This is not a welcoming, encouraging environment to work in.  The job culture they speak of, is non-existent.  Additionally lacking are appropriate training (or literally any training for that matter) and support. You are always left feeling disposable no matter how far beyond the scope of your responsibilities, you go. There is no structure, management and HR is dysfunctional, there is continual duress from coworkers, and you never have any real trajectory or growth opportunities in your place at the firm. 


GR was wonderful place to work at. Most people were extremely friendly regardless of their position within the firm. Workplace camaraderie was present, and support was always provided when needed. From the partners to support staff, everyone was respectful. The firm has an overall positive work environment. 

Everything at this firm is catered around what the partners want, it doesn’t matter if it’s reasonable or not. If you go above and beyond, that becomes the expectation. They don’t care about the employee at all. All concerns expressed fall on deaf ears. Absolutely no job culture to speak of.

Daily dealings with drafts, amendments and finalization of invoices can be very easy or complicated.
Learned how to do conflict searches for back up
Management was not the easiest to work with.
Overall the firm was good, the department was very tense.
Dealing with ones that seemed to think they were above everyone else.
There were perks for different times of year

Gardiner Roberts LLP is an amazing place to work because everyone is kind and welcoming and the area is comfortable. The management is understanding and appreciative of everyone and co-workers are nice. There's no difficult part of the job and the most enjoyable part of the job was being a part of a lawyer-based environment.

Terrible experience at this place. The most toxic work environment I've ever seen. Extremely long hours, overtime was cut during covid but they expect the same amount of work to be done. Some of the partners are good people but some are very nasty.

Lack of management support.  Interesting work environment with respect to dealing with customers and colleagues; however management provided little support for employee success

Gardiner Roberts has one of the best cultures of any law firm I have ever come across. The people are friendly and the partners all seem to be a tight knit group that enjoy working together. I feel this contributes to the overall positive work environment.

I learned a lot from the commercial real estate group - they are a good group of people and I would recommend the firm to any young lawyer who wants to work on Bay St without wanting to work 2000+ hours per year.

Great firm that is progressively getting better. Taking time but they are going in the right direction which can be hard for well established law firms in Canada.
