I started working weekends then got summer contracts, now I get offered FT often but I keep rejecting them. Most FT people are leaving or have left; you will see many jobs post for sales rep positions which btw is not a true sales job. The company cut all commissions and now the long days are no longer worth it. Reps were able to push and work long hours because of commissions and make 60-90K. Now you'll make 40-45k max yet you will still be expected to hit targets!!!. So, if you enjoy waking up at 4am to get to grocery stores at 5 am and spending 7-15 hours a day for 40-45k this is a company for you. The company already brought out new products recently but soon they will bring 10+ new brands into the market which means you will be expected to sell more and stock more space than before but your pay will be the same. You don't get a raise in this position. People who have been here for 10+ years make the same now as someone who walked in yesterday and it WILL stay like that no matter what your told. Management lives on another planet. I once worked from 5:30am-8PM during a busy day that I knew was going to be busy so I asked for support; No help was sent; in fact, no one even knew I went home at 8pm. I don’t blame people at my local branch such as my mangers but instead just the company itself. I can now tell all the company cares about now is profit for shareholders and that’s it. Employees have become disposable. The company sends out orders to people at the top of the chain and than each manger forwards those orders to the person below him and eventually it lands at your feet LOL  
One thing you must know when you get hired. The reason your direct managers will push you a lot to sell (they will never tell you this) is because they get bonuses on your sales. So, you will manage an account worth 500k-1M spend long hours at stores ordering and stocking building displays doing planograms for store which will include other companies’ product yes you will rearrange an entire aisle including other companies’ product just because someone in the chain agreed to do it when they were making an agreement. Remember when I said order get forwarded down from manager to manger. This is one of those things someone at the top agreed and you at the bottom do the work but they get the benefits. Your CDM and Your DSL get bonuses on all the reps sales but not the reps. Everyone is looking for another job including myself. The good and fair days are over at frito-lays. If your in college/uni do it as a summer job and don't fall for the stories they will try to sell you to make you stay. One of my fav is when all the big managers come to your first meetings and will tell you how they started where you are etc etc the company was different when they started where you are just remember that. Complete your school and than ask to be placed in a department with your study or leave find a better company.  I wrote this in one take so sorry about any mistakes LOL

Frito lay Canada is a large food processing and manufacturer plant in Ontario. Its part of the global Pepsico Foods corporation. It has thousands of workers globally but operating as one big family. I have worked at this facility for about ten years and have exponentially benefited working here in many ways. Briefly I worked 8-hour shifts but soon found it convenient to work 12 hour shifts, 3- 36 hour shifts making a total of 36 hours but with additional benefits. Working weekend shifts has enabled me to go back to school where I am pursuing an undergraduate honors degree in Sociology with minors in Legal Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. Work culture at Frito Lay is typically one of good work ethics, efficiency, respect, teamwork and camaraderie. The company has boasts very efficient leadership roles played by well educated and experienced resources at all its production levels. A culture of respect prevails between stuff and management. The most enjoyable part of the job is taking personal responsibility for any part of assignments given on shift basis and seeing that job completed satisfactorily is most pleasurable. There is an array of help and assistance, including various training when the work becomes challenging. Of course as you may find at every workplace there are good and bad days. Some of my worst days have been when some form of accidents have happened at my work station. Once I had a back injury, a chemical accident involving eyes. Otherwise what I have learned working for this company is making work look like fun and a part of your everyday life. I have been able to work and go to school at the same time and this has been very fulfilling for me.

Despite the kindness of some of the management, I cannot recommend this job due to a complete lack of structure and support. Employees are pushed to their limits, both physically and mentally, and no real solutions are ever offered when problems are raised.

There is zero protection if you get injured or need time off work. The job is extremely demanding — it’s not uncommon to fall ill from exhaustion, catch the flu from working dehydrated all day, or develop tendinitis due to overwork. You barely get time to eat, and you’re expected to start all over again the next morning like nothing happened.

Only 5 sick days per year, and after nearly 2 years, it took me fighting through HR just to get one week of vacation. I was even told I wasn’t eligible at first — which wasn’t true.

Pay is unclear and difficult to track, and we’re given no transparent information about the benefits or company programs we’re supposedly entitled to. Most days, you come home completely drained, physically and mentally.

The hours are long and excessive. The commission-based pay structure makes it easy for the company to abuse its employees — the weekend merchandising support is awful, and while invoices and workloads increase, our commission percentage decreases. The more you work and the better you perform, the more you’re penalized — because this job demands everything and gives back very little.

If you care about your health, work-life balance, and being treated fairly — I highly suggest you look elsewhere.

All the running around and chaos of a physical job, combined with all the red tape and corporate nonsense of an office job. I was on salary, so got to go home as soon as the work was done, which was nice on the days with fewer deliveries or when I was assisting. Unfortunately, it was more often the case that I was working longer than eight hours, sometimes up to eleven.

Management sits in their offices and makes decisions with no understanding of what's happening in stores or what it's like for staff, and communication with store staff was often lacking, causing many situations in which both Frito Lay management and store management were mad at me over things I had no control over and that wouldn't have been a problem if things were just managed and communicated better. And then I was the one who had to do my best to put out all the fires (bear in mind I was just hired for the summer, meaning that by the end of my contract I had less then four months of experience, and was expected to handle these things with little to no help in most cases).

Do not work here if you are a perfectionist or care a lot about getting things done just so. If you care too much this job will have you banging your head against the wall on a regular basis. The most enjoyable part of my day was driving from store to store, and this is driving in the Lower Mainland that we're talking about.

FritoLay/ PepsiCo was a good job to help me save for school. After your interview, they assign your position and shift when attending orientation. Unfortunately, you do not have much say in the matter. I was assigned to work in DRP, where my experience was adequate. Workplace culture wasn't fantastic; there was quite a bit of drama, however this is to be expected at most jobs.

While work is strenuous, there is much worse out there. Pay is good for what it is. Other departments were paid better for what I would consider easier work from my time spent on overtime shifts there. I worked very hard despite knowing I would not be staying and unfortunately was hardly recognized by management due to a disconnect between managers and employees. Regardless, my interactions with management were pleasant when they occurred. 

Perks include frequent free chips in the lunchroom to enjoy on break, free lunches for breaking department records (and sometimes on holidays), and the ability to move around within the warehouse after a year. Overtime is plentiful at times, usually around the holidays. Promotions are available to those who give 100% every single day and have a good relationship with supervisors/ management. 

Frito Lay when I started was a wonderful place to work. The work was hard but always fair and being salary seemed to balance itself nicely as somedays you would work late and others you would get home early depending on what the time of the year it was or what sales and promotions were going on. 

Then however things changed. The company outsourced all its factory packaging and shipping out of town and closed the distribution centre that was giving jobs to many. All the warehouse staff were forced to either relocate or vacate their positions (they did get some severance).

This then changed how all the other frontline employees went to market as the drivers now had to load and unload their own trucks at the beginning and end of each day. This was just a ripple that ended up as uncomfortable changes for many. Being told that these were going to be growing pains for a little while was unsettlingly acceptable but after two years of working close to 60 hours a week and getting paid for 40 with little regard to their employees personal lives ended up as an easy decision to leave for greener pastures.

To be fair I cannot now say that I know what things are currently like there as I have not been working there for some time. Maybe they have grown out of those pains.

Terrible company to work for. They lie about what the job really is. They hire you for a certain location then sends you across the province without any notice. They expect us to use your own car and not reimburse milage. They say they do but frequently it’s not on payment. Constant delays that set your day back and you get no overtime pay. Company is too cheap to pay their employees a fair wage and make huge cuts towards them. Management only sees pay increases while the people under get pay cuts. They say everything is done by seniority but it’s not. It’s just someone putting names onto the schedule or onto routes without paying attention to seniority. I was frequently disrespected by management and was told “I don’t care” by management when I asked them why they aren’t going by seniority. I was also told “that’s not my problem” by management when I asked if they could stop sending me 3 plus hours away for work with our getting any sort of mileage compensation. I have never felt more disrespected or have ever been treated so poor by an employer. I would stay away from this company unless you want to experience the same sort of stuff I had to deal with. 

your work week was friday to tuesday every week. there was little room for advancement. even if you took a weeks holidays since the week ran sunday to saturday. you had to book two weeks straight to receive a weekend off. more often than not coworkers were never willing to take the busiest days but expected you to work whenever they wanted a day covered.
the hardest part of the job was trying to grow the business while following strict rules about what we could and could not do. it was very difficult to find new sales opportunities, and when you did they were denied because they didn't feel it was incremental enough. The other hard part was trying to juggle a family while being low man on the totem pole more often than not co-workers wouldn't cover your days you needed off. but expected you to cover theirs.there was no benefit to covering another employee.

the most enjoyable part of the job was looking at your end of week numbers and beating everyone else despite the fact the oddds were against you almost every single time

Twenty year employee. Quit and don’t regret it for one second. 
Only regret was staying for twenty years. 
Take this as a warning, do not work for this Ottawa branch. Read the reviews that come from this Ottawa based DC. Terrible management and absolutely no compassion for its sales people. The more you sell the more they will expect of you, exhausting pace to keep beating your previous years’ numbers. 
You will hate all holidays and long weekends. 
As a sales Rep. your route and salary will get cut the higher your grow your sales to help “grow” the business. Commissions keep getting slashed as sales reps. were “over paid” in Canada as sold to us by upper management. 
There are many other companies to consider that will give you the same salary and benefits Pepsico foods will offer. 
Company overall is ok to work for, it’s the revolving door of entry level, unqualified managers that keep getting promoted up the corporate ladder trying to prove themselves with no real understanding of sales or work life balance. They come in young and kidless with no understanding of family or basic compassion. 
Please don’t make the mistake I made of working for this Ottawa/ East Zone. 


Great for students or on the side part time work. Frequently had different managers and this was annoying because they always tried to come in and change things that did not need to be changed. Pay is decent, no benefits for part time work. I ended up working full time hours in busy seasons with lower wages and no benefits quite a bit which I find unfair. Though it is easy mindless work, you get to work alone and mostly don’t need to deal with your managers in person. The clients which are store managers can be annoying and don’t understand the scope of your job as a part timer. You don’t really know what’s going on for the individual store as you are only there once in a while and are constantly getting sent to new areas. You also don’t have a set schedule, you could be working 4 hours or 8. They expect you to be available for the full 8 hours at least but only pay you for what you actually end up working. However this sucks because you can’t really plan ahead with this job very well or make commitments without possibly having to cancel because your order is late.
