to say, the customers were just as bad and condescending to every worker.
